Before Cheng Yuanyue could react, she felt the change in Lu Chen’s body.
She wasn’t exactly an innocent little girl, so of course she understood what was happening.
Her face instantly flushed red, like a cooked shrimp.
She could talk big, but in truth, she wasn’t that bold.
“That… if you don’t want to, then forget it. Let me go, I’ll leave.”
The man’s bloodshot eyes made him look like a furious wolf.
Three months later or right now, she could tell the difference—if she didn’t run, her little life might really end here.
“Now you’re scared? Too late.”
In his rage, Lu Chen pinned both her hands above her head, lowered his face, and sealed her lips with his.
The instant her soft lips met his, both their minds went blank.
Unlike that chaotic, fever-driven kiss in the cave, this time, though clumsy at first, his movements slowly turned gentle.
At first, Cheng Yuanyue was terrified—scared this male lead would actually kill her.
But the falling kisses made her instinctively close her eyes, her arms somehow hooking around his neck, quietly responding.
Dreams from the past few nights overlapped with reality, and Lu Chen’s breathing grew heavier. The two were just about to completely lose themselves, body and soul entwined—
—when a sharp scream suddenly rang out from the next room.
Cheng Yuanyue shoved him away, heart pounding. Don’t tell me the man next door died? Could it be that I really have a jinxed fate—whoever touches me is doomed?
Lu Chen, however, was far from amused. He grabbed her again, glaring into her eyes.
“Trying to back out? You walked into my room on your own. You lit this fire yourself. Now you want to leave? No way.”
“Something’s happening next door, shouldn’t you go check?” she asked nervously, glancing toward the wall.
That scream had been so loud—she didn’t believe he hadn’t heard it.
“What’s it got to do with me? Focus.”
The thought that someone had tried to stuff another woman into his room tonight only made the fire in his chest burn hotter. He lowered his head and bit down on her lips again.
Seeing he didn’t care, Cheng Yuanyue stopped caring too.
It wasn’t like they hadn’t done this before. Do it one more time, and she’d profit one more time. No loss.
Last time, Lu Chen had been burning with fever and she had done all the work. Aside from experiencing his strength, the rest hadn’t been great.
But this time, it was as if he was trying to reclaim his pride—he didn’t hold back in the slightest.
She was nearly tormented to the point of biting her own lip bloody.
The guesthouse’s walls weren’t thick, and she didn’t dare make a sound.
This damn man… where’s all that noble restraint the book described? In reality, he’s just another dog blinded by lust.
When it was finally over, she didn’t even want to lift a finger.
Who would’ve thought—Cheng Yuanyue, actually having such a good time.
And with the novel’s future big-shot male lead, no less.
Lu Chen glanced at her, only to find her lying in bed, smiling foolishly. His brief pang of guilt for being too rough instantly turned to anger. Damn it, I’ve fallen into her trap again.
Just then, someone knocked on the door.
“Mr. Lu, the unidentified woman we found in your room earlier is awake. Do you want to see her?”
Hearing that, Cheng Yuanyue immediately yanked the quilt over herself and buried her face inside.
Lu Chen looked at her hiding like a shy little rabbit and sneered inwardly. Weren’t you fearless just now? Now you know shame?
“Keep an eye on her. I’ll be there shortly,” he ordered.
The man outside left.
Cheng Yuanyue quickly tidied herself up, flashing Lu Chen a sheepish grin.
“Sir, you’re really something. I’m very satisfied. Since you’ve got business to attend to, I’ll take my leave. Here’s hoping we never meet again.”
Seeing her try to slip away, Lu Chen yanked her back.
“After sleeping with me, you think you can just run?”
“No need. I don’t need you to take responsibility. You’re tall, handsome, and skilled. I didn’t lose anything.”
The more she spoke, the darker his face grew.
“What’s your name?”
“Cheng Yuanyue.”
“Where are you from?”
She rolled her eyes slyly. “Tianxiang Village.”
“Stay here and wait. If I come back and you’re gone—you’re dead.”
“What are you planning to do?” she asked warily. Something about his tone didn’t sit right.
“It was consensual. Nothing serious. Don’t take it to heart.”
Responsibility? Surely not.
She’d only slept with the male lead twice. Could that really change the entire plot?
“Of course I’m settling accounts.” His gaze turned cold. “I’ll bring food when I return.”
Cheng Yuanyue was left speechless.
What the hell is this?
Still, she nodded obediently. “Sure, sure.”
But the moment he left, she scribbled a quick note and slipped away.
Next door, a cleaner was mopping blood from the floor.
“Auntie, I heard a scream earlier. What happened?”
“A guest slipped in the bathroom, hit his head and hand. Bled a lot. They just sent him to the hospital. Poor guy—imagine hurting yourself so badly just from a bath.”
Cheng Yuanyue’s eyes flickered. Slipped? And that badly?
So her marriage arrangement really was ruined now.
Leaving the guesthouse, she pondered her next steps—when Liu Shuhong appeared, face full of glee, as if something wonderful had happened.
“I knew you weren’t ordinary. That He Shenhua barely returned to his room half an hour before slipping and splitting his head open, breaking his hand too!”
She stuffed a hundred yuan into Yuanyue’s hand. “Your marriage is ruined, but it’s not your fault—just his bad luck. Don’t mention this at home, or else I won’t forgive you.”
Apparently, Liu Shuhong had no idea what really happened. To her, it was simply an accident in the bath.
But wait—something wasn’t right.
Liu Shuhong had sent her into He Shenhua’s room to curry favor, hadn’t she? Yet she seemed more thrilled than anything.
“Auntie… you’re not going to cause trouble for my family, are you?”
“You’ve done us a huge favor. For now, I’ll leave your family alone. You really are something—anyone who gets involved with you ends up half-dead.”
Yuanyue scratched her head in embarrassment. “Must be my unlucky birth chart.”
“That’s enough. I’ve got more to do. Get yourself home.”
Liu Shuhong hurried off, clearly excited to tell her elder brother. With He Shenhua now badly injured, he was out of the running for factory director—a problem solved just by sending Yuanyue in.
First time in the county town, Cheng Yuanyue looked around at the bustling streets.
With money in hand, there was no rush to go home.
Might as well take a stroll, and maybe spot some business opportunities.
