Chapter 41: That Woman’s Really Fierce
When Xie Mingcheng got home after school, he was thin and lanky, sitting on a small stool with his head down, not even calling out to his sister — completely gloomy.
Xie Yunshu let out a sigh and slapped him on the head: “You little brat, your sister works hard cooking and earning money, and you still dare to show me that attitude?”
“I didn’t,” Xie Mingcheng said gloomily. He stood up, already taller than Yunshu by a head, though his shoulders weren’t broad yet. He carefully set the bowls and chopsticks before quietly asking, “Did that guy come? Are you going back?”
It wasn’t surprising he thought this way. He knew how good his sister was to Lu Zhixing, and though she kept saying she wanted a divorce, if that man came back, she might soften…
“Go back? You think I’m ashamed to live with my own family and it bothers you?” Xie Yunshu snorted, putting a big piece of meat into Li Fenlan’s bowl. “Mom, eat more. Later Mingcheng can wash the dishes so he stops spouting nonsense all day.”
Xie Mingcheng immediately looked up, his fair face showing a bit of hope: “You’re not going back?”
“Go back to slap Lu Zhixing twice more?” Yunshu lazily stretched her legs. Her mood was pretty good. She glanced sideways at Mingcheng: “I can’t beat that grown man. What if he hits me back?”
Mingcheng’s usually cold and serene face instantly turned furious: “If he dares to lay a hand on you, I’ll beat him to death!”
This wasn’t fake anger — it was real, sharp wrath.
Yunshu’s heart skipped a beat. She suddenly remembered Mingcheng’s bad fate in a dream and immediately put on a serious face: “Only thugs fight all the time! Xie Mingcheng, don’t go hitting people recklessly. If you’ve got the ability, get into college and stand taller, then stomp those people under your feet. Being a fighter doesn’t make you a hero.”
The anger vanished from Mingcheng’s eyes instantly. He knew Yunshu wouldn’t leave, so he sighed in relief and ate a few bites, then muttered softly: “The one who loves to fight the most in this whole building is obviously my sister…”
Xie Yunshu sneered: “After you eat, go wash dishes, then go to the inner room to study. No TV tomorrow night!”
The winter holiday exam was coming soon. Even if Yunshu didn’t say it, Mingcheng wouldn’t waste time watching TV. He wasn’t a kid and had strong self-discipline, never slackening in his studies.
But Mingcheng didn’t watch TV; upstairs, Lin Cuiping couldn’t sit still. After working the packaging line all day and listening to others talk about Journey to the West — apparently the grand finale was coming tomorrow.
That bastard Xie Yunshu had taken her fountain pen and still wouldn’t let her watch TV. This was too much! Did they think Lin Cuiping was easy to bully, scared of her?
Ha, she used to be jealous that Yunshu married Lu Zhixing, but now looking at that Lu Zhixing, he’s no good. Sure, he looks good, but he’s got mistresses on the side — a real disgrace to socialism.
Good thing she didn’t go to the blind date. Yunshu deserves it — always so fierce.
Lin Cuixiang was still hurriedly eating rice. After finishing, she pushed the bowl and grabbed her brother to leave: “Mom, I’m going to Yunshu’s house to watch TV!”
“It’s only a few o’clock, have you finished your homework?”
Lin Jie grabbed her little braid, annoyed: “Tomorrow’s no going. Dr. Lu came to see Yunshu. I guess he’s here to pick her up, so don’t go making a fuss.”
Although everyone said Yunshu was determined to divorce, now the doctor came in person to pick her up, meaning the man had yielded. Going back wouldn’t be so humiliating. Better to live with the Lu family than to sell boxed meals in the rain and wind.
If Li Fenlan cared about her daughter, she’d probably try to reconcile them.
Maybe the whole family was eating and chatting together now — why go watch TV?
Lin Cuixiang pouted: “But tomorrow is the finale! They’re about to get the scriptures!”
“Go upstairs to Aunt Zhang’s place and watch!” Lin Jie glared at her. How could this kid be so clueless?
But having seen the color TV, who would want to watch the black-and-white TV?
Lin Cuixiang and Lin Xiaohu exchanged a sad look and still wanted to go downstairs to watch. Lin Jie got mad and was about to slap her when the eldest daughter suddenly spoke:
“Mom, Dr. Lu already left. Yunshu definitely isn’t going home with him!”
Not only did he leave, but Yunshu slapped him away. That woman’s really fierce!
Lin Jie was stunned: “How do you know?”
Could she admit that she secretly followed Yunshu to see her begging the man, then come back to laugh at her, only to lose a fountain pen and break out in cold sweat?
But comparing, Yunshu usually didn’t hit her hard. When she was hit, it was mostly on the top of her head or kicked in the butt, never slapped hard…
Well, seeing Yunshu’s strength, she didn’t want to experience that.
“I saw Lu Zhixing leave. Anyway, Yunshu is definitely going to divorce. The TV’s never going back!” Lin Cuiping was sure of this. The man kept mistresses on the side — why would she give him the TV? They should clear out the whole Lu family!
Lin Jie thought about it and looked at Lin Cuiping: “You’re still hung up on Dr. Lu? Let me tell you, even if Yunshu divorces, it’s not your turn! The Lu family is high-class, not for anyone. Marriage is about matching status — too high, you get wronged; too low, you suffer poverty.”
“Look at Yunshu — capable and pretty. If she married an ordinary worker, life would be prosperous, not losing her job over nonsense.”
Lin Cuiping heard nothing and just heard her mom praise Yunshu’s looks, so she retorted: “She’s not pretty, just whiter, taller, and bigger eyes. I’m no worse…”
Lin Xiaohu quietly added: “Big sister, you don’t have Yunshu’s fairness, nor her big eyes, nor her slim figure…”
“Get lost, go do your homework!”
Lin Cuiping got angry and embarrassed. She couldn’t beat Yunshu, nor handle her younger siblings.
Lin Cuixiang and Lin Xiaohu drooped their heads over their homework. Their minds were elsewhere, and after a while, they barely wrote a few words. Lin Jie was about to lose it when the door was knocked open.
Xie Yunshu, wearing a bright red down jacket with hands in pockets, smiled and greeted Lin Jie, then looked at the two kids doing homework: “Tomorrow’s the Journey to the West finale — finish your homework and come watch.”
They immediately wrote enthusiastically, as if inspired.
Lin Cuiping deliberately put on a displeased face — she needed some pride!
Xie Yunshu sneered and glanced at her: “Lin Cuiping, aren’t you coming?”
You bastard, who said yesterday you wouldn’t let her watch TV?
Lin Cuiping snorted coldly: “Not interested!”
“Oh.” Yunshu didn’t get angry. She turned and slowly went downstairs. “Keep the fountain pen…”
She hits people like a robber!
Lin Cuiping stomped angrily and chased after her: “Xie Yunshu, you stole my pen and won’t let me watch TV. What’s wrong with you?”
