Sitting back next to Wang Zhenhe, holding his hand, Wang Qian looked into his eyes earnestly. “Dad, this situation really isn’t your fault. No one could have foreseen the devious intentions of your mother. But this time, she has cut off her own path. If she falls ill in the future, we won’t ignore her. We’ll arrange for someone to care for her. But she is forever barred from stepping foot into our home. I will stick to my word. Dad, remember what I’m telling you today – no one is allowed to mistreat my mom.”
Wang Zhenhe nodded firmly. “Qian Qian, it won’t happen again. I will never allow anyone to harm your mom again. I will spend the rest of my life with her. Nobody can replace her, not even your grandmother.”
Wang Zhenhe spoke these words with conviction. While Zhu Qiyu was his mother, her continuous harm to the family, from the eldest to the youngest, left him with no hesitation. He had no qualms about his decision.
Upon receiving the news, Wang Juan hurried over, followed by Liu Hui. Upon entering, they found Zhu Qiyu sitting on the ground, wiping away tears blankly. This sight left Liu Hui stunned. The old lady was playing some sort of unexpected act. Her initial assessment wasn’t wrong.
Wang Juan exchanged a glance with someone and helped the old lady up, saying, “Mom, what’s wrong with you? Where’s your Third daughter-in-lae? Did she just leave you alone at home?”
At that moment, Zhu Qiyu seemed to find solace in Wang Juan, hugging her eldest daughter-in-law and bursting into tears. “Eldest daughter-in-law, my third son’s wife suddenly collapsed, and he took her to the hospital. Look at my legs, I can’t even stand up. Zhang Lan is unwell too. Maybe I should go to your house. She probably can’t take care of me anymore.”
After contemplating, Zhu Qiyu felt it was best to leave. Uncertain about the situation, she decided it was safer to hide for a while. Staying with her eldest son’s family seemed appealing, where she could enjoy good food and service every day. Even if her third son came looking for her, her eldest son would shield her. She ruled out her second son’s home due to the unpredictable Han Cui.
Wang Juan, with a sly smile, said, “Mom, after your Thirds son’s family takes care of you, it won’t be our turn. You should go to Wang Zhengou’s house. Originally, it was agreed that your youngest would care for you. It might be best for you to return to your own home. Some things you should understand. Don’t cause more trouble when your third son returns. Can your reputation withstand it? I’ll take you back.”
This was Wang Juan preserving Zhu Qiyu’s dignity. If this matter spread, the Wang family would face ridicule. Having a grandmother like her was not a blessing but a calamity.
Hearing Wang Juan’s words, Zhu Qiyu realized something. After some thought, she chuckled, “You’re right. It’s time for me to go back home. It’s best if you take me back to avoid causing you trouble.”
The old lady’s heartfelt words might deceive those unaware, appearing considerate and understanding. However, Zhu Qiyu knew better. Wang Juan must have had some inkling of the truth to speak in such a manner. She realized she had to return home this time, even if she didn’t want to, to avoid potential consequences.
The next morning, after Wang Juan escorted Zhu Qiyu back home, Wang Zhenguo took a leave of absence and brought the old lady to town. With Wang Zhi and Wang Mei there, even if his mother wanted her leg to heal, it would take time, so staying there was the safest option.
After enjoying a restful day of sleep, Zhang Lan woke up in the hospital the next morning, finding Wang Zhenhe and her daughter looking at her with red eyes. After recalling the events, she understood what had happened.
“I’m fine, don’t worry. I feel much better after a good sleep. By the way, how’s your mother? Why are you all here? Who’s taking care of her?” Zhang Lan inquired, still unaware of the situation.
Wang Zhenhe, his voice hoarse, replied while holding his wife’s hand, “Wife, don’t worry about mother. She’s better off than anyone. We’ve all been deceived.”
Wang Qian then explained the entire situation to Zhang Lan, who was shocked by the revelation. “Oh, how can this be? It’s almost like a spy movie! How does your mother come up with these schemes? If this were ancient times, she’d be fit to be an emperor. Fortunately, I’m still alive. It’s a waste of her efforts,” Zhang Lan remarked with a hint of self-deprecation.
“Wife, there won’t be any more of these incidents in the future. Just as Qian Qian said, she won’t step foot in our home again. If she dares to come, you grab a broom and chase her out. Honestly, I’m afraid of her. One day, she might poison us all,” Wang Zhenhe declared, expressing his concerns.
“That Wang Zhenguo, I’ll give him a proper scolding when I get the chance. He and his mother teamed up to play games with us. It almost led to a tragedy. That despicable mother of his is truly awful, all talk and no action. She’s not even worthy of being called a person, let alone an elder,” Wang Juan cursed, feeling relieved, before leaving without a word.
While Wang Juan scolded Zhu Qiyu, neither of her sons spoke up. They restrained themselves, as the desire to confront her physically lingered beneath the surface.
“Bro, next time you’re back, we need to have a serious talk with Wang Zhenguo. That scoundrel dares to stoop to such levels. If we don’t teach him a lesson, who knows what else he might do in the future. We need to show him some boundaries before it’s too late”
Wang Zhenhai agreed, nodding.
“Alright, call me when you’re back, and we’ll deal with him together. We’re brothers, after all. That jerk has lost touch with his humanity under his grandmother’s influence. If we don’t set things straight, it’ll only get worse,” Wang Zhenhai affirmed.
After Wang Zhenhe and Wang Qian left, Mingyuan, sensing trouble at home, felt a sense of unease. Though he wanted to return, his studies couldn’t be neglected. He had to take notes for his sister. When asked about their whereabouts, he lied, saying they were out on business.
As class ended, his lack of enthusiasm for activities was evident. Lost in thought, he heard a familiar voice, “Bro, I’m back.”
When Wang Qian called out, Mingyuan felt as if he had heard a divine melody. Startled, he sat up and looked at her with joy.
“Sis, what happened at home? You and Dad didn’t come back all night. Do you know how worried I was? Is Mom okay?” Mingyuan urgently asked, voicing the lingering concern in his heart. Seeing his anxious demeanor, Wang Qian sat beside him and quietly briefed him on the situation at home.
Mingyuan, enraged, immediately wanted to return home to avenge his mother. However, Wang Qian stopped him, saying, “Bro, calm down. Grandma and Uncle have gone to town. We rushed back because we were worried about you. Dad and Uncle promised they won’t let this slide. Leave it to Dad; they might be brothers, but hurting them won’t solve anything. We’ll have our chance to teach them a lesson in the future. We’ll remember this grudge and settle scores bit by bit.”
Wang Qian acknowledged she wasn’t a vengeful person, but everyone had their limits. The Wang family had crossed hers multiple times. She was not one to forget easily. She vowed to keep track of these debts and settle them when the opportunity arose. Holding grudges was her forte.
