Chapter 20: Hello, Tang Qu
“Xiao Qu.” Tang Qu originally wanted to see who the person standing next to the camera was, but the person never took off their mask. Moreover, Zhang Yong came over to call him, so Tang Qu had no choice but to leave first.
As Tang Qu left, the man who had been listening to Director Chen and Yu Ting talking looked up in the direction Tang Qu was heading.
Yu Ting noticed the man’s gaze and pouted, “Uncle, I asked you to come here to guide me, why are you looking at someone else? I’m not happy!”
Director Chen immediately put down his walkie-talkie, “Little Ting, where did you learn this green tea tone from?”
Yu Ting straightened his sleeves, “Sorry, self-taught.”
Chen Ke shook his head, “You’re just too spoiled by the family.”
“Hmph, I have my uncle’s love, you can just be jealous.”
It wasn’t until Tang Qu left that the man finally retracted his gaze. He looked at Yu Ting, “Stop teasing Director Chen.”
Yu Ting stuck out his tongue, “Got it.”
Director Chen nodded beside them, deeply agreeing.
However, the man’s next words almost made Director Chen spit blood, as he added, “People of a certain age don’t understand the logic of the young.”
Director Chen was straightforward, “Guan Yan, explain yourself! What do you mean by ‘a certain age’? I just turned 30 this year, the prime of a man’s life!”
Guan Yan glanced at Director Chen, “A fading flower?”
Director Chen: “…”
Yu Ting: “…” When it comes to sharp tongues, it’s still his uncle.
“Guan Yan, get out of my set right now!”
“No.” The thin lips opened and closed to utter two words, and then he sat down in Director Chen’s seat, “Bring up the footage from just now.”
Director Chen was furious but still played the replay.
Yu Ting watched from the side, laughing. His uncle and Director Chen were five years apart, and his uncle had never acted in Director Chen’s films, but for some reason, the two got along extremely well, always teasing each other whenever they met.
Don’t doubt it, their relationship is genuinely good, because his uncle usually wouldn’t even open his mouth to speak to ordinary people, let alone mock them.
As Director Chen showed Guan Yan the footage, he was particularly proud, “I tell you, Guan Yan, you’re in for a treat. This is the scene I’m most satisfied with recently.”
Yu Ting was also curious and leaned in closer.
The first to appear in the footage was him. Yu Ting felt a bit shy at first, after all, having his uncle watch his acting made him somewhat embarrassed. But seeing Guan Yan’s unchanged expression, he regained his composure. His uncle had seen so many people’s performances, he probably wouldn’t be impressed by anyone, so there was no need to be nervous.
Then Tang Qu appeared. The moment Tang Qu entered the scene, he instantly captured everyone’s attention. The footage hadn’t been edited yet, but Tang Qu in the frame had the ability to focus everyone’s attention on him, making everyone else in the scene just background.
Yu Ting watched, completely absorbed, his entire focus on Tang Qu, until the footage ended.
After returning to normal, Yu Ting felt as if he had just woken up from a dream. He remembered that the script mentioned that wherever the Pure Profound Venerable went, he would inevitably become the center of attention. He had assumed this effect would be achieved through post-production editing, but Tang Qu had managed to do it purely through his own abilities. This wasn’t just about looks; it required skill, an understanding of camera angles, and confidence in one’s acting. Such talent was rare in the entertainment industry, and the only person he had seen with such ability was his Uncle, who was sitting beside him.
Director Chen looked at Guan Yan with pride. “What do you think? Impressive, right? Even though we’ve only shot a little, I have a feeling this is going to be another milestone for me.”
Guan Yan crossed his legs and glanced at Chen Ke indifferently. “Not bad.”
Chen Ke’s eyes widened in surprise. “Wait, did I just hear the Movie Emperor Guan say ‘not bad’? Yu Ting, did you hear that? Guan Yan actually complimented me!”
Yu Ting, who was being shaken by Chen Ke, felt dizzy. “Yes, yes, I heard it!”
However, Movie Emperor Guan stood up from his chair and said, “I was talking about the actor.” With that, Guan Yan left.
“Damn it, Guan Yan! You really can’t say anything nice, can you? My directing isn’t even worth a single compliment from you?”
Yu Ting glanced at the camera. The final shot had captured his expression, but he was certain that his Uncle’s comment about the actor being “not bad” wasn’t directed at him.
Seeing Guan Yan walking away, Yu Ting quickly left Director Chen and followed him.
“Uncle, wait for me!”
Guan Yan paused his steps. “What is it?”
Yu Ting scratched the back of his head. “Do you want to rest for a bit? Yesterday, I heard Brother Jiang say you were filming all night and then caught a flight back this morning.”
After a few seconds, Guan Yan replied, “Alright.”
Yu Ting immediately led Guan Yan to his own resting room.
“Uncle, you can rest here. It’s usually quiet, and no one will disturb you.”
Guan Yan nodded and casually leaned back on the sofa, stretching out his body.
Yu Ting looked at Guan Yan’s relaxed posture, his prominent Adam’s apple, and then at himself. He couldn’t help but feel a pang of envy. Why didn’t he have a physique like his Uncle’s? They weren’t even that far apart in age!
“What are you looking at?” Guan Yan’s deep voice echoed in the resting room.
Yu Ting immediately sat up straight. “N-nothing.”
Although there wasn’t much of an age gap between him and Guan Yan, Yu Ting had always been both afraid of and admired his Uncle. A big reason he had entered the entertainment industry was to be closer to his Uncle. However, after joining the industry, he realized just how high his Uncle’s status was.
“Knock, knock, knock!” The sound of knocking interrupted Yu Ting’s thoughts.
Yu Ting hurried to open the door and found his Agent standing there. “Xiao Ting, there’s a small interview. Can you head over now?”
Yu Ting glanced at Guan Yan in the resting room and nodded. “I’ll be there in a moment.”
“Alright.”
After the Agent left, Yu Ting walked over to the sofa. “Uncle, I have an interview. I’ll be back soon.”
Guan Yan opened his eyes. “Go ahead. Do your best.”
“Yes, I will.”
After Yu Ting left, the resting room fell silent again.
A few minutes later, there was another knock on the door. Guan Yan frowned. Didn’t Xiao Ting say his resting room was usually quiet and undisturbed?
The unhurried knocking at the door couldn’t be ignored by Guan Yan, so he walked over and opened it.
The door was suddenly opened, revealing Tang Qu still in the act of knocking.
Seeing that it was Guan Yan who opened the door, Tang Qu instinctively took two steps back, his eyes darting to the nameplate by the door. It was indeed Yu Ting’s room, so how did Movie Emperor Guan appear from inside?
Their previous encounter had been by chance, but in this situation, Tang Qu had no choice but to greet him. He reacted quickly, saying, “Hello, Movie Emperor Guan.”
Tang Qu hadn’t changed his clothes yet, and the oversized garment made him appear particularly petite and thin to Guan Yan. He had heard that Chen Ke was demanding, but did someone as slight as Tang Qu really need to lose weight?
Guan Yan’s thoughts were fleeting, and he heard himself say in a serious tone, “Hello, Tang Qu.”
