Chapter 5
There was no special style for schoolbags these days, they were basically army green cross-body bags, and the stationery was not complicated, just exercise books, pens and ink.
Tang Huan picked out a relatively small backpack that could hold his books.
The fountain pen I chose is the most common one, so I wouldn’t feel bad if it was lost or broken.
The schoolbag cost three dollars, the pen cost two dollars and a half, plus the exercise book and ink, the total cost was six dollars and two dollars.
Tang Huan reached into his pocket and took out ten dollars to pay for tuition and handed it to the salesperson, who also reached out to take it.
“Wait, I have change.” Xing Cui stopped the salesperson from giving change and took out six dollars and twenty cents and gave them to the salesperson.
Tang Huan stopped him, “No need, Mom, I’ll pay for it myself.”
“I’m happy to buy things for you!” Xing Cui took the ten yuan from Tang Huan from the salesperson and put it back into her pocket.
The salesperson took the money very conveniently, which was exactly $6.20.
Tang Huan felt bad and wanted to give the ten yuan to Xing Cui, but Xing Cui walked out quickly without giving her a chance.
After Meng Zeyan passed away, Tang Huan gave all the compensation from the factory to the old couple. From then on, the old couple were afraid that she had no money, so they would secretly give her money and rush to pay the bills when she went out.
Tang Huan was tempted and thought about using the money to buy a house of his own and find a place to settle down. But every time she thought that it was Meng Zeyan’s life-saving money, she felt it was too hot to handle.
They had been married for one day and hadn’t even consummated their marriage. They were only related by the name on the marriage certificate.
After buying things, the two went to eat together. At that time, there were still quite a few people eating in the breakfast shop.
Finding an empty seat and sitting down, Tang Huan ordered a bowl of tofu pudding and a fried dough stick. Xing Cui had a bowl of spicy soup and a sesame seed bun.
This time, Tang Huan paid the bill in advance while Xing Cui was not paying attention.
The white and tender tofu pudding is topped with a rich marinade which seems to contain chopped mushroom cubes, kelp and fried tofu cubes. If you taste it carefully, you can taste the meat foam, which is particularly fresh and fragrant.
Tang Huan likes to tear the fried dough sticks into small pieces and put them into the tofu pudding bowl. He then waits for the fried dough sticks to absorb the soup before putting them into his mouth. The soup explodes in his mouth after he takes a bite.
In her previous life, she had no taste for food, so she liked to watch food shows. She would drool when she saw the hosts describing the taste of the food.
But when she bought the same thing, she couldn’t taste it.
After buying things and finishing their meal, the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law went home.
Tang Huan was wearing a white short-sleeved shirt with a red and white plaid long skirt today, and crystal sandals on her feet. The clothes perfectly outlined her exquisite figure.
When he came back, he had an army green backpack slung across his body, with newly bought stationery in it.
After returning to the room and packing her backpack, Tang Huan sat on the edge of the bed in a daze. She began to feel scared. She had to go to school in the afternoon. Would she be able to get along well with her classmates?
Will people laugh at me if I go back to high school at the age of 20?
Thinking back to her previous life, she was clearly sitting in the classroom but was separated from her classmates by an invisible wall. Feelings of timid retreat flashed through her mind again and again.
In the end, the fear of Meng Zeyan prevailed, and Tang Huan didn’t dare to tell him no.
After lunch, Meng Zeyan was waiting in the yard, ready to send Tang Huan to school.
The high school he found for Tang Huan was the same high school he and Zeyu had attended before. It was not far from home, only two bus stops away and less than ten minutes by bike.
The principal said that she had to take an exam to be admitted, and the school would only accept her if she passed the exam. Meng Zeyan felt that she should have no problem.
If she really fails the exam, he has a way. Anyway, she will definitely be able to continue studying.
After returning to the room and slinging his schoolbag across his body, Tang Huan pinched the bag strap with his fingers and walked to Meng Zeyan’s side with courage, “Brother, let’s go!”
“Um.”
Meng Zeyan nodded, turned around and walked out.
Tang Huan followed him silently. She took small steps and the distance between them became larger and larger. When the distance was too far, she would jog to catch up.
