Chapter 6: Visiting Teacher Zhang
Zhang Yong haphazardly patted his face. What was he thinking? Tang Qu was still a child!
“Tang Qu, let’s go in.”
“Okay, Brother Zhang,” Tang Qu replied, turning to look at Zhang Yong with a faint smile.
Zhang Yong increasingly felt that feeling. He was starting to believe that the person standing next to him was the Film Emperor.
Throwing aside the unrealistic thoughts in his head, Zhang Yong figured he needed to reduce some stress lately. The recent work pressure had been too great; he was starting to hallucinate.
After Zhang Yong rang the doorbell, an auntie came to open the door a few seconds later.
“May I help you?”
“I’m Zhang Yong. I had an appointment with Teacher Zhang to visit today.”
“Please come in.”
Tang Qu followed behind Zhang Yong, entering together.
“Teacher Zhang is in the garden. Let me take you there.”
The three walked towards the garden. Through the glass window, Tang Qu saw the elderly man in the garden.
The elderly man was carrying a watering can, watering the flowers.
When Tang Qu truly saw Teacher Zhang, only one phrase came to mind: returning to simplicity.
Teacher Zhang stood there as if he were one with everything in the world, without a hint of disharmony.
“Xiao Qu, don’t be dazed; quickly greet Teacher Zhang.” Zhang Yong nudged Tang Qu.
Tang Qu stood up straight and then bowed deeply. “Hello, Teacher Zhang!”
Teacher Zhang waved his hand. “No need for these formalities. I don’t care about them.”
Handing the watering can to the servant beside him, Teacher Zhang wiped his hands and sat down in the seats prepared in the garden. “Come, sit down.”
Zhang Yong quickly led Tang Qu over. Seeing that Teacher Zhang wanted to pour water, he took the teapot before Teacher Zhang could. “Let me do it, let me do it.”
While pouring water, Teacher Zhang observed Tang Qu. He had agreed to let Tang Qu come to see him for the sake of a good friend. He had watched Tang Qu’s short film. His acting was average, lacking soul. He looked down on such actors. But the current entertainment industry was full of such people. Besides Guan Yan, there wasn’t a single actor in the recent entertainment scene that he approved of.
However, the Tang Qu he met today gave him a huge surprise. He saw a light in Tang Qu’s eyes, a light that didn’t belong to the superficial and impetuous entertainment industry. Given time, Tang Qu would surely become someone that the entire entertainment industry would go crazy for.
Similarly, Tang Qu was also observing Teacher Zhang. Before coming, Zhang Yong had briefed him on Teacher Zhang. Teacher Zhang was from a formal acting background and dedicated his life to acting. He was a true veteran actor who had won many awards in his youth. However, Teacher Zhang didn’t care much about these things. Eventually, when he could no longer act, he retired at home. Still, actors in the entertainment industry considered it an honor to receive Teacher Zhang’s guidance.
Tang Qu’s first reaction upon seeing Teacher Zhang was that he was an unremarkable old man, but he quickly dismissed the thought. Those who didn’t show off their talents were truly at the highest level.
“You’re Tang Qu, right?”
“Yes, Teacher Zhang,” Tang Qu replied. Although he was already a Film Emperor, he still had respect for these seniors because he always felt that he was just a child in front of them.
“I’ve seen your short film. You acted well,” Teacher Zhang said blandly.
Tang Qu lowered his head slightly. “Thank you for the praise, Teacher Zhang. It’s just a clumsy work imitating others.”
Neither obsequious nor arrogant, and not shying away from the truth, his personality was unexpectedly to Teacher Zhang’s liking.
In the entertainment industry, it didn’t matter if your acting skills weren’t high. What was important was knowing how to conduct yourself. Don’t get complacent just because of a small burst of popularity and ignore your own problems. It was rare to see someone like Tang Qu, who directly acknowledged his own shortcomings.
“Knowing that you were imitating others, you still came out to act? Aren’t you afraid of being laughed at?” Teacher Zhang snorted.
