Chapter 61: Lu Zhixing Signed the Papers
The person who pulled Xie Yunshu back was Shen Subai. He was at the court handling some business when he just happened to witness the scene.
The person opposite was Lu Zhixing, so he immediately guessed they were there for a divorce lawsuit. At that moment, he seemed to understand why she insisted on divorcing.
After stepping back, Xie Yunshu looked at Shen Subai with surprise and gratitude: “Captain Shen? What are you doing here?”
Shen Subai replied briefly, “Just passing by, nothing important.”
He had no intention of staying long, only glanced coldly at Lu Zhixing and Zhou Xiuyue, who was still clutching Lu Zhixing’s clothes, a flicker of barely perceptible sarcasm in his eyes, then strode into the court.
The security guard at the door immediately saluted him and didn’t ask for registration, clearly recognizing Shen Subai.
Lu Zhixing suddenly let go of Xie Yunshu, looking helplessly at her with a stammering voice, “Yunshu… I was just concerned because Xiuyue was too close…”
He wanted to say that his heart belonged to her, that he didn’t do it on purpose, but those words held no conviction. Even Lu Zhixing felt ashamed to finish, or rather, even he was confused how in that fleeting moment he subconsciously chose Zhou Xiuyue.
Perhaps it was simply because Zhou Xiuyue’s terrified scream was louder, while Yunshu said nothing?
In his heart, Zhou Xiuyue, having endured such hardship, was far more fragile than Xie Yunshu, and thus more in need of help. He just chose the weaker one…
Xie Yunshu didn’t say anything for a long while, then slowly smiled at Lu Zhixing.
Winter daylight was short; the morning glow to the west gradually faded. The afterglow shone on Xie Yunshu, who spoke clearly and deliberately: “Lu Zhixing, you really disgust me.”
Lu Zhixing stared blankly at her, his expression shattered. He wanted to say he was wrong, but nothing came out — not even the words “don’t divorce.”
Zhou Xiuyue’s heart sank. She timidly bit her lip: “Sorry, maybe I was wrong again. That car just now was going very fast, I was worried it would hit Yunshu.”
Lu Xueting immediately jumped out angrily: “Xie Yunshu, are you done? My brother was just feeling sorry for Sister Xiuyue. You think everyone is as dirty-minded as you, nitpicking everything!”
Xie Yunshu looked at Lu Xueting as if she was stupid, then smirked: “Hope you remember what you just said today. Don’t be slapped in the face later and regret it.”
According to her memories, Lu Xueting’s marriage wasn’t perfect either.
Cheng Yuxiang loved her daughter dearly and had put a lot of thought into choosing a son-in-law, afraid he would overpower her daughter. So she picked a university student from the countryside — but unfortunately, this university student had a childhood sweetheart.
When Lu Jianwei was still around, he behaved somewhat restrained. After he left, the long-suppressed university student couldn’t wait to bring her childhood sweetheart to Haicheng, claiming it was just sympathy.
At that time, Lu Xueting made quite a scene! She would literally slap herself in the face — didn’t she know it hurts?!
Lu Zhixing seemed not to hear any of this. He vaguely remembered that when they first got married, he had been performing a long surgery to save a patient. He came home in the middle of the night, and Xie Yunshu was still waiting for him.
A warm light, a fragrant bowl of noodles — she sat in front of him, looking at him with admiration: “Lu Zhixing, you make me proud.”
But now, she looked at him with disgust and said, “Lu Zhixing, you’re really disgusting.”
He was left speechless. After entering the court mediation room, the mediator first went through the procedures. Their job was to encourage reconciliation, not to encourage divorce.
“The two of you being together isn’t easy; who never quarrels or has conflicts? Think more about each other’s good points. Divorce isn’t such a simple thing. What if you regret it later? You’re still young, you have a foundation of feelings — give each other another chance…”
Xie Yunshu interrupted politely and quickly: “Sir, I don’t want to waste your time. I don’t agree to mediation.”
Seeing Lu Zhixing silent, the mediator tried again: “Don’t be impulsive; feelings need calm.”
“I’m not impulsive,” Xie Yunshu smiled at him. “I know this is your job, but my attitude won’t change. My husband gave the marital home and salary to another woman. I don’t think our marriage has any reason to continue.”
Zhou Xiuyue behind spoke quickly: “Yunshu, I will move out. Besides, hasn’t that money already been returned to you?”
Xie Yunshu scoffed: “Yeah, made my husband pay it back for you!”
The mediator was speechless. After so many years, he’d seen plenty of couples fighting for divorce. Few truly had the heart to go through with it, so most divorces could be mediated successfully.
Usually, it was over trivial matters and impulsiveness.
But now, he just felt ridiculous. What’s wrong with this man? It was the first time he’d seen someone bring the mistress to the divorce mediation!
Records clearly showed the woman wanted divorce but the man didn’t!
If he didn’t want divorce, then what was he doing? Playing games?
Yet he couldn’t simply say: “Well then, wait for the court hearing. Mediation failed!”
If he said that directly, his boss would definitely scold him. So, trying to keep up the pretense, he asked formally, “Sir, what do you mean then?”
“I agree to divorce. I can sign now.”
“W-what…?”
The mediator was stunned, even a bit angry: “If you both agree, why not just get the divorce certificate at the community office? Why come here?”
Lu Zhixing lowered his head, not looking at Xie Yunshu, just signing his name on the divorce agreement. His voice was hoarse: “I’m sorry. That money is compensation. From now on…”
He pressed his lips, finally lifting his head, eyes red: “From now on, I will prove to you that I was wrong. I deserve punishment.”
Just now on the street, when he instinctively grabbed Zhou Xiuyue, his guilt peaked. He understood: the more he didn’t want to let go, the more she resented him. Maybe if he let her go, they might still have a chance at a new beginning.
Honestly, Xie Yunshu never expected that at this critical moment, Lu Zhixing would relent!
She thought she had no chance of divorcing before years passed because lawsuits took over a month, especially with Lu Zhixing being so uncooperative. But she didn’t expect that Zhou Xiuyue’s collision just now actually helped her.
Lu Zhixing actually signed the papers.
