After Luo Sheng’s name was called out, Xiao Yin’s booth became even more packed with people. But Luo Sheng was still busy talking with Mu Xiaoke, completely unaware of the commotion she had caused.
“Lady, please agree to sell it to me!”
Xiao Yin nudged Mu Xiaoke’s sleeve, giving him a look.
Mu Xiaoke understood what she meant — if he could sell it, he should! Finally, Mu Xiaoke nodded.
Luo Sheng immediately pulled out her phone to scan the payment code, as if afraid Mu Xiaoke might change his mind.
“Oh, by the way, do you have a Weibo account? Let’s follow each other!” Luo Sheng said, opening Weibo and waiting for Mu Xiaoke to tell her his ID.
But Mu Xiaoke was stumped. He didn’t have a Weibo account!
“You don’t have a Weibo?!”
“Then how am I supposed to find you? What if you make something new and I miss it?”
Luo Sheng looked genuinely disappointed, as though she wanted to help him set up a Weibo account right then and there.
“I have an account on X Station. I’ll keep updating my work there. If you’d like, you can follow my account — it’s ‘Ke Yan.’” Mu Xiaoke typed this out, and both Luo Sheng and the crowd of onlookers quickly followed his almost-empty, LV1 account!
After buying the hairpin, Luo Sheng left in high spirits, and gradually, the crowd dispersed. A few remaining girls ended up buying the other hairpins Mu Xiaoke had brought.
Mu Xiaoke hadn’t expected that within just an hour at the con, his relatively expensive hairpins would all sell out!
Not long after, Xiao Yin entrusted her booth to a friend and took Mu Xiaoke and Luo Jiaming on a walk around the con, introducing them to some of the basics of otaku culture. She explained that “ladies” could also be guys, that Xiao Yin herself was a well-known fanfiction writer, and that the girls in Hanfu earlier were all from her own fan group.
Talking about Luo Sheng, who had just bought the agate hairpin, Xiao Yin became visibly excited. “Luo Sheng is super famous! Practically everyone in the traditional style scene knows her. Selling her that hairpin, even if it’s not profitable, is totally worth it! Trust me, she’ll post about it on Weibo, and that’ll bring you hundreds or even thousands of new followers!”
“Is she really that influential?” Luo Jiaming gasped, amazed. Hundreds or thousands of followers may not be a huge number, but if even a fraction became regular customers for Mu Xiaoke, his business would be booming!
“Would I lie to you guys? Her reach is huge. In the past half year, pretty much every local game company has asked her to sing theme songs, and she’s a top creator in the scene. Xiaoke, I told you you’d be a hit!”
Mu Xiaoke quickly waved his hand, “It’s all thanks to you! If you hadn’t helped me, I wouldn’t have met that singer. I really owe you!”
“Heh heh, no need for thanks. Honestly, I should be thanking you. Look at this hairpin! It’s so beautiful that as soon as I showed up, all my friends were asking where to get one. Even my merch sales went up!” Xiao Yin wore a playful grin. Seeing that Mu Xiaoke still looked a bit embarrassed, she winked slyly, “Just make my next hairpin half-price, deal?”
“Haha, Xiao Yin, you’re something else,” Luo Jiaming teased, but Mu Xiaoke nodded right away. Half-price? He’d be happy to make one for her for free.
Before they left, Xiao Yin and Luo Jiaming helped Mu Xiaoke set up a Weibo account and had him update his X Station profile to link his new Weibo.
As soon as he got home, Mu Xiaoke’s first task was to upload the photos he’d taken of his work to both Weibo and X Station. And to his surprise, not long after he posted the picture of the agate hairpin, it was reposted. By none other than Luo Sheng.
Luo Sheng’s caption read: “Thanks to the creator for this beautiful work of art. ‘Xian Yun Ye He’ is just too gorgeous!”
Luo Sheng’s fans were quick to respond, with likes, comments, and shares flooding in.
For the first time, Mu Xiaoke experienced the joy of receiving so much praise. He was overwhelmed with excitement; his heart was bursting with happiness and a sense of achievement. Unable to hold it in, he immediately ran over to knock on Chu Han’s door.
When Chu Han opened the door, he was greeted by Mu Xiaoke’s bright, smiling eyes. He couldn’t help but smile too. “What’s got you so happy?”
Mu Xiaoke held up his phone to show him. On the screen was a post with hundreds of comments, all about the hairpin.
Chu Han raised an eyebrow, “Did you post your video?”
Mu Xiaoke shook his head, typing quickly, “I went to the con today! All the hairpins you saw sold out, and a really famous singer bought one and even promoted it for me!”
Chu Han immediately understood, “So, you’re feeling extra happy?”
Mu Xiaoke nodded enthusiastically, his smile uncontainable. “So many people liked my work. I’ve never been praised like this before — I’m so happy! Teacher, I’m just so happy!”
He typed the word “happy” twice, yet even that didn’t feel enough to express his emotions. In his last life, even though he could speak, no one ever recognized his abilities. Even though he had once been admitted to the same school as Rong Yanzhe, even though he’d won scholarships, in the eyes of those around him, he was a burden, a waste of space. They all said that one Mu Kai was enough for the Mu family, and that he was just a drag, someone who might bring ruin to the family one day.
Especially after marrying Rong Yanzhe, he lost his freedom, missed out on regular classes for so long that he was eventually expelled, and truly became a failure. Rong Yanzhe never comforted him, only mocked and belittled him, constantly reminding him how he didn’t measure up to Mu Kai.
But now, he had proof that he wasn’t useless. His work was appreciated by many, and he could make a name for himself. He wasn’t the Mu family’s burden; he would have his own career, his own life!
Right now, he wanted to share all of these feelings with Chu Han. He felt that Chu Han would understand him and encourage him!
“Your hairpins were beautiful to begin with.” Chu Han placed a hand on Mu Xiaoke’s head.
Mu Xiaoke beamed, “Thank you, Teacher!”
“I’m still waiting for your video. Remember, you promised I’d be your first viewer.”
Mu Xiaoke nodded enthusiastically.
A few days later, Mu Xiaoke uploaded his edited video.
The first person to repost and like the video was a high-level account with over a million fans. Interestingly, this account wasn’t even the creator of the video, but soon, a few other influencers with millions of followers also joined in.
“I heard there’s an amazing new creator, and we’re here to throw confetti with the mighty Han!”
“Go, Little Cutie!”
“The hairpins are stunning, and those hands are adorable!”
“Master creator, a divine artist!”
