Chapter 7: First Encounter with Guan Yan
Zhang Yong never expected Teacher Zhang to be praising Tang Qu one moment and then suddenly turn on him the next. Just as he was about to respond for Tang Qu, Tang Qu spoke first.
“Although it was an imitation, it was still my own work. First works will inevitably have shortcomings, but every work in the future will be an improvement over the last.” Tang Qu faced Teacher Zhang’s sharp gaze, neither humble nor arrogant.
But Zhang Yong was already drenched in cold sweat. Tang Qu was fearless like a newborn calf, but he wasn’t the same. Teacher Zhang’s status in the industry was unusually high. A casual word from him could ruin Tang Qu’s entire future. By contradicting Teacher Zhang like that, wouldn’t Teacher Zhang just kick them both out?
The furious outburst that Zhang Yong imagined didn’t happen. Instead, he heard Teacher Zhang’s laughter.
“Good, good, good! Young man, you have ambition!”
The entertainment industry wasn’t short of arrogant people, but what it needed was pride, not conceit. Expressing just the right amount of pride and ambition like Tang Qu did was most pleasing to Teacher Zhang. In the entertainment industry, you can’t go far without a bit of ambition.
Having developed a rare curiosity about Tang Qu, he wanted to have him perform a scene on the spot, but the servant came at that moment.
“Teacher Zhang, Mr. Guan said he will come to visit you later.”
“Doesn’t he claim to be busy? What, did he encounter trouble and know to come begging me?” Teacher Zhang harrumphed, acting like a child. “What time will he be here?”
“Three thirty.”
Teacher Zhang looked at the time. There was still half an hour. It looked like he wouldn’t be able to see the young man’s acting today.
“I’m really sorry for today. Someone came unexpectedly. He’s usually elusive and hard to invite, but he finally came today.”
“It’s nothing, Teacher Zhang. It’s our honor that you took the time to see us amidst your busy schedule.” Teacher Zhang’s amiable attitude today was already a pleasant surprise to Zhang Yong. How could he still expect anything else?
Teacher Zhang pondered for a moment and said, “Next week, then. Come over again next week, and I’ll personally guide you.” Teacher Zhang also instructed the servant, “Go get that book from my desk.”
“I can’t let you come here for nothing today. I have a notebook with some of my own experiences. Take it back and read it. It might be helpful.”
“Hurry and thank Teacher Zhang!” Zhang Yong nudged Tang Qu. This kid really didn’t know what kind of luck he had. Who didn’t know that Teacher Zhang didn’t have any students? Letting Tang Qu take his notebook home to study was practically making him half a student!
Tang Qu also hadn’t expected things to develop in this direction. He solemnly accepted Teacher Zhang’s notebook. “Thank you very much.” This contained the hard work of an old artist and needed to be treated with care.
After saying a few more words, Zhang Yong and Tang Qu bid farewell to Teacher Zhang.
As soon as Tang Qu sat in Zhang Yong’s car, he saw a Shelby sports car drive into the courtyard. Tang Qu raised his eyebrows. In his previous life, he had always wanted to buy this sports car, but it was a little too expensive. Before he could buy it, he had died.
While waiting, Tang Qu saw a man in a black trench coat, with a tall and straight figure, get out of the car. Tang Qu estimated that he was over 1.9 meters tall, a height that he envied. He used to be 1.87 meters tall, but this body was only 1.8 meters. A difference of 10 centimeters was a world of difference!
Zhang Yong drove the car out of the courtyard at that moment. As they passed by the man, Tang Qu finally saw the man’s face. With just one glance, Tang Qu etched his appearance in his mind.
The man’s eyebrows were slightly raised, revealing sharpness. A pair of captivating eyes carried a soul-stirring charm. The high, straight nose had an inherent arrogance. The lips were full. But that wasn’t what Tang Qu found most impressive. What impressed Tang Qu the most was the man’s aura. Standing there, he was impossible to ignore, but he also exuded a detached nobleness, as if he were isolating himself from the world and looking down on everything from above.
And Tang Qu already knew who this man was: Guan Yan!
