Reborn as a Farmer with Fields Chapter 269

Chapter 269: Adoption?

Wang Mei’s words sparked anger in Wang Zhi, who glared furiously at her sister, “Why didn’t you marry him if he was so good? Why did you introduce him to me?”

Finding her sister’s response unacceptable, Wang Mei retorted bluntly, “And what about you? Who shamelessly slept with him in the first place? If you wouldn’t marry him, who would? No man would take you. I did it for your own good. You can’t blame me for your poor judgment.”

Seeing the sisters arguing again, Zhu Qiyu intervened impatiently, “Both of you, stop arguing. Let’s focus on Wang Zhi’s situation today.”

As Wang Deshan returned from work, he overheard the conversation. Concerned, he asked, “What’s wrong with our daughter? What are you discussing about her?”

Seeing her biological father return, Wang Zhi couldn’t hold back her tears, feeling aggrieved. When Wang Deshan learned about the situation, he was furious, veins bulging in anger. “How can this scoundrel treat her like this? What did our Zhi do wrong to deserve such punishment?”

Every parent cherishes their child, and Wang Deshan’s reaction was justified considering his daughter’s plight. Upon hearing about their youngest daughter’s ordeal, Wang Deshan, usually calm, was visibly fuming.

Regaining her composure, Zhu Qiyu sat back down and addressed her husband, “Stop pacing around, you’re making me dizzy. Let’s figure out a solution. We can’t let our child be left without someone to care for her in old age. What kind of misfortune has befallen us, subjecting our daughter to such suffering?”

The old lady couldn’t help but shed tears while discussing this, and Wang Deshan was also contemplating solutions. Wang Zhi was their own flesh and blood, and he couldn’t bear to see her suffer. Despite Li Changhai’s shortcomings, the fact that they didn’t have children together was a significant issue. His previous wife had two children, adding to the complexity of the situation.

“Wife, how about this? Let Zhi adopt a child. Raising a child from a young age will create a bond, and they will care for her in the future,” Wang Deshan suggested.

Upon hearing this, Wang Zhi firmly refused, “Dad, what are you thinking? How can I raise someone else’s child? I didn’t give birth to this child, why should I raise them? I am capable of having my own children, and I disagree with this idea.”

Sighing heavily, Wang Deshan realized he might have spoiled his daughter too much. “Zhi, every child requires care. Raising a child from infancy without knowing their biological parents could create a strong bond. They would grow up to be respectful and caring towards you. Moreover, considering your divorce, returning home might invite gossip, and finding a place to stay in the city would be challenging. Your sister’s in-laws’ house is crowded. As for Li Changhai, he treats you well. Men mellow with age, and you’ll have better days ahead. Finding someone like him, with a good job and family background, might be difficult. He may be older, but he’s a good man. Instead of focusing on his flaws, consider your own temperament. Returning to the countryside may not be easy for you. Finding another family might not tolerate your quirks.”

Wang Deshan felt uneasy labeling his daughter as greedy and lazy. He tactfully advised her to consider the future more thoughtfully, emphasizing that while divorce might seem simple, the complications that follow are numerous. As an older person, he had to think more for his child. While it might be easier for men, the situation was different for women. Men might not worry about finding partners, but it was more complex for daughters.

Wang Zhi, feeling resistant, pouted, “Dad, you make it sound like I won’t find someone better in the future. I’m still young, and I’m not as bad as you’re making me out to be.”

Glancing at her daughter, who seemed naive, Zhu Qiyu tried to explain, “Zhi, your father means well. You think you’ll easily find someone better, but let’s consider Li Changhai. In terms of appearance, you don’t match up. You need to think about why he chose you, not just based on looks. Even if you don’t want to raise a child, consider adoption. We have options within our family to consider.”

The idea of adoption was well-received by the family. Wang Zenguo immediately rejected the idea of his son being adopted. Zhu Qiyu noted they had two sons, and Wang Mei expressed reluctance due to family traditions.

Wang Zhi retorted to Wang Mei, “Sister, you’re being petty. Any child in our family would be well cared for. It’s not like I’m out to harm them.”

Wang Mei kept her thoughts to herself but internally reflected that Wang Zhi’s greedy and lazy nature was not conducive for her son. She felt that her son’s future would be at a loss if entrusted to Wang Zhi, especially for her own care in old age.

Reluctantly, Wang Zhi questioned, “Mom, why make things so complicated? Divorce would solve everything.”

Zhu Qiyu, infuriated by Wang Zhi’s response, sternly rebuked, “Shut up! If you dare mention divorce again, I’ll disown you. Our family doesn’t need a daughter like you.”

Feeling unfairly treated, Wang Zhi suppressed her emotions. She felt pressured to accept the idea of adopting a child without being consulted about her own feelings. The prospect of living without Li Changhai seemed daunting, despite being employed and on the verge of a promotion.

Everyone present could sense her distress, knowing she had created her own troubles. They realized that Wang Zhi was in a difficult situation due to her past decisions.

“Zenguo, go find your three brothers. We need to discuss this matter thoroughly,” Zhu Qiyu instructed.

Wang Zenguo hesitated, mentioning that his third brother and his family were working in the city and might not have returned. He suggested waiting until the next day to discuss the issue with them, emphasizing the importance of finding a suitable resolution to avoid further complications.

Reflecting on the situation, Zhu Qiyu agreed, realizing the need for careful consideration after almost making a hasty decision earlier.

“Wife, take care of this. You’re the financial minister of our family, so I entrust everything to your care. Don’t forget to repay the money spent to others. This is a business venture we embarked on together, and we mustn’t engage in deceitful practices,” Wang Zhenhe handed over the house deed to Zhang Lan.

Smiling, Zhang Lan accepted the documents but was swiftly snatched by Wang Qian, “Mom, let me see it first. I want to see how big of a house they bought.”

As she looked at the square meters mentioned, even she was stunned, “Brother, it’s such a big house! Now, our whole family can comfortably stay in Beijing. It’s amazing, truly amazing!”

Watching their little eccentric sister’s excitement, the family suppressed their laughter. Previously, she had a penchant for money, then for collecting odds and ends, and now, she was fixated on houses. Despite the sudden change in interest, seeing her so happy brought joy to Mingcheng and the others. They believed that spending money to make her happy was worth it, especially since it was her idea to venture into this business.

“Qian Qian, the location of the house is excellent. Grandpa Chen checked it for us, and he also helped with the formalities. He mentioned that once you all move in, we can have family gatherings in this house,” Mingcheng shared with his sister.

Mingcheng and his sister hadn’t mentioned one thing yet – living at Grandpa Chen’s house was tolerable, but dealing with his relatives was less than ideal. The constant intrusion and lack of boundaries were frustrating for everyone. They decided that having their own house would help them avoid such situations and also provide a space for Grandpa Chen to live comfortably without interference.
