Chapter 6: Treating Uncle Yun Nan!
Rong Qing instinctively followed Mu Rong Shu’s instructions, helping her brother Rong Yun Nan sit upright. Seeing how much pain her brother was in, her tears began streaming uncontrollably.
“Elder Sister, don’t cry. I’m fine, just need some rest,” Rong Yun Nan said weakly, lifting a hand with effort to wipe his sister’s tears.
“Second Aunt, I learned medicine while studying at Tian Men Mountain. If you trust me, may I examine Uncle Yun Nan?”
Mu Rong Shu, having studied asthma, was confident about her assessment of the situation but first sought her Second Aunt’s approval.
“That’s wonderful! Shu Er, please, help your Uncle Yun Nan!”
Hearing that Mu Rong Shu knew medicine, Rong Qing grasped at this lifeline and eagerly agreed.
“Second Aunt, could you please hold Uncle Yun Nan steady in a sitting position? I use a secret method for treatment, so I’ll need you to turn around,” Mu Rong Shu requested, somewhat shyly. The urgency left her no time to disguise the medicine she planned to retrieve from her hidden space.
Without hesitation, Rong Qing turned around and even closed her eyes tightly, fearing she might accidentally glimpse her niece’s secret technique. Song Wei also closed her eyes upon hearing this.
To Mu Rong Shu’s surprise, even Rong Yun Nan cooperated by closing his eyes. Taking advantage of this, she quickly retrieved an asthma spray from her space hospital and administered a few sprays to him.
As the spray took effect, the suffocation and chest tightness Rong Yun Nan was feeling began to ease significantly. His breathing grew steadier, and the pain lessened considerably.
“Uncle Yun Nan, you can open your eyes now. Do you feel much better?” Mu Rong Shu asked confidently, knowing the effectiveness of the hospital-grade medicine she had used.
Hearing her permission, Rong Qing and Song Wei opened their eyes and hurried over to Rong Yun Nan.
“Yun Nan, are you feeling better now? Are you still in pain?” Rong Qing asked anxiously.
“Elder Sister, I’m fine now. Look, I can even move around!” To reassure his sister, Rong Yun Nan deliberately moved his arms.
Seeing that her brother’s complexion had improved and his breathing was back to normal, Rong Qing finally relaxed.
“Shu Er, thank you so much!” Rong Qing said sincerely. She hadn’t seen exactly what her niece had done, but the sound of the spray was unmistakable, it was Shu Er who had saved her brother.
In the past, her brother’s asthma attacks always caused prolonged suffering. She hadn’t expected her niece’s medical skills to be so effective.
“Second Aunt, no need to thank me. I’m just grateful you trusted me to help Uncle Yun Nan,” Mu Rong Shu replied modestly before bowing respectfully to Rong Yun Nan.
Rong Yun Nan was astonished. Looking at his elder sister, he asked uncertainly, “Elder Sister, is this really Shu Er?”
“Yes, this is our elder brother’s daughter, Shu Er. She just returned to the capital today, and she’s already saved you,” Rong Qing confirmed, feeling that Mu Rong Shu was indeed a blessing to their family.
“Since I came out in a rush today, I’ll make sure to send a proper meeting gift to Shu Er later!” Rong Yun Nan said, feeling a bit embarrassed as he fumbled around. Finding only some silver banknotes, he stuffed them all into Mu Rong Shu’s hands.
Mu Rong Shu was stunned. “Is this what they call casually giving out silver notes? Oh my, this feels amazing!”
Seeing her niece frozen in shock, Rong Qing chuckled and reminded her, “Shu Er, take it quickly. Uncle Yun Nan is wealthy, and we’ll make sure he sends an even grander gift later. I’ll personally supervise to ensure it’s valuable enough!”
“Thank you, Uncle Yun Nan!” Mu Rong Shu finally came to her senses. She understood that this amount of money wasn’t significant for the Mu Rong family, but it was still overwhelming for her as someone new to this world.
“Since Uncle Yun Nan has given me so many silver notes, let me take his pulse as well!”
Mu Rong Shu had planned to do this anyway, but the gesture now felt more natural.
“That would be great! Thank you, Shu Er!” Rong Qing said eagerly, stepping aside to let her niece work. Her admiration for Mu Rong Shu was now boundless.
Mu Rong Shu sat down, and Mu Rong Yun Nan cooperatively extended his hand. Without hesitation, she began to check his pulse.
Watching from the side, Song Wei was astonished. Her daughter’s medical skills seemed more impressive than she had imagined. She decided to have a good talk with her daughter later that evening.
Mu Rong Shu felt incredibly grateful for the traditional Chinese medicine she had learned from her grandfather. It was proving invaluable now.
“Uncle Yun Nan, this is allergic asthma, which flares up every spring. Otherwise, your health is generally fine,” Mu Rong Shu concluded seriously after taking his pulse.
“That’s exactly what the doctors have said. Father has sought out many renowned physicians, but none could cure it. Worse, the attacks have become more frequent in recent years,” Rong Qing said, her tone laced with worry.
“Spring time has more allergens. I’ll prepare an emergency medication for Uncle Yun Nan to carry with him, so he can go out as usual. As for a permanent cure, it will require regular herbal treatments for about a year,” Mu Rong Shu explained. She was confident that with her lab’s specialized medicine and the right prescription, the condition could be resolved within that time frame.
“A year? Shu Er, are you saying your Uncle Yun Nan’s condition could be cured in just a year?” Rong Qing asked, almost unable to believe it.
“It might even be a little quicker, but it can’t be less than that. We need to take it step by step, and some of the herbs required will need to be sourced,” Mu Rong Shu explained hurriedly, thinking her aunt might find the duration too long.
Rong Qing and Rong Yun Nan were overjoyed. Rong Yun Nan asked cautiously, “Shu Er, are you saying my condition can be completely cured?”
“Yes! I’ll prepare the emergency medication for you as soon as I return. We’ll just need some time to gather the herbs for the longer-term treatment,” Mu Rong Shu assured him.
“What herbs? Whatever’s needed, just take it from our family pharmacy!”
At that moment, Old Master Mu Rong entered the room, leading the family physician. Hearing talk of herbs, he assumed they were urgently needed and immediately offered his resources.
“Father, you’re here. Second Brother is already feeling much better,” Rong Qing said, stepping forward to greet him and explain the situation.
“He’s better already? How is it so fast? Physician He, quickly, examine him!” Old Master Mu Rong was astonished and gestured for the family doctor to check his son.
The physician, equally surprised to hear that the Second Young Master was already well, quickly sat down to take his pulse.
“Father, this is my sister-in-law and my niece,” Rong Qing said, introducing Song Wei and Mu Rong Shu to her father.
Old Master Mu Rong, who had been preoccupied with worry for his son, now noticed the two guests. He apologized at once, “Madam Mu Rong, Shu Er, my apologies for my earlier rudeness. I was too anxious about Yun Nan.”
“There’s no need to apologize, Master Mu Rong. As parents, we completely understand,” Song Wei said with a polite bow. Her words were sincere, not just a formality.
“Shu Er has grown so much! She’s still such a lovely and well-behaved young lady. Madam Mu Rong and General Mu Rong are truly blessed,” Old Master Mu Rong said warmly.
“Here, take this. This is a meeting gift from your Grandfather Mu Rong!” He pulled a handful of silver notes from his pocket, a sum even larger than what Rong Yun Nan had given earlier and handed them to Mu Rong Shu.
Mu Rong Shu was utterly stunned. “No wonder they’re the wealthiest family in the capital. Who else carries this much cash on hand and gives it away so casually when they’re happy?”
