Chapter 20: Wei Bao Visits Baochuan

In the room, Wang Baochuan was having her meal.  In front of her were dishes of Jade Stream Soup, Crab Meat Balls, Steamed Mandarin Fish… and a dish of tender bamboo shoots stewed in pork bone and chicken broth.

Wang Baochuan looked at the tempting bamboo shoots, picked up her silver chopsticks and took a small bite.  The fragrance of the bamboo shoots and the richness of the bone broth complemented each other perfectly.  Just one bite left a lingering taste on her lips and teeth.

“Miss, General Wei Bao said he has important matters to discuss with you.” Qingqing entered the room to report.

Wang Baochuan didn’t look up, “Tell him that men and women should not be together, I’m an unmarried girl, how can I just go out and meet a man?”

“I told him.” Qingqing was embarrassed, “But General Wei Bao refused to leave, he said that if you don’t see him today, he will stay outside your courtyard.”

So stubborn?  Wang Baochuan was intrigued.  It seemed that Wei Bao was coming to confront her.

She went out of the courtyard and saw Wei Bao waiting there from afar.  He was wearing an indigo-blue robe with a jade pendant at his waist, clearly the attire of a wealthy young man, but he didn’t look very clean.

Wang Baochuan’s mind flashed with the image of Bai Yu, it seemed that even in coarse linen clothes, he had a tall and handsome posture.

“Baochuan, as soon as I got back, I heard that you went to the Wei mansion to look for me?” He leaned closer, looking down at Wang Baochuan.

Wang Baochuan felt uncomfortable all over, she took a step back, “You heard wrong, I was visiting my second sister.”

“Don’t lie to me, when did you and your second sister become so close?” He smiled, his excitement was beyond words.

“Baochuan, I’m so happy, you actually took the initiative to see me.”

“Are you finished?” Wang Baochuan asked coldly.

Wei Bao reached out to grab her arm, but she dodged quickly.

“Master Wei! It’s already inappropriate for us to meet alone, I hope you will show some respect.” She was displeased.

Wei Bao sneered, his face immediately changed.

“You didn’t see me, but you helped Xue Qi send a letter, and you even told her to go to the Ministry of Justice to file a complaint?”

Wang Baochuan looked at him in confusion when she heard him say this, “I just felt sorry for Miss Xue when I saw her crying, so I kindly reminded her.  What’s wrong?  Master Wei, do you think what I did was inappropriate?”

Wei Bao was taken aback, he was fuming.

“Speaking of which, you’re my second brother-in-law’s younger brother, and that girl is in your courtyard, so I was just being kind.  If you think what I did was inappropriate, then I’ll stay away from your Wei family in the future.”

Wei Bao took a deep breath.  He hadn’t realized before that Wang Baochuan was so quick-witted.

He was speechless.  He couldn’t just say that Wang Baochuan’s actions would cause him trouble, after all, he had secretly killed Xue Ren.

Now that Xue Pinggui’s complaint had been submitted to the Ministry of Justice, if he killed him now, wouldn’t it be a confession?

But the old stubborn man at the Ministry of Justice was very upright, once any case reached his hands, he would investigate it thoroughly before letting it go.

Wei Bao was worried.

“That’s not what I meant, it’s just that the Minister of Justice is old, why bother him with such a small case?”

“Nonsense!” Wang Baochuan rolled her eyes at him and turned to go back to her room.

“Baochuan!”

Wei Bao quickly followed, “There are many rumors in the capital lately, I hope you don’t take them to heart.”

“Okay.” Wang Baochuan nodded.

“Those people don’t know anything! They just spread rumors and ruin people’s reputations, I would never be as ignorant as them.”

Wei Bao patted his chest and assured her.

Wang Baochuan was moved to tears, she said slyly, “Second Brother Wei, you’ve always been kind to me.”

“Of course.” Wei Bao saw that her tone had softened, and his heart melted.

“Then can you send someone to help me find my Bai Lang?  I miss him so much.”

She held her handkerchief and pretended to be heartbroken, her eyes narrowed, her thoughts racing.

Wei Bao almost choked on his own saliva, he trembled, “You! Wang Baochuan, are you shameless?”
