Chapter 4: Evil Intentions, Bitten by a Snake

Cheng Yuanyue wasn’t just obedient—her looks were also considered top-tier in Tianxiang Village.

Wu Tianyou had long been coveting her.

He never found the chance to touch her before, but after getting into a fight with Cheng Jiafu, he unexpectedly got this “opportunity.”

Just the thought that such a sweet, obedient girl would soon become his woman made his whole body burn with excitement.

“Little Sister Ayuan, today happens to be market day. Why don’t I take you into town and buy you some pretty clothes you like?” Wu Tianyou smiled, reaching to grab her hand.

Qin Fang, hearing this, grinned so wide her eyes nearly disappeared.
“Ayuan, look at how thoughtful Tianyou is. You two just got engaged, and he already wants to spoil you. There’s nothing much to do at home today—go have fun with him.”

“Yes, you two go. Don’t worry about the chores.”

Yuanyue shyly lowered her head. She glanced at her dirt-stained hands and gave an apologetic smile.
“I just came back from the mountain. Let me wash my hands first, then I’ll go with you.”

This Wu Tianyou really was a fool.

Seeing that she didn’t resist him—or show any dislike—Wu Tianyou was over the moon.

To be honest, being with such a “good girl” always made him feel like a big bad wolf bullying a little white rabbit. And the thought of the rabbit falling into his hands made his steps float with excitement.

Yuanyue washed her hands and changed into clean clothes before coming out.

Wu Tianyou looked at her fresh, delicate face, lips curling in satisfaction.

He patted the back seat of his bicycle.
“Ayuan, hop on. I’ll take you to the market.”

With a light leap, Yuanyue sat down.

Watching the two ride away, Shen Xiuying and Qin Fang shared knowing smiles.

Ayuan agreeing to “date” Wu Tianyou meant she wouldn’t pursue the matter of her brother’s fight anymore.

“Come on, let’s hurry and pick Jiafu up. He’s been locked up all day—he must be starving and exhausted.” Qin Fang clapped her hands together, urging Shen Xiuying to move faster.

“Yes, bringing Jiafu home is what matters most.”

Leaving their chores behind, the couple grabbed Wu Tianyou’s letter of leniency and rushed straight to the police station.

Meanwhile, Wu Tianyou pedaled with extra strength, bubbling with excitement.

“Ayuan, don’t worry. With me, you’ll never suffer a loss.” He veered off into a narrow path.

Few people ever passed here. Wu Tianyou stopped the bicycle, saying he was tired and wanted to rest.

Yuanyue pursed her lips, feigning hesitation.

“There’s a big tree up ahead. Let’s sit there for a while—it’s cooler,” Wu Tianyou coaxed, his heart pounding at the thought of what was about to happen.

Yuanyue nodded lightly.

He parked the bicycle, then led the way while she followed behind.

The old tree was tall and leafy, its shade thick. If someone sat against the trunk, no passerby would notice.

After scanning the area—completely deserted—Wu Tianyou sat down on the most hidden side and patted the spot beside him.
“Ayuan, it’s nice and cool here. Come sit.”

Yuanyue glanced around, her eyes flickering with a hint of unease.
“Tianyou, it’s so quiet here… it feels a little scary.”

“We’re just cooling off—what do we need other people for?” Wu Tianyou chuckled, his voice laced with coaxing patience. “Come, you’ll know what real ‘cool’ feels like soon.”

After a moment of pretending to think, Yuanyue sat down—but kept half a meter of space between them.

Wu Tianyou smirked, inching closer. He reached out, eager to wrap his arm around her slender waist—

—but before he could touch her, a sharp pain tore through his palm.

Looking down, he froze in terror.

A venomous green snake had clamped onto his hand, its glowing eyes staring at him with eerie defiance.

“AHHH!” Wu Tianyou screamed, leaping up and shaking his arm wildly.

But the snake refused to let go, its fangs buried deep.

“Help! Help me!!” He stumbled, rolling and crawling frantically toward the path, shrieking in terror.

Just then, a passerby from the neighboring village rushed over, shocked to see the snake latched onto Wu Tianyou’s hand.

Sensing another presence, the snake finally released its bite and slithered away into the grass.

Wu Tianyou collapsed, unconscious, and had to be carried to the village clinic.

Once they left, Yuanyue slowly stepped out from behind the tree.

Her lips curved into a cold smile.

In her hand dangled the limp, lifeless body of that same green viper.

Forgot to mention—her father in her past life had been a forest ranger. She’d grown up in the mountains, never fearing poisonous insects or snakes.

Catching snakes with her bare hands? Child’s play.

Wu Tianyou’s bad luck—he just happened to pick a spot where a deadly pit viper lay in hiding.

She tossed the snake into the grass, then pushed Wu Tianyou’s bicycle back toward the village.

But when the villagers saw her coming, they instinctively stepped back several meters.

Everyone knew:
—Wu Tianyou had demanded 500 yuan in compensation for Cheng Jiafu’s fight.
—The Cheng family, too poor to pay, had wanted to marry Ayuan off to Boss Qiao for his bride price.
—But before the wedding, Boss Qiao suddenly died.
—So they had no choice but to hand Ayuan over to Wu Tianyou, in exchange for his forgiveness.

And now—less than an hour later—Wu Tianyou had been bitten by a venomous snake.

First the fiancé died.
Then the new suitor nearly died.
All in a single day.

Good heavens—what kind of fate was this girl carrying?

Who would dare marry her now?

“You jinx! Stay away from my son!” Wu Tianyou’s mother, Liu Shuhong, shrieked. “You killed Boss Qiao, and now you’ve nearly killed my boy. If anything happens to him, I won’t let you off!”

Yuanyue only blinked innocently.
“Tianyou said he wanted to rest under a tree. Who knew there was a snake hiding there? He didn’t see it, and that’s why it bit him.”

The villagers exchanged looks—what more needed to be said?

Everyone understood what had really happened: Wu Tianyou had wanted to take advantage of Ayuan. But the spot he chose just happened to conceal a poisonous snake.

Some even muttered inwardly: Serves him right.
