Chapter 51: Food Made by Beautiful People Tastes Better
The security guard had already seen her yesterday and was deeply impressed by this pretty young lady. He had already received instructions from above and immediately opened the small door warmly: “Come in, Manager Tian said just leave the lunchboxes on the first floor.”
Empty lunchboxes wouldn’t say anything, but she couldn’t carry them all by herself. Fully loaded with food, she didn’t have that much strength.
Xie Yunshu thanked him, then rode the tricycle quickly toward the two-story building. Because she still had to go out and sell food later, she pedaled fast. Wearing a red down jacket, she looked like a blazing fire from afar, rushing this way.
Shen Subai stood at the doorway, still wearing the same green camo pants from yesterday, with a thick padded jacket on top, and black leather boots covering his long legs. His sharply defined face and tall, upright posture gave off a cool, aloof aura.
If not for that cold, cutting temperament, he would surely attract many young girls.
But Xie Yunshu wasn’t one of them—she neither feared nor was attracted to him. She jumped off the tricycle and naturally said, “Comrade, are you here to help me carry the lunchboxes? Stop standing there and lend a hand, I still have to go out and sell food!”
On the tricycle was a big insulated box, neatly packed with thirty-two lunchboxes. Xie Yunshu struggled to carry it, her big, shiny black eyes staring at Shen Subai without letting go.
Using him as a laborer?
Shen Subai narrowed his long eyes slightly, shifting his gaze away from her overly beautiful face. With a couple of easy strides, he lifted the insulated box effortlessly and placed it steadily on the table outside the first floor.
Xie Yunshu silently admired him—this tall guy wasn’t just tall, he was strong!
“Thanks, comrade!” She jumped back on the tricycle and gave Shen Subai a grateful smile, her bright face like the morning glow. “I’m in a hurry, I’ll come back to collect the lunchboxes around 1:30.”
Shen Subai grabbed her tricycle with one hand, his voice serious: “You need to always pay attention to safety on the construction site. No matter how urgent, don’t recklessly ride the vehicle around. Also, you must strictly ensure hygiene with your food. If anything goes wrong, you’ll be responsible!”
Xie Yunshu blinked. She hadn’t even done anything yet and was already being scolded?
But since it was their turf and their money, what could she say? She just held her breath and nodded, “Comrade, I’ll pay attention.”
Shen Subai didn’t let go and added in a low voice, “Not only hygiene, but you must strictly follow the standards on your menu. No unauthorized substitutions unless there’s a special reason. If I catch any cutting corners or hygiene problems, not only will the project department’s meals be affected, but you won’t be allowed to sell outside the site either. Understand?”
The project department hadn’t earned a cent yet, and now the outside business was being threatened! The man’s face was stern and his tone harsh, like he was lecturing her!
Did he think she was that easy to bully? That she’d be scared of him?
Alright, she really did fear the business failing…
Xie Yunshu gritted her teeth and cursed a bit inside, then put on an even brighter smile: “Just trust me to handle things. I guarantee you’ll want more after eating these lunchboxes!”
Shen Subai’s brows twitched imperceptibly. The girl’s face was pale and shining, her smile was charming, but somehow he read a few words from that pretty face:
Deceptive words, insincere heart.
Her eyes clearly showed discontent, probably cursing him inside, yet she still smiled pleasantly…
He wasn’t exactly repulsed by her, strangely enough. He smiled faintly and softened his tone a little: “Don’t promise too much. There are so many people in the project department, and everyone has different tastes. You just need to guarantee cleanliness and meet quality and quantity standards.”
A one-yuan lunchbox didn’t demand much. He was always cautious, especially since the site was in a sensitive phase and high-level officials were coming for inspections soon.
Food might seem trivial, but any problem would be a big issue. That’s why he reminded her—he wasn’t trying to make things difficult or threaten her.
Of course, no need to explain all this to her.
Xie Yunshu was still in a rush to sell food, so she nodded calmly and pedaled her tricycle fast outside the site. Her long ponytail whipped behind her, carrying the scent of soap bubbles that drifted into Shen Subai’s nose.
He frowned, then turned and climbed the steps. Looking at the neatly arranged lunchboxes in the insulated box, he casually opened one. A flash of surprise crossed his eyes.
Inside the aluminum lunchbox were two dishes: stir-fried pork with tofu and scrambled eggs with green peppers, with a full serving of rice underneath. Just the aroma alone made one’s mouth water, and the portions were especially generous—probably more than enough for a girl.
At that moment, Tian Hao came downstairs. Seeing the lunchboxes, he looked out and said, “Brother Shen, is the young lady in a hurry?”
Shen Subai’s frown deepened: “Not ‘young lady,’ just call her by her name. If careless people overhear, what impression would they get?”
Tian Hao chuckled after being scolded: “She looks barely over twenty, what else can I call her? Besides, I don’t even know her name! Tsk tsk, food made by such a pretty person must taste good. I’ll tell everyone to come get some!”
Food made by a pretty person tastes better?
Shen Subai glanced at the insulated box. He never cared about looks and had encountered many girls before. Those who were prettier were often delicate and pampered—many couldn’t even cook properly, let alone make tasty food.
So he doubted: was this lunch really made by her?
While Xie Yunshu was selling food enthusiastically outside, project staff gradually came to collect lunchboxes.
Tian Hao took out two boxes and found two small jars in between. Opening them, he saw chili oil and pickled vegetables. He raised his eyebrows: “Brother Shen, are these extras? I didn’t order these.”
The chili oil smelled fragrant. As soon as it opened, people came over sniffing: “Manager Tian, today’s food is so good! There’s meat and eggs, plus separate chili and pickles!”
“Yeah, I just opened one and the smell is amazing. With chili and pickles, I could eat two more buns!”
“No buns, but the rice portion is enough to fill you up!”
A faint smile flickered in Shen Subai’s eyes. Whether or not the girl made the food herself, it did seem pretty good so far. He just wondered how long she could keep this up.
He had met many business people—starting honest but gradually cutting corners over time. A lunchbox business making a few dozen yuan a day could save a bit here and there to make extra profit.
“When collecting lunchboxes, sign an agreement,” Shen Subai said, carrying a box upstairs to the office. He still had a safety meeting with the contractors later, so he left the agreement to Tian Hao to handle.
