Chapter 26: “Mother, can Sister go home with Yu Er?”
Liu Ru Yan: “How did there come to be a child in Shu Er’s arms?”
Wen Jing: “The child in Miss Mu Rong’s arms, smiling so happily, looks so much like Yu Er.”
Wen Zhi: “Am I seeing things? We’ve found Yu Er!”
“Shu Er, where did this child come from?” Liu Ru Yan’s voice had changed pitch in surprise.
“I picked him up!” Mu Rong Shu spoke the truth, but Liu Ru Yan, still in shock, thought she was joking.
“Father, Third Uncle, you finally came to see Yu Er! Has Mother come too?” The little one clearly hadn’t expected to see his Third Uncle and Father, waving his hands excitedly to make sure they saw him.
Now it was Mu Rong Shu and Song Yan Ran’s turn to be astonished. Their luck had been extraordinary, just by casually picking up a child, they had found the Wen family’s eldest grandson.
“Yu Er, why didn’t you say hello and ran off without telling anyone?” Wen Zhi, who had been anxiously worried, finally let out a breath of relief. He was about to take his son from Mu Rong Shu to check on him, but Mu Rong Shu misunderstood, thinking that Wen Zhi was about to scold the little one.
So Mu Rong Shu didn’t hand the child to Wen Zhi, instead trying to convince him, “Master Wen, the child is still young, you can teach him slowly. Please, don’t scold him.”
Wen Zhi looked at her with a confused expression, “Who am I? Where am I?” He had been worried about his son’s curse acting up, and had gotten a bit anxious, but he wasn’t planning to scold the child.
Seeing his elder brother so flustered, Wen Jing couldn’t help but smile. His brother was renowned for his eloquence, able to shut down foreign diplomats with his words, but now he had met his match in Mu Rong Shu…
“The beautiful sister is right, Father can’t hit children!” The little one hugged Mu Rong Shu even tighter, as if to emphasize his point.
At this moment, Wen Zhi genuinely felt like scolding the child, but worried that Mu Rong Shu would misunderstand, he coaxed the little one, “You’re too heavy. Let Father hold you, okay? Let Miss Shu rest for a bit.”
Although the little one did want to be held by his father, he refused, remembering how comfortable it was being held by the beautiful sister. “But it’s so warm and cozy when the beautiful sister holds me.”
The little one’s words caused both Wen Jing and Wen Zhi to stare in disbelief. Wen Zhi looked at his third brother in shock. When he saw Wen Jing nodding, his face filled with joy.
“Master Wen, just let Shu Er hold him. He wouldn’t let me hold him the entire way, only recognizing Shu Er.”
Song Yan Ran now felt better, realizing that the little one didn’t dislike her, as she had thought earlier. Even his real father couldn’t get him to want to be held.
Song Yan Ran, who had been amused by the little one constantly boasting about his Third Uncle, teasingly asked, “Yu Er, didn’t you say you like your Third Uncle the most? How about letting Third Uncle hold you?”
Her words made both Wen Jing and Wen Zhi look at Wen Yu. The little one seemed torn. He really liked the beautiful sister, and he had already refused his father. But if he refused Third Uncle again, would Third Uncle be upset?
Mu Rong Shu, seeing that the little one was silent, assumed he was unwilling. She gently pinched his cheek and said, “Let me hold Yu Er, our Yu Er isn’t heavy at all.”
Wen Zhi’s heart sank. Now it seemed that Yu Er only wanted Miss Shu. What would he do when they saw Madam later?
When Wen Zhi thought about his wife, he realized he hadn’t notified anyone that Yu Er had been found.
“Third Brother, you stay here and take care of Yu Er. I’ll go find your sister-in-law. She’s been searching for Yu Er, and I’m afraid she might start to worry if she can’t find him.”
Because of the confusion caused by his son, Wen Zhi needed to handle the situation personally. Since his son didn’t need him right now, he decided to take care of other matters.
“Brother, don’t worry, I’ll take good care of Yu Er.”
“Goodbye, Father!”
After bidding farewell to everyone, Wen Zhi immediately ordered for the search to be called off and headed to find his wife.
Once Wen Zhi left, Mu Rong Shu noticed that only Liu Ru Yan was there, and her older brother was missing. “Sister Ru Yan, where’s Big Brother?”
“We ran into Wen San Gong Zi and the others looking for the child on our way back. Brother Shi Shu helped with the search, and since I was worried you’d be anxious waiting, I came ahead to find you.”
Mu Rong Shu couldn’t help but sigh. It was so inconvenient in ancient times without phones. One mistake, and people could easily get lost.
“Then let’s wait for Cousin here.” They didn’t want to miss him again, so they decided to wait at the same spot.
Fortunately, Mu Rong Shu didn’t have to wait long. When he arrived, seeing the child in his sister’s arms and Wen San Gong Zi standing nearby, he quickly pieced things together. Liu Ru Yan, worried he might not understand, softly explained again.
But when he tried to hold the little one out of concern for his sister, he too was refused, causing everyone to laugh. After hearing Song Yan Ran’s explanation, Mu Rong Shu bashfully scratched his head.
As a protective older brother, Mu Rong Shu figured his sister must be too adorable for the little one to want anyone else to hold him. Children were the most sincere, after all.
Once Mu Rong Shu arrived, they were led by Wen Jing to find the little one’s mother, Wen Jing’s sister-in-law.
Earlier, due to the curse of the Wen family, the little one, Wen Yu, had been sent to Hui Shan Temple. Today, feeling homesick and missing his mother, he snuck away to the back mountain to cry in the flower fields while the temple monks were busy. He was discovered by Mu Rong Shu and Song Yan Ran.
Because he was so close to Mu Rong Shu, he forgot that he had snuck away, which led to the confusion of everyone searching for him.
Now, realizing the trouble he caused and fearing his mother would be upset if she couldn’t find him, the little one’s mood had dropped.
When Wen Jing and the others finally found Wen Zhi and his wife, Wen Da Fu, upon hearing that her son had been found, fainted from the overwhelming relief. Wen Zhi quickly took her to a resting room at the temple.
Originally, they had planned to find a doctor, but since Mu Rong Shu was a physician herself, she administered a needle, and Wen Da Fu regained consciousness.
Seeing her son in front of her, Wen Da Fu finally felt at ease and hugged Wen Yu, tears streaming down her face.
“Mother, don’t cry, it’s my fault. I won’t run off and make you worry again.” The little one wiped his mother’s tears, speaking in his cute, babyish voice.
“Lady Wen, please don’t cry. Your health is most important!” Mu Rong Shu, seeing how the little one was feeling guilty, quickly comforted Wen Da Fu.
“Miss Mu Rong, I’m truly grateful. Thank you so much.” Wen Da Fu, aware that it was Mu Rong Shu who had helped her, felt deeply thankful.
“Mother, do you know the beautiful sister?” The little one noticed how familiar his mother seemed with Mu Rong Shu, and also with his father and Third Uncle.
“Yes, we’ve been to your house before, but you weren’t home then.” Mu Rong Shu smiled as she pinched the little one’s cheek.
“Mother, can the beautiful sister stay with us? Yu Er likes her a lot. When she holds me, it feels so warm and I don’t hurt anymore.”
The little one looked at his mother expectantly, imagining that the large yard at home, his own private space, would be a perfect place for the beautiful sister to stay with him.
