Lu Chen stared at her face. It was exactly the same as the shameless, audacious woman from his memory. These past few nights, every time he closed his eyes, the scene from that day replayed itself.
That woman had dared to take advantage of him just because she once saved him—bold to the point of recklessness. She had even taken his watch and tossed him a cheap hairpin in exchange.
He had originally planned to stay here for one night, then head back to the place where he was injured, hoping to find that brazen, shameless woman again.
He never expected heaven to drop her right at his doorstep.
Cheng Yuanyue beamed at him brightly.
“Sir, this is really a misunderstanding. I live next door. Just as I was opening my door, I saw someone dump an unconscious woman into your room. I’ve always had a chivalrous heart—I can’t stand to see a weak girl bullied, so I wanted to check on her. Who knew the door would open with just a push? So I walked in. And then you came back. That woman really has nothing to do with me, you can investigate if you want. Truly!”
Lu Chen’s gaze fell on her lips as they opened and closed, and he suddenly remembered the way those very lips had left countless marks on his body that night.
Just thinking about it made his body heat up for no reason.
This woman truly was a temptress. Whether she was in front of him or not, she could make him recall everything that happened in that cave.
He pinched her chin and sneered.
“A coincidence, huh? Or is it that you just wanted to crawl into my bed again? What, one night in the cave wasn’t enough—you’ve come back for more?”
Cheng Yuanyue’s eyes went wide.
What? He recognized her?
But he’d had a fever, hadn’t he been delirious? Besides, she’d gone out of her way to dress differently today—yet he still recognized her.
Good. Better that he did.
She wasn’t afraid of being found out—what she feared was him not realizing who she was. She had left that hairpin for him on purpose, after all, just so he’d have a clue to find her again.
She didn’t want to die early. She didn’t want to be cannon fodder.
And this was the male lead—the biggest golden thigh of them all. If she didn’t cling to him, she’d be stupid.
With a sheepish laugh, she said, “Ah, so it really was you. Who would’ve thought fate would tie us together like this. Last time I saved you, and now I’ve saved you again. Surely you won’t treat your savior like this, right?”
“You saved me today?” Lu Chen chuckled.
“Of course! If you hadn’t realized someone was in your room just now, you would’ve fallen right into their trap. When that drugged girl’s condition flared up, don’t tell me you wouldn’t have reacted. Someone tried to set you up, and I helped you avoid it. If you think about it, I saved you again.”
Lu Chen listened to her nonsense, then let her go.
Cheng Yuanyue gave an awkward “hehe” laugh.
“Anyway, about that day, don’t take it to heart. My family wanted to marry me off to some old man. The thought of serving him for the rest of my life disgusted me. So I figured—better to find a man I liked and spend one night together. If I got lucky and had a child, at least I’d have some hope for the future.”
Lu Chen’s brows furrowed.
“So you slept with me, and then planned to carry my child while marrying that old man?”
“I didn’t mean that—I’m just giving an example. An example, you know?” She waved her hands frantically. Honestly, that day he had been burning with fever; even if she had gotten pregnant, she’d have doubted whether the child would even survive.
“Woman, you’ve got guts. Sleep with me and then plan to marry someone else with my child in your belly? If you want to die, just say the word—I’ll grant your wish. If you dare marry that old man, I’ll kill you first, then kill him.” His voice was cold, but for some reason he was furious at her words.
She sniffed. “No need. My life is tough—he didn’t even make it to the wedding before I jinxed him to death.”
“So, you came here tonight intending to sleep with me again until you got pregnant. Who are you planning to marry this time?” His eyes glinted dangerously.
“I don’t know yet. Someone brought me to the room next door, told me that if I pleased the man inside, I’d have a life of luxury afterward.”
Lu Chen narrowed his eyes, half-believing her story.
“You really can’t sit still, huh. So desperate to get married—what, without a man you’ll die?”
Cheng Yuanyue glared. This dog of a man—was this really the male lead? Why was his mouth so poisonous? No wonder the heroine fell for him—she sure had weird taste.
If he weren’t the male lead, if he weren’t the one who could change her cannon-fodder fate, she wouldn’t even give him a second glance.
Irritation flared, and she shoved him hard, knocking him onto the bed before straddling him.
“That’s right. I like tall, handsome men, and when I see one, I just can’t help myself. We’re not strangers anymore, are we? Last time you were sick and I did all the work. This time, it’s your turn. If you manage to satisfy me, maybe I’ll change my mind and marry you instead.”
Lu Chen hadn’t expected her to be so strong—one push and he was flat on the bed.
Maybe she really was doomed to die soon—if so, he might as well indulge in the moment.
Their bodies pressed together, the bed creaked and dipped beneath them.
One above, one below—their posture was as intimate as it got.
He tried to flip her, but she pinned his arms so tightly he couldn’t move.
Was she a wrestler? Why was she so ridiculously strong?
“Woman, let me go. If you keep messing around, don’t blame me for what happens next,” he growled.
“And what exactly will you do to me?” Cheng Yuanyue shifted her hips slightly. His rock-hard muscles pressed uncomfortably against her.
Feeling her movements, Lu Chen’s face darkened like the bottom of a pot.
This woman really had no shame. Did she have a death wish?
“If you keep moving, I swear I’ll cripple you right here and now.”
She blinked at him, utterly unfazed. “Oh? What’s the matter—don’t tell me you’re not up to it. Fever ruined your body, hmm?”
No man could stand being told he wasn’t capable.
With one swift move, he flipped her under him and pinched her chin.
“If you want to die, just say it—I’ll grant your wish.”
Cheng Yuanyue batted her eyes pitifully.
“Sir, I don’t have a choice. I only have three months left to live. In those last three months, I just want to enjoy myself, live however I please. If you don’t want to, that’s fine. I’ll just head next door—the factory director should be back soon. I can always find him instead.”
Lu Chen sneered.
This woman’s face had to be made of masks—changing by the second.
Only three months left to live? Wants to indulge herself before she dies?
Fine then. He’d grant her wish.
