Chapter 14: The Sun Rises from the West
As soon as Jiang Mingyue returned, Jiang Wenkai noticed her injured foot and asked worriedly, “Mingyue, what happened to your foot?”
“I accidentally twisted it.”
Her sister-in-law, Zhang Aihua, also worried, “How could you be so careless? It must hurt a lot. Hurry up and go inside to rest. I’ll cook.”
Jiang Mingyue resisted for a long time, but was still helped to her room by her sister-in-law.
The house was a courtyard house, with a large vegetable garden planted on the west side.
Xiaoxue and Jiang Wenkai’s son, Jiang Jieming, were playing with pebbles in the yard.
As the sun set, Jiang Mingyue had never felt so at ease.
However, comfortable days are always short-lived.
Just as the family sat down at the dining table, Luo Mingzhong arrived.
He carried a bag of fruit in one hand and some nutritional supplements in the other.
His arrival interrupted the family’s lively mealtime atmosphere.
Jiang Changxing still harbored resentment towards this son-in-law. Five years had passed, and his daughter had returned with a suitcase, indicating that their relationship was strained.
Coming to their door at this hour probably meant he wanted to take Mingyue back.
Zhao Xuelan was also a little surprised. Since he was a guest, she smiled and said, “Mingzhong is here, come and sit down and eat with us.”
Jiang Wenkai was puzzled by this brother-in-law’s sudden visit.
Regimental Captain Luo was a busy man and rarely came to their house. Why was he bringing gifts today?
Had the sun risen in the west?
Luo Mingzhong found it difficult to call out “Mom and Dad.” Unlike Jiang Mingyue, who had called out “Mom and Dad” so smoothly when she first met his parents, he couldn’t bring himself to say it.
Before Zhao Xuelan could enter the kitchen, Luo Mingzhong said, “No need, I’m here to take Mingyue home.”
Jiang Mingyue’s hand holding the chopsticks paused, and a hint of sarcasm flashed across her lips.
It had been five years, and he hadn’t called out “Mom and Dad” once. Even now that he was here to ask her to return, he was still unwilling to say those words.
Jiang Mingyue put her chopsticks on the bowl, “Go back by yourself. I’ll be back tomorrow morning.”
She didn’t give Luo Mingzhong a glance, her tone firm.
Luo Mingzhong acted as if he didn’t hear her and waved at Xiaoxue, “Xiaoxue, come here. Dad will take you home.”
Xiaoxue pouted. She didn’t like that home at all. She liked her maternal grandparents’ home.
“I won’t go back if Mom doesn’t go back. You all don’t like me. I don’t want to be separated from Mom.”
Zhao Xuelan looked back and forth between the two of them. Why was Xiaoxue talking like that?
Luo Mingzhong frowned and gave Jiang Mingyue a warning look.
Judging by their family’s reaction, they probably didn’t know about their impending divorce.
He cleared his throat and said, “Dad, Mom, actually, I came here this time to talk to you about Mingyue and me.”
Jiang Mingyue’s hand holding the chopsticks tightened. He was doing this on purpose.
Zhao Xuelan immediately became nervous.
“Mingzhong, what’s wrong with you and Mingyue? Did you two have a fight?”
Back then, this girl had practically begged to marry this boy. Now, the neighbors were watching, and he was a regimental commander, so nothing should happen.
Jiang Mingyue was afraid that he would really say it. If her mother got upset, she would feel even more guilty.
She would tell them about the divorce, but definitely not through Luo Mingzhong.
In an instant, Jiang Mingyue felt disgusted.
She said, “Mom, we’re fine. It’s just that Grandma is in the hospital, and I thought it would be easier to take care of her if I lived at home.
How about this, Xiaoxue stays at home, and I’ll go back with him first. Don’t worry, I’ll be back tomorrow at noon.”
Zhao Xuelan was still worried. Maybe it was her imagination, but she felt that her son-in-law’s gaze towards her daughter was off.
“Tell Mom, did you two have a fight?”
Jiang Mingyue cut in front of Luo Mingzhong, “No, Mom, don’t worry.”
Zhao Xuelan was half-convinced. Mingyue was a good child, but she hadn’t gotten pregnant in five years of marriage. She didn’t know which of them had the problem.
She just hoped that the young couple’s relationship was good.
Jiang Changxing, who hadn’t spoken all along, saw Jiang Mingyue get up to leave and said sternly, “Sit down and finish your meal before you go.
Whatever is so urgent that you can’t even eat a hot meal.”
These words were deliberately said to Luo Mingzhong.
In any case, it was good that Jiang Mingyue had agreed to go back.
“I’ll wait for you in the car outside.”
Luo Mingzhong turned and left directly, which made Jiang Changxing angry. Jiang Wenkai was also angry.
If it weren’t for his sister’s sake, he would have cursed him out.
What kind of thing had she married? So aloof, who was he trying to impress?
Jiang Wenkai was also holding back a burst of anger. Jiang Mingyue had no appetite to eat.
Zhang Aihua said worriedly, “How about I go back with you?”
“It’s okay, sister-in-law, don’t worry.”
Jiang Mingyue slowly finished a bowl of rice before getting up.
Xiaoxue was a little sad and ran after her, grabbing Jiang Mingyue’s hand from behind.
“Mom, I’ll go with you. I don’t want to be separated from Mom.”
These words made Jiang Mingyue’s heart ache.
She squatted down and gently stroked Xiaoxue’s forehead.
“Be good, sweetheart. Stay at home and play with Brother Jieming. Mom will be back tomorrow, okay?”
“Okay, Mom, I love you. I’ll always, always love you. You have to come back.”
Xiaoxue sniffled. Although the child was young, she knew who was good to her and who was bad to her.
Her eyes were wet, and she leaned forward to kiss Jiang Mingyue’s cheek before obediently returning to her seat to eat.
This child was like her. Lin Jinghua and Luo Zhizhi often gave her the cold shoulder, but she was still very well-behaved.
Looking at such a vibrant child, Jiang Mingyue felt that she had to get a divorce, even if it was just for Xiaoxue’s sake.
Coincidentally, she remembered that in her previous life, Wen Ning had used a cold as an excuse to call Luo Mingzhong to her house in the past few days. When she rushed over, she didn’t know what had happened between the two of them, but Luo Mingzhong’s cheeks were flushed, as if he had been drugged.
If she could find a witness to see this scene, the success rate of the divorce would only be higher.
With this in mind, she was even more certain.
Luo Mingzhong frowned when he saw her limping out of the door.
What was she up to now?
Trying to gain sympathy?
“What’s wrong with your leg?”
“None of your business.”
Her tone was cold and devoid of warmth, which choked Luo Mingzhong. He still helped her open the passenger door, but she acted as if she didn’t see it and opened the back door herself.
He didn’t know what was good for him. If she didn’t want to sit there, then so be it.
He slammed the passenger door shut with a deafening sound, got into the car angrily, and stepped on the gas, causing her forehead to almost hit the front seat.
Neither of them paid attention to each other. When they returned, she got out of the car and walked to the door. She heard Luo Zhizhi and Wen Ning talking inside.
“Sister Wen Ning, you’re so good to us. The buns you made are so delicious. My brother likes you so much. Once they get divorced tomorrow, my brother will definitely marry you.”
“Zhizhi, don’t talk nonsense. Brother Luo is such a good person. Even if Jiang Mingyue can’t have children, Brother Luo is such a responsible person that he will take care of her until she dies.”
Jiang Mingyue sneered and didn’t lift her foot to go inside.
However, Luo Mingzhong couldn’t stand it after hearing that.
Bang—
He kicked open the door and strode inside.
