Two days later.
A huge package was brought back by Bai Lianshan.
Fortunately, he was taking the cattle cart to the commune; otherwise, with the grain seeds included, it would have been really hard to haul it all back.
Bai Lianshan also knew that if the members of the commune saw such a large package, it would surely spark a lot of gossip. So, at first, he delivered Qiao Jiuru’s package to Uncle Jiu’s house.
That way, Qiao Jiuru and her family could pick it up from Uncle Jiu’s place—convenient and less likely to attract attention.
When Uncle Jiu saw the huge package, he was also quite surprised, not knowing what big thing was inside.
However, no matter what was inside, neither Bai Lianshan nor Uncle Jiu felt envious. After all, they both had substantial family backgrounds unknown to outsiders. They were just curious, not covetous.
Of course, they had no ill intentions. If there really were valuable things inside, the package might have already been opened by others on the way here. Anyone not stupid wouldn’t put precious items in such a package.
“Uncle, I’ll put the grain seeds back in the warehouse first. The seeds need to be distributed in the next two days.”
Bai Lianshan was busy with many tasks and was always rushing back and forth, also needing to work in the fields. Apart from eating and sleeping, most of his time was spent in the fields.
Uncle Jiu waved his hand, indicating he understood.
He had been busy these past two days preparing the cough medicine, fever reducer, and expectorant from Qiao Jiuru’s prescriptions in his own pharmacy, not going out to the fields.
With the change of seasons from spring to summer, everything was growing, and many people were actually getting sick.
These three medicines were the most prescribed and the most used.
As Qiao Jiuru said, if these three medicines worked well, they would become the big weapons for Baigou Village’s future prosperity.
“Xiao Ru, Xiao Ru, your package has arrived.”
Qiao Jiuru, holding Da Bao and Xiao Bao’s hands, returned home to cook about ten minutes earlier than usual and was called over when passing Uncle Jiu’s house.
What?!
A package!
Her package had finally arrived!!!
Qiao Jiuru looked at the big package, about the same size as when she sent it. Hopefully, no one had stolen or tampered with her things inside!
“Wow, so big.”
“Grandma, bag big,”
Da Bao and Xiao Bao opened their mouths wide, looking at the package much taller than themselves, chatting with Qiao Jiuru in their baby voices.
“Yes, inside are your little clothes, quilts, clothes for grandpa, grandma, mom and dad, mosquito nets, pillows,”
Qiao Jiuru patiently explained to the two little ones, and of course, there was some money and tickets hidden inside, along with a pound each of cured meat and dried fish, though not much.
So that’s what’s inside! No wonder it’s so big.
When Bai Lianshan carried it over, it felt like about thirty jin (fifteen kilograms).
“Uncle Jiu, thank you so much. We’ll go back and cook now.”
After thanking Uncle Jiu, Qiao Jiuru let the two little ones walk ahead while she carried the package behind them.
Seeing she could carry it by herself, Uncle Jiu didn’t offer to escort them back.
Back at their own home, Qiao Jiuru first placed the package inside, then went to cook with Da Bao and Xiao Bao.
Since they had bought some wooden and bamboo tools from the production team over the past couple of days, cooking had become much more convenient.
They steamed rice and buns, stir-fried cabbage with cured meat, steamed egg custard, stir-fried shredded potatoes, and finished with a pot of egg soup.
“Mom, is this our package?!”
After Su Ze and Zhou Wanwan finished work and washed up, the first thing they saw upon entering was the big package on the floor, and they couldn’t help but exclaim.
They knew Qiao Jiuru had asked someone to send a package, but they had never seen it and didn’t realize it would be so big.
“Yes, inside are our old quilts, clothes, mosquito nets, pillows, and a pack of cured meat and dried fish. Tonight, we’ll eat the cured meat.”
While carrying two bowls of dishes inside, Qiao Jiuru told them. Behind her, Su Huaiyuan followed, carrying a bowl of egg soup.
Su Ze and Zhou Wanwan were delighted.
They had been eating eggs these past few days, and tonight’s meal was a definite improvement.
Mom and Dad are so capable.
Since coming here, they not only had enough to eat every meal, but they mostly ate refined grains.
The two sons’ food here was only slightly worse than in the capital city; otherwise, there was little difference.
Though working in the fields was tiring, it wasn’t unbearable.
Su Ze and Zhou Wanwan gradually got used to life here.
As long as no one bothered them, sometimes it didn’t feel so bad.
Most of the cured meat ended up in Su Ze and Zhou Wanwan’s stomachs.
Su Huaiyuan and Qiao Jiuru declined it, saying the cured meat was too tough to chew, so they only ate the egg custard.
This moved Su Ze and Zhou Wanwan deeply, and they decided they needed to work harder in the fields so their parents could have less hard work.
Qiao Jiuru and Su Huaiyuan didn’t want to eat the cured meat because later they planned to enter the space to have a feast.
Eating too much now would spoil their appetite for the fish balls, shrimp and crab, and chicken soup, which would be a big loss!
Unfortunately, they dared not take these out to share with their son and daughter-in-law, since the origin of those things couldn’t be explained.
So they could only sneak away with their two grandsons to secretly enjoy the special food by themselves.