Hearing the footsteps running behind him, Meng Zeyan turned around and found that the person running was Tang Huan.
He was jogging after him, but unexpectedly Meng Zeyan suddenly stopped and looked back. Tang Huan braked immediately and looked at him stiffly.
“You can call me in this situation.” Meng Zeyan looked gentle. He himself didn’t know why Tang Huan was so afraid of him.
Few people avoid him the first time they meet him, because he is recognized as…kind in his original unit.
Tang Huan blinked and nodded and replied: “Oh.”
Meng Zeyan turned around and continued walking, this time walking much slower.
I thought to myself that Zeyu actually liked little rabbits.
In Meng Zeyan’s eyes, Tang Huan was like a frightened rabbit, and the slightest movement could scare her.
If he had known she was like this, he would not have suspected her of the strange death of Zeyu.
In the past two days since he came back, Meng Zeyan has carefully investigated the cause of his brother’s death, and the result is the same as what his mother said, it was indeed an accident.
He was overthinking it before.
This time, Tang Huan only needed to walk a little faster to keep up, and the two of them stood at the bus stop, one in front of the other, waiting for the bus.
Meng Zeyan remembered that he hadn’t told her about the test papers yet, “When you get to school, you have to do a few test papers. If you can do them, do them. If you can’t, it’s okay.”
Tang Huan nodded, “Yeah.”
After saying that, he felt that this was not a good idea and seemed a bit perfunctory, so he replied again: “I can do it.”
“That’s good.” Meng Zeyan responded and said nothing else.
There were only two of them waiting for the bus at the moment. Meng Zeyan had already trained his body shape a long time ago, so he could stand straight no matter what.
Tang Huan was standing behind him, waiting in line to get on the bus. When he looked up, he saw his black short-sleeved shirt sticking to his back, revealing his solid muscles.
She quickly looked down at her toes, as if there was some rare treasure on her feet.
The bus arrived at the station, Meng Zeyan got on first, and Tang Huan was finally able to raise his head and follow him on.
The driver recognized the two of them as soon as Tang Huan got in the car, and he stepped on the accelerator and started the car.
His footing was not stable, but he didn’t want to fall, so Tang Huan reached out to grab the pole beside him. His hand touched the pole but he couldn’t grab it.
Meng Zeyan casually looked back, wanting to see if Tang Huan had gotten into the car, but he happened to see her falling, so he quickly reached out to pull her up.
Just when he was about to sit on the ground, Tang Huan’s small arm was grabbed by a big hand and lifted up.
Not only did he pull her back from mid-air, Meng Zeyan also carried her to the empty seat next to him.
Before Tang Huan could react, he was already standing in front of the empty seat.
After releasing her arm, Meng Zeyan reminded her: “Sit tight and hold on tight.”
Tang Huan sat down obediently, holding on to her hands silently. She almost fell down just now, fortunately her uncle pulled her up.
Meng Zeyan bought the ticket and then found an empty seat and sat down.
It took about six or seven minutes to travel between the two stops. Meng Zeyan stood up in advance and walked to the back door of the bus to wait for getting off, which was also a signal for Tang Huan to get off.
Tang Huan also stood up when he saw this, and moved to the back door by grabbing the seat, holding on very tightly.
The car stopped and two people got out one after another.
Many people get off at this station, most of them are students, and it is easy to find the school by following the crowd.
The gatekeeper had seen Meng Zeyan in the morning and did not stop them from entering the school.
The principal was waiting for them in the office. On the desk was a small stack of test papers, eight in total, one for each subject. These were the tests that Tang Huan would be taking later.
This year, English was officially listed as a college entrance examination subject. The principal was not worried about anything else but that the person recommended by Meng Zeyan had no English foundation at all.
I heard from Meng Zeyan that the child is already 20 years old and has graduated from high school three or four years ago. It is very likely that he has never learned English.
If you have never learned English, it would be a real problem.
There was a knock on the door. The principal stopped thinking and said to the outside, “Come in.”
Meng Zeyan pushed open the door and led Tang Huan into the office. He smiled and introduced Tang Huan to the principal: “Uncle Xu, this is Tang Huan who I told you about repeating the year.”
