Do What You Can, Part 1
Mo Mo felt a surge of pride. The set of characters his daughter had developed considered hieroglyphics. Even a person from the interstellar era could easily study and understand them. What’s more, some of the characters bore a resemblance to interstellar writing. Their meanings could be guessed, even by an amateur.
“Looking at it this way, the original book that Yueyue created is actually quite interesting!” Mo Mo couldn’t help but comment.
Ye Mo chuckled softly, “Of course!” How could her precious daughter do anything useless?
Mo Mo had already called in a few language researchers from the ship and handed them the original book. He began explaining the basics of the text, but these researchers didn’t even wait for Mo Mo to finish speaking. As language experts, they understood the nuances of the script far better than he did.
After only a few words of explanation, the researchers had already grasped how to read the book. They didn’t need Mo Mo’s help anymore and were quickly absorbed in the things recorded within. So fascinated were they that they felt Mo Mo’s explanations were slowing them down.
Mo Mo hadn’t expected this. What had seemed impossible to decipher at first was now being read with ease by these researchers. Occasionally, he could even hear them exclaim in amazement over certain sections of the book.
The whole situation felt somewhat humiliating to Mo Mo. His own daughter’s creation, something he couldn’t figure out, was being understood so effortlessly by others.
This made Mo Mo feel a little unhappy!
Ye Mo watched the scene unfold, clearly amused. She wasn’t about to comfort him either—some things he had to work through on his own.
The characters Yueyue had developed were primarily based on hieroglyphics, a type of writing used in many ancient languages. The researchers were completely absorbed by the strange and wondrous stories in the book.
One of them even extracted a section of a cultivation technique and tried it out. Surprisingly, he was able to sense energy (Qi) entering his body, a phenomenon that Mo Mo hadn’t anticipated. His frustration only deepened.
Luckily, the presence of Ye Mo meant their six mischievous children stopped trying to trouble Mo Mo and happily spent time playing with him instead. Niuniu, for instance, didn’t bring out her ten thousand-piece building block set to challenge him. Instead, the kids were all playing Go together, and the scene of Mo Mo playing with six little ones was heartwarming.
Ye Mo sat quietly on a nearby lounge chair. She wasn’t particularly fond of board games, so she didn’t join in. Instead, her gaze wandered outside, where not far off lay the fake planet. The warship hadn’t moved, remaining in its original position.
Ye Mo couldn’t figure out what Mo Mo was planning. While the ghost vine issue on the fake planet had been resolved, the planet itself was still the spaceship of the gnome race. They had undoubtedly made an enemy of the gnomes, so was her husband really not worried about a retaliatory attack?
The proximity between the two was concerning. If the gnome launched some kind of powerful weapon, they might not be able to escape in time.
Mo Mo, still at leisure, caught Ye Mo’s eye. “Are you waiting for them to come out?” she asked.
“Yeah. The ghost vine has been neutralized. They should know that by now. I expect they’ll come out to contact us soon,” Mo Mo replied, glancing at his wife. Though he wasn’t entirely satisfied with her rate of cultivation improvement, she had made significant progress overnight. “Sweetheart, don’t you think our cultivation improved really fast this time?”
Ye Mo nodded in agreement, clearly pleased. “It sure did!” She was quite content with the results of their dual cultivation.
At that moment, their son, Guaiguai, looked up at them and asked, “How can one’s cultivation level be improved so quickly?” From his perspective, both his parents had shot up in power as if they were riding rockets. It was almost too fast to be true.
Ye Mo gave her husband a pointed look, leaving him to answer the question. After all, she wasn’t about to explain it herself.
Mo Mo ruffled Guaiguai’s hair. “It’s the energy we absorbed from defeating the ghost vines.”
“But weren’t those ghost vines weaker than you, Dad? How did they give you enough power to level up?” Guaiguai asked, clearly puzzled.
“Little by little, the energy added up. Those ghost vines may have been weaker, but there were so many of them,” Mo Mo explained with a smile.
Guaiguai pondered this for a moment, then made a decision: from now on, he would never underestimate weaker opponents. After all, even small things could accumulate into something big.
Just then, Beibei exclaimed, “I won! I won! Haha, Dad, you said the winner could make a request!”
Mo Mo turned to Beibei, raising an eyebrow. “Alright, Beibei, what’s your request?”
Beibei immediately pointed at the fake planet. “I want to go explore that!”
“No!”
“No!” Ye Mo and Mo Mo both rejected the idea simultaneously.
What a joke! They hadn’t yet figured out the gnomes’ intentions. There was no way they were letting the children risk their lives exploring that dangerous place.
“Dad, you’re breaking your promise!” Beibei pouted.
Mo Mo, exasperated, replied, “We agreed that you couldn’t ask for anything dangerous. Did you really think I’d let you walk into danger that easily?”
Ye Mo then hugged Beibei in her arms and asked. “Beibei, do you know that the planet you’re pointing to is actually the gnomes’ spaceship?”
“I know,” Beibei muttered, lowering his little head.
“Then why are you insisting that Dad take you there?” Ye Mo asked gently.
“Because Dad’s really strong,” Beibei whispered.
Ye Mo sighed softly. “Dad is strong, but there’s an old saying: ‘Two fists can’t beat four hands.’ No matter how strong Dad is, he’s still only one person. That planet is full of gnomes. Dad’s already angered them by destroying the ghost vines. Do you really think it would be safe for him to take you there?”
Beibei shook his head. “No, it wouldn’t.”
“Then pushing Dad into danger just to satisfy a moment of pride isn’t the right thing to do, is it?” Ye Mo asked, her tone serious.
Tears welled up in Beibei’s eyes. “Mom, I’m sorry. I was wrong!” he cried.
Ye Mo asked seriously. “Beibei, shouldn’t you be apologizing to Dad?”
Beibei lifted his tear-streaked face and looked at Mo Mo. “Dad, I’m sorry!”
Mo Mo scooped Beibei up into his arms and hugged him tightly. “It’s alright, Beibei. Mom and I aren’t mad at you. But remember, you must never rush into dangerous places. You’re still young, and there are things out there that you may not be able to handle just yet. Understand?”
