Chapter 47: Little Yu Treats With a Large Sum!
Mu Rong Shu was taken aback when she heard this, then smiled knowingly and nodded. She hadn’t expected that Wen Jing had been waiting here specifically to invite her to a meal.
Seeing Mu Rong Shu nod, Wen Jing let out a sigh of relief. He had never invited a woman to dinner before and had been worried she might refuse. His palms were sweaty from nervousness.
“Uncle, Mu Rong sister, Yu Er wants to go too! Yu Er loves the food at Tian Ran Pavilion!” Little Yu quickly expressed his desire to join, afraid that Wen Jing and Mu Rong Shu might sneak off without him.
“Of course we’ll bring our little Yu Er, who’s so cute!” Mu Rong Shu said as she took Little Yu’s hand. Little Yu was overjoyed, it seemed that Mu Rong Shu liked him even more!
Since Mu Rong Shu agreed to go with Little Yu the next day, the little one had been in an excited state. After Mu Rong Shu returned home, Little Yu immediately asked his mother to help pick out his clothes for the outing and also asked for the money he kept with her.
“Why do you need so much money, Yu Er? It’s not good for children to carry too much, what if you lose it? Let me keep it for you, alright?” Wen Da Fu Ren said, discussing it with her son before bed.
“Mother, I want to treat Mu Rong sister to lots of delicious food tomorrow, so I need to take more money,” Little Yu said confidently, which made Wen Da Fu Ren almost laugh.
“The money I’ve already given you is enough to buy plenty of food, Yu Er. Can you just take a little less?” Wen Da Fu Ren suggested kindly.
“Mother, please give me just one more silver note, you’re the best!” Little Yu pouted and acted coquettishly to get his way.
“Alright, I’ll find a little money pouch for you. That way, you’ll be able to treat Mu Rong sister to a nice meal tomorrow.” Wen Da Fu Ren couldn’t resist her son’s adorable antics. She had always felt indebted to him, and now with his sweet coaxing, how could she possibly resist? After all, it was just a silver note.
Little Yu, having gotten the money he wanted, snuggled up to his mother, making her heart melt. As long as her little Yu Er was healthy and happy, she was willing to do anything for him.
The next morning, very early
Little Yu woke up early to go find his third uncle. He was worried that his third uncle might oversleep. When he reached Wen Jing’s courtyard, he found that his third uncle was already having breakfast.
“Why are you up so early today, Yu Er? Have you eaten breakfast?” Wen Jing, surprised to see his nephew so early, invited him to join as he just started his own meal.
“I was worried that third uncle might sleep in, so I came over right after waking up. I just came to eat breakfast with you.” Little Yu was quite at ease, climbing onto a stool and waiting for the servants to bring him breakfast and utensils.
“Yu Er, our meal with Mu Rong sister is for lunch, so there’s no need to be here so early. Mu Rong sister will be asleep for a while, and if we get there too early, you might get bored,” Wen Jing explained, thinking he should clarify things with his nephew so that he wouldn’t be too eager to leave right after breakfast.
“Since Mu Rong sister is still sleeping, how about you teach me what I didn’t understand from yesterday’s lessons after breakfast? There are still some things I don’t get. But Uncle, remember the time! We can’t be late, Mu Rong sister definitely doesn’t like people who are late,” Little Yu said seriously, making sure that they wouldn’t waste time.
Although Little Yu agreed to stay at home and study, he still reminded his third uncle not to forget the time. When it came to anything related to Mu Rong Shu, Little Yu was exceptionally persistent and serious.
General’s Mansion
“Miss, which dress would you like to wear today?” Xiao Tao, who had heard from the miss yesterday that she would be going out for an appointment, woke up early to help Mu Rong Shu choose her outfit.
“This green one will do. We’re just going for lunch with familiar people. Xiao Tao, don’t be so nervous, just something simple.” Mu Rong Shu casually pointed to a green dress. She genuinely felt that any dress would be fine, but Xiao Tao was unusually serious.
“So, you like this one? I’ve been so indecisive, but I see now that this one is perfect for you,” Xiao Tao said, relieved. “Your skin is so fair, you’d look good in any color. These are new clothes Madam had made for you, and they’re especially suited to you.”
Xiao Tao had been agonizing over the decision for a while. Now that Mu Rong Shu had picked the green one, she thought it was even more fitting.
After breakfast, Mu Rong Shu spent some time chatting with her grandmother, then went to her mother’s courtyard to talk with her and greet Song Wei. She then left with Xiao Tao and Er Zhu, heading to the restaurant.
She brought along the snacks she had made for Little Yu and the sugar-pickled plums for Wen Er Fu Ren, which she had forgotten to deliver during her visit yesterday.
When Mu Rong Shu arrived at the restaurant, Wen Jing and Little Yu were already there. As soon as Little Yu saw her walk in, he ran over to her excitedly. “Mu Rong sister, you’re finally here! Yu Er missed you so much!”
“Since Yu Er missed me so much, I brought you some snacks!” Mu Rong Shu smiled as she handed the snacks she’d brought to Little Yu.
“Wow, snacks! Thank you, Mu Rong sister! Today, I’m treating you to a big feast!” Little Yu was overjoyed. The snacks that Mu Rong Shu made were delicious and unique. He had them twice before and had been craving them ever since. Now, he was thrilled to have them again.
“Then, I’ll have to order more dishes at lunch! Did you bring enough money, Yu Er?” Mu Rong Shu teasingly asked Little Yu, finding it amusing that such a little one was treating her to a meal.
“Don’t worry, Mu Rong sister. I brought my New Year’s money, and I also asked mother for some silver notes.” Little Yu proudly showed Mu Rong Shu the money he had pulled out of his little purse, spreading it out on the table.
Mu Rong Shu had only been joking, but now, seeing that Little Yu had actually brought money, she realized he was serious about treating her.
Wen Jing couldn’t help but laugh at his little nephew. No wonder he had been clutching his money pouch tightly all the way here. It turned out he was carrying a large sum!
“It’s hot outside. Shu Er, why don’t you sit down and rest for a bit? Try the tea I made,” Wen Jing said, concerned about Mu Rong Shu’s comfort. He also instructed the waiter to bring over two basins of ice to place near her.
Mu Rong Shu took a sip of the tea, finding it perfectly brewed. A cool breeze blew toward her, and she noticed that Wen Jing was gently fanning her with a hand fan.
Mu Rong Shu was touched by his patience and attentiveness. This man was extraordinarily handsome, talented, and although not very expressive, he always seemed to be looking after her.
From the first time they met, when she had felt something special, to everything that had happened since, she had developed affection, curiosity, and a sense of excitement for him. She wanted to explore more with him and share more experiences.
Mu Rong Shu wasn’t sure if this was love, but if it was about living a life with this man, it seemed like a pleasant thought.
Since the dishes served were the restaurant’s signature dishes, Wen Jing had ordered them in advance, making sure to choose Mu Rong Shu’s favorites.
Mu Rong Shu preferred not to have others wait on her while eating, so she sent Xiao Tao and Er Zhu downstairs to order, telling them to report back for reimbursement.
Xiao Tao, knowing her mistress’s preferences, called her brother and Wen Jing’s attendants to go downstairs to place the order. But the waiter stopped them, revealing that Wen Jing had already instructed the manager to reserve a table for them upstairs.
