Two hours later.
“Huiyuan, keep an eye on them. I’ll go grab two Strengthening Pills.”
Looking at the two grandchildren who had already fallen asleep, Qiao Jiuru gently instructed Su Huiyuan before lying down on the empty bed.
The next moment, she vanished.
Before long, she reappeared on the bed.
It was so fast that Su Huiyuan barely had time to stare at the door before he exhaled in relief.
“I’ll take it first. If something happens, call the doctor.”
Qiao Jiuru sat up on the bed, opened her palm, revealing two black, soybean-sized pills, and tossed one into her mouth as she explained to her husband.
Her movements were so swift that Su Huiyuan couldn’t stop her before the pill was already swallowed.
Su Huiyuan anxiously observed his wife’s expression, ready to rush out and call for a doctor at any moment.
A while after she swallowed the pill, Qiao Jiuru felt a slight warmth start in her stomach.
Soon, the warmth spread throughout her body, and the discomfort she had been feeling disappeared as the warmth flowed through her limbs.
“How do you feel? Is anything uncomfortable?”
Su Huiyuan asked after waiting for a long time, seeing no immediate response from his wife.
He couldn’t discern any changes in her expression, so he asked anxiously.
“Huiyuan, I feel great, really great. All the fatigue and exhaustion are gone. My dizziness, headaches, and numbness in my limbs are also gone. It’s as if my body has returned to how it was ten years ago.”
Qiao Jiuru carefully observed the changes in her body while reassuring him that he need not worry.
She felt much more energetic and alert than before.
Thankfully, the pills were safe.
Su Huiyuan let out a quiet sigh of relief, then felt joy and excitement flood over him.
If this pill could improve their health and restore their bodies, they wouldn’t have to worry about their physical state when they are sent to the countryside.
“You should take one too.”
Qiao Jiuru had brought two pills, one for her and one for him, and urged Su Huiyuan to take his.
Su Huiyuan obediently swallowed the pill she gave him without hesitation. Not long after, he felt the same significant changes in his body, just as his wife had described.
This was definitely a good thing.
“We’ll try it again in a couple of days.”
“Okay.”
“Once we’ve taken it again, we’ll let them have some.”
“I agree. Huazhu will have her holiday in two days. We need to make plans for her and Xiaofeng.”
“I’ve thought about where to send Xiaofeng. Tomorrow, I’ll ask Brother Zhang Hong to arrange for Xiaofeng to join the team. Once he’s in the team, no one will dare to touch him, and he’ll be much safer there.”
“The team is a good place. Xiaofeng is studying medicine, and there, he can continue his uncle’s legacy and also learn practical skills.”
“My brother has many connections there, and they’ll be able to protect him.”
“And what about Huazhu? Should we send her there too?”
“If Xiaofeng goes, Huazhu can’t go. I had planned to ask Brother Lu to arrange for her to work in a mechanical factory elsewhere, but I’m worried she’s too young and might get deceived or reported. If that happens, we won’t be able to reach her in time. It might be better to send her to the countryside as an educated youth.”
“To where?”
“To Baigou Village in Mengtou Township, Tongshi County, Jisheng Province.”
“Do we have connections there?”
“We do. Several villages there have benefited from our Qiao family. In my dream, after all of you left, I was the only one left. For decades, people from there came to care for me, bringing me local specialties and food every year. They didn’t know our situation until later, and they said that if they had known earlier, they would have tried to get us sent there.”
Then, Qiao Jiuru quietly told Su Huiyuan about her life in those decades.
She only briefly mentioned her experiences before and after being sent away, but she didn’t talk much about the specifics of her solitary life.
Su Huiyuan listened carefully and immediately understood. After some thought, he began to make plans.
“Tomorrow, let’s have Brother Zhang take care of Xiaofeng’s matter. We’ll make sure he doesn’t return. After he’s safely in the team, we’ll send his belongings to him.”
“By the way, Aru, send him some of the pills too.”
Qiao Jiuru naturally agreed.
If there weren’t so many urgent matters, with only six days left before they were sent away, she would have gone to find their youngest son or have him return.
But there were so many things to do that there might not be enough time.
“We also need to send a letter to the village in Baigou. The team leader there is called Ruan Dashan. He’s a bit older than us.”
“Or, Ah Ru, should we send Huazhu off first? We can have her sign up tomorrow. While no one has taken action yet, we might as well act quickly.”
Su Huiyuan was not a bookworm and was well-versed in handling social situations.
Although he hadn’t gone through major upheavals, he was still experienced, and he thought it would be better to take action first.
“Tomorrow isn’t good. If we handle Xiaofeng’s matter tomorrow and then deal with Huazhu’s, it will attract too much attention. Plus, we haven’t discussed sending Huazhu to the countryside as an educated youth. We should first ask her opinion and thoughts. If she doesn’t want to go, we’ll use connections and money to send her far away to work in a factory.”
“Our Huazhu is a good child. I’m sure she won’t want to leave us.”
“I know. Now that we have more confidence, I’d feel safer if she stayed close to me.”
“Alright, Ah Ru, don’t worry. With all the preparations we’ve made, our family will be fine. It won’t be like in your dream.”
