Chapter 50: I Will Personally Report This to the Emperor!
Muss looked at Wen Ye with confusion on his face and walked over reluctantly.
“What is it that you want to discuss? I’m already furious. You’d better not provoke me further. That damn Duke of Ding’s heir, I’m going home to sharpen my forty-meter-long blade,” Muss said, his anger clear.
“We’ve fought, we’ve beaten him, but don’t you want to take one more revenge?” Wen Ye asked mysteriously.
“You have a way?” Muss asked, intrigued.
“Of course, come closer and listen!” Wen Ye said with a knowing look.
Though Muss often argued with Wen Ye, he had to admit that Wen Ye was clever and full of tricks. Seeing his expression, Muss knew that the Duke of Ding’s heir was in for some serious trouble.
Reluctantly, Muss leaned in to listen. After hearing Wen Ye’s idea, he thought it was a brilliant one.
The two of them discussed the details, then returned to the others.
“Big Sister Muss, Yu Er is hungry!” Little Yu, seeing that everyone had calmed down, finally spoke up.
Muss felt guilty for forgetting about Little Yu and bent down to pick him up, asking, “What would you like to eat, Yu Er?”
Little Yu looked at a wonton stand nearby, his mouth watering, and quietly asked Muss, “Big Sister Muss, can I eat that?”
Muss saw that there was enough space at the stall for all of them, and smiled as she pinched Little Yu Yu’s cheek. “Of course, it’s perfect. I love eating this too.”
“That’s wonderful!” Little Yu was overjoyed and looked up at his second uncle, third uncle, and the others.
Wen Jing, Wen Ye, and Muss all readily agreed, nodding.
“Wen Ye, you still owe me a meal, but that doesn’t count today,” Muss said as she sat down first.
“Princess Ming Yue, would you like to join us for a bowl of wontons?” Muss asked, having taken a liking to Jun Ming Yue. She believed the young girl wasn’t the type to be picky.
“Shu Er invited me, so I would be happy to join you, even if it’s just water,” Jun Ming Yue said, sitting down next to Little Yu without hesitation.
The owner of the wonton stand, seeing so many people suddenly sitting down, especially the ones who had just beaten the Duke of Ding’s heir, was trembling as he made the wontons.
The owner was an honest man, and the wontons were made with thin skins and a generous amount of meat. The first bite was incredibly satisfying. Muss, having gotten tired from the earlier fight, ordered another bowl for herself.
After finishing the wontons, Wen Ye, remembering that his wife’s plums had been overturned, shamelessly asked Muss for more. Fortunately, Muss had made extra.
Wanting his wife to have the plums as soon as possible, Wen Ye immediately accompanied Muss back to her house. His wife had been suffering from severe morning sickness and needed those plums. As for the Duke of Ding’s heir, he could wait.
Once back at his residence, Little Yu began crying and asked Wen Zhi, “Daddy, is Yu Er not your child?”
Wen Zhi was baffled. Who had told his son such a thing? He and his wife had a deep bond, and Little Yu was their only child. Who was spreading such rumors about his son?
“Is it because I haven’t been spending enough time with you lately that you’re upset with me?” Wen Zhi asked gently as he hugged Little Yu.
“Daddy, today a bad person said Yu Er is a burden, that third uncle is a gigolo, and what’s a gigolo? Is third uncle too fair?” Little Yu asked, confused.
“Yu Er, tell Daddy, who said these things to you?” Wen Zhi’s face darkened, his anger rising. He needed to know who had said such things to his son.
“Master, the old master sent someone to call you to the study. There’s something urgent,” a maid came in to report.
“Yu Er, go with the maid to see your mother. I have to go to the study to talk to your grandfather about something urgent. I’ll come and keep you company soon,” Wen Zhi said, trying to calm Little Yu, promising he would come back after finishing his work.
“Quickly go, don’t make Grandpa wait, Yu Er will be good and listen to Mother,” Little Yu urged as he heard his grandfather had summoned Wen Zhi.
Wen Zhi reassured Little Yu, then told the maid, “Have Madam ask Little Master in detail what happened this afternoon.”
At the Wen Family Study.
As soon as Wen Jing returned home, he went straight to the study to talk to his father, and after explaining his thoughts, Wen Shou Fu called for his eldest and second sons to come to the study as well.
Wen Zhi had just sat down when his father spoke, “Zhi Er, bring back the secret guards for your third brother. They’ll be assigned to protect him from now on.”
“Father, is there some kind of danger?” Wen Zhi stood up in shock. All of them had secret guards, and his third brother’s health had been deteriorating over the past few years. He hardly ever left the house in the past two years, and the estate was very secure, which was why third brother had dismissed his personal guards.
It was understandable that Wen Zhi was surprised. His immediate reaction was that something had happened to his third brother, which was why his father had suddenly called for the return of the guards.
“Big brother, there’s no danger. It’s just that today, third brother, Miss Mu, and Yu Er were bullied while out in the streets,” Wen Ye answered on behalf of his third brother.
“Who has the audacity to do such a thing? Do they think we’re dead? I’ll write to them right now and demand that they return immediately,” Wen Zhi said angrily. Anyone who dared to bully his third brother would have to answer to him.
“Who else could it be? It’s that reckless and ignorant Duke of Ding’s heir! He called third brother a gigolo, said Yu Er was a burden, and even tried to take Miss Mu as a concubine,” Wen Ye was still seething with anger at the thought.
“Second brother, gather the men. We are going to the Duke of Ding’s residence to demand justice for third brother. My Wen family is not someone the Duke of Ding can bully.”
Wen Zhi’s fury swept through him like a storm. He had been wondering why third brother had wanted to bring back his secret guards, why Yu Er had asked him such questions, and now he understood. The Duke of Ding’s heir had gone too far.
“Big brother, calm down. The Duke of Ding’s heir was probably half-dead already after being beaten by Princess Ming Yue and Muss. It’s no use going there now,” Wen Ye quickly tried to soot his elder brother’s anger.
“Father, we cannot let this matter go just like this. Even if it’s not for third brother and Yu Er, Miss Mu cannot be treated like this,” Wen Zhi was still fuming with rage. Thinking about the family’s long-awaited hope for third brother’s recovery and how they were finally on the right track, he could barely contain his anger.
“Prepare yourselves. Tomorrow morning, we will submit a memorial to the Emperor, accusing the Duke of Ding’s heir of committing violence,” Wen Shou Fu decisively said.
“Father, should we send a message to the Mu family as well?” Wen Zhi asked uncertainly.
“Father, big brother, I’ve already discussed it with Muss. Tomorrow, you two will handle the memorial. Muss and I will go on behalf of third brother and Miss Mu to make the report. Please don’t think less of me for doing so,” Wen Jing said somewhat apologetically.
“Supporting our own people, what’s there to be ashamed of? If there’s anything we can do, just let us know,” Wen Zhi replied, knowing that despite his second brother’s usual unpredictability, he could be relied upon in crucial moments.
“Thank you, father, big brother, and second brother for standing up for me. But this time, I want to go myself,” Wen Jing said, bowing deeply to his father, big brother, and second brother, his voice resolute.
“What did you say?” The three of them spoke in unison, utterly stunned.
“I want to go to the Golden Palace and personally report it to the Emperor!”
