Chapter 7: Wealthy and Generous Master Mu Rong!
“Master Mu Rong, Second Young Master’s condition is no longer serious. He just needs to continue with the previous prescription,” the family physician said with a bow after examining Rong Yun Nan. Though curious about the rapid recovery, he refrained from asking further questions.
“Thank you, Physician Yuan. Ah Sheng, escort Physician Yuan back to the residence,” Master Mu Rong instructed his attendant.
After the physician left, Rong Qing took the opportunity to recount everything that had transpired to her father.
Upon hearing the story, Master Mu Rong looked at Mu Rong Shu with excitement. “Mu Rong Shu, my dear granddaughter, is it true that your Uncle Yun Nan’s illness can be cured?”
“If there are no unexpected complications, yes. As long as he strictly follows my prescription and takes care to avoid triggers, the illness might not be completely eradicated, but I can guarantee it won’t flare up again,” Mu Rong Shu said with confidence.
“That’s wonderful news! Earlier, I heard you discussing medicinal herbs. Take this anything you need, feel free to use it.”
Master Mu Rong handed Mu Rong Shu the insignia of Mu Rong Family’s largest pharmacy in the capital.
Staring at the token in surprise, Mu Rong Shu hesitated for a moment. “Grandfather Mu Rong, you trust me this much? Aren’t you worried I might be boasting?”
“Hahaha! What’s there to fear? Shu Er is the apprentice of the Taoist from Tian Men Mountain Valley, a master of medicine. Besides, you saved your Uncle Yun Nan today. Treat this token as a meeting gift from your grandfather.”
“Shu Er, quickly accept the token. If you ever need medicinal herbs in the future, you can get them directly. And if the pharmacy doesn’t have what you need, we’ll send people to find it!” Rong Qing urged, worried her niece might refuse.
“Master Mu Rong, isn’t this a bit too generous?” Song Wei finally found a moment to speak. She was slightly worried her daughter might not be able to completely cure Rong Yun Nan, leading to disappointment.
“Madam Mu Rong, please don’t feel burdened. Consider this as a token of good will from an elder to Shu Er,” Master Mu Rong replied, his tone calm yet magnanimous.
“Sister-in-law, let Shu Er accept it. Look at Yun Nan now, he doesn’t even seem like someone who just had an attack. Clearly, Shu Er has real skills. Don’t hold her back,” Rong Qing chimed in, understanding her sister-in-law’s concerns. For the Mu Rong family, after years of watching her brother suffer, the chance of a cure was worth any cost.
“Alright, I’ll accept it for now. I’ll prepare the emergency medication today and deliver it tomorrow. This way, Uncle Yun Nan can move around freely again,” Mu Rong Shu agreed. Seeing the Mu Rong family’s sincerity, she didn’t hesitate further. She would just expedite the preparation of the medicine.
“Wonderful! Thank you, Shu Er. If you need anything, just let your aunt know. As long as it isn’t the moon from the sky, I’ll make sure you have it!” Rong Qing exclaimed, thrilled at the thought of her niece’s dedication.
“In that case, let’s head to the pharmacy now. We can pick out the herbs, and I can start working tonight!” Mu Rong Shu suggested, her enthusiasm evident. Her professional instincts as a healer had kicked in, and she was eager to get to work.
“I’ll go with you! Father, could you escort Second Brother back home? I’ll accompany Sister-in-law and Shu Er to the pharmacy,” Rong Qing said eagerly, unable to contain her excitement.
“Thank you, Qing Er and Shu Er. Be careful on the road, and if you find any herbs lacking, send someone to inform me. I’ll figure something out,” Master Mu Rong replied. Though he wanted to go along, he prioritized his son’s well-being. Knowing his eldest daughter was capable, he felt reassured.
“It’s no trouble at all, Grandfather Mu Rong. With such a generous consultation fee, running errands is nothing!” Mu Rong Shu replied playfully.
“Sister-in-law, look at that! Shu Er is quite the little money-grubber. If we ever need her help again, we’d better prepare a big red envelope in advance!” Rong Qing teased, laughing.
“If Second Aunt is the one asking for something, I definitely won’t give any discounts! After all, Second Aunt is the richest!” Mu Rong Shu teased, clinging to Rong Qing’s arm in a playful act of affection.
“Alright, enough joking. Let’s head to the pharmacy and get the medicine ready for your Uncle Yun Nan as soon as possible. That way, he can feel more at ease,” Song Wei interjected, her tone a mix of trust and slight concern. Although she believed in her daughter’s skills, she was still a bit worried about any delays in treating Rong Yun Nan.
“Uncle Yun nan, Grandfather Mu Rong, we’ll head to the pharmacy now. Please take Uncle Yun Nan back home soon!”
“Alright, take your time on the road. Once you have the medicine, head back early. Shu Er, since you just returned today, let Grandfather come visit you properly another day,” Master Mu Rong replied warmly.
The Mu and Rong families had a close relationship due to their marriage ties. With Mu family wealth and Rong family influence, they often supported one another in the capital.
After the women left, Master Mu Rong suddenly realized he hadn’t asked why they had gathered here today. His daughter’s presence wasn’t surprising, she was involved in managing some family businesses, but he was curious about the others.
He summoned the shopkeeper to inquire about their visit. Upon learning the details, Master Mu waved his hand decisively and ordered all the jewelry they had looked at earlier to be sent to the Mu Rong household.
By the time they returned from the pharmacy, the jewelry had already arrived. The Mu Rong steward, assuming it was something purchased during a shopping trip by the madam and young miss, didn’t think much of it.
Meanwhile, at the pharmacy:
The Mu Rong family’s pharmacy was well-stocked with a wide range of herbs due to their extensive business network. After gathering the necessary ingredients to treat asthma, Mu Rong Shu suddenly thought of the skincare products she had used earlier and decided to make her own batch.
“Second Aunt, I’ve collected all the herbs for Uncle Yun Nan’s treatment. Can I take a few others for something else?”
“Shu Er, are you feeling unwell? Should I take you to see someone?” Song Wei’s face was filled with worry the moment she heard her daughter wanted more herbs, immediately assuming she might be sick.
“Mother, I’m fine! I just need them for another purpose,” Mu Rong Shu quickly explained, realizing her mother had misunderstood.
“You scared me and your aunt to death! Shu Er, take as much as you want, not just today, but anytime in the future,” Rong Qing said with a deep sigh of relief.
“Thank you, Second Aunt! Once I’ve made it, I’ll send you some as well,” Mu Rong Shu replied with a smile.
“Something made by Shu Er must be amazing. I can’t wait!” Rong Qing’s eyes lit up, filled with anticipation at the thought of receiving something her talented niece had made.
“Wait, just your Second Aunt? If I don’t provide the herbs, does that mean I don’t get any?” Song Wei joked with her daughter, feigning indignation.
“How could that be? I was planning to make it for Grandmother, you, and Second Aunt! Of course, you’ll get yours, Mother!” Mu Rong Shu quickly reassured her mother, expressing her filial love.
“Don’t get jealous, Sister-in-law. Shu Er is our shared little treasure,” Rong Qing teased with a grin.
“With you spoiling her, I couldn’t be happier. Why would I get jealous? You two are just impossible,” Song Wei said, pretending to scold them while laughing.
The three women burst into laughter, their bond evident as they playfully bantered with each other.
