The Treehouse
Mo Mo noticed his wife’s curious eyes and couldn’t help but lightly tap her nose. “Are you one hundred thousand questions why?” (In the Chinese language, the question is ‘你是十万个为什么?’ and I don’t know how to translate this sentence meaning accurately😅, so I just translate this sentence exactly as what it was written)
“No, I’m not!” Ye Mo rolled her eyes at him. She just wanted to ask why the surface temperature of the fake planet rising as it would lead to an explosion.
Mo Mo was already instructing the helmsman to steer the warship away from the area.
As they moved further away, Ye Mo noticed something strange. “Oh my goodness, why does that fake planet look like it’s turning into a sun from a distance?”
“The roots of the ghost vine can burn continuously for hundreds of years,” Mo Mo explained, curling his lip. This plant was notorious. Sometimes, it’s nearly impossible to eradicate—it keeps burning without being destroyed.
Ye Mo looked in astonishment at the fake planet. “Does that mean the gnomes inside are doomed?”
“They brought this on themselves. Raising ghost vines and using their own kind as blood sacrifices, only to end up wiping each other out in the end—it’s too brutal.” Mo Mo’s eyes were cold; he had no sympathy for the gnomes.
“You’re right; they brought it on themselves,” Ye Mo smiled. Then, she noticed their six children playing with the gnomes.
Although the gnomes were much shorter, their six children were very well-behaved. Especially Yueyue, who had a knack for languages. She was already able to communicate with them fluently—truly a clever little one!
Mo Mo transferred the gnome language to Ye Mo, and she passed it on to the kids one by one. But when it came to Yueyue, Ye Mo realized she didn’t need to pass it on; Yueyue had already learned it on her own. The child was a true genius when it came to languages.
Ye Mo didn’t send the language to Yueyue, thinking that it would be better for her to explore and grasp even more on her own.
Just then, there was a sudden, violent explosion behind the warship. Everyone turned to look back—the explosion came from the direction of the fake planet.
The shockwave from the blast spread rapidly in all directions. Even though they had already travelled quite a distance, the wave still pushed the warship forward slightly.
Luckily, it was only the aftershock!
“They’re completely wiped out now!” Ye Mo hadn’t expected the gnomes to face their downfall so quickly.
The dwarf gnomes on board also saw the situation behind the warship. One by one, they remained expressionless. After being enslaved by the larger gnomes for so long, they had grown numb to life.
Perhaps that was why they had agreed to cooperate with the research? They were numb to life, yet they still longed to survive.
Ye Mo sighed and turned to Mo Mo. “Where are we headed next?”
Mo Mo pointed in a direction. “There’s a planet over there. I’ve observed it closely—it has plants and water, but no humans. It seems like a newly formed planet.”
He explained that according to its trajectory, the planet would be bathed in sunlight for half of each month.
The planet was suitable for human habitation. Most importantly, there were no beast tribes living there, so they wouldn’t be intruding on anyone’s territory.
Although the area technically belonged to the beast tribes, the presence of the gnomes had scared them away.
Soon, the warship landed on the planet. The space warriors eagerly disembarked, followed by the dwarf gnomes, who looked enviously at the excited warriors.
“I reckon we’ll be living here for a while. You can all start building your homes,” Yan Mingke said enthusiastically, breathing in the fresh, unpolluted air.
Mo Mo carefully inspected the planet. It was vast, with plenty of plants, water, and, most importantly, an abundance of oxygen. He turned to Ye Mo, “Do you like it here?”
Ye Mo looked at him and asked, “How do you plan to build?”
“How do you think we should build?” Mo Mo asked curiously.
“This place feels so connected to nature. I think it’s best if we avoid using high-tech solutions and just build some wooden houses,” Ye Mo suggested.
Mo Mo chuckled at her words. “Wouldn’t you prefer a treehouse?”
Ye Mo tilted her head and then looked at him. “Can you build one?”
“With just a few spells, it’s as good as done,” Mo Mo said as he tossed a tree seed. In no time, the seed sprouted and grew into a towering tree within minutes.
Mo Mo leaped onto the tree, and before long, a treehouse appeared.
Sitting at the entrance of the treehouse, Mo Mo called out, “Darling, want to come up?” He had built two levels for the treehouse.
Ye Mo glanced at it and shook her head. “The treehouse you built isn’t exactly my style.”
Ye Mo then threw a few seeds into the ground beside them. The seeds sprouted and grew into large trees, intertwining as they grew. Amazingly, as the trees grew, treehouses and spiral staircases began to form as well.
This tree was the same height as Mo Mo’s, but it was much broader. The houses were more intricate, with staircases spiralling up from the base. Every fifteen steps led to a small wooden house.
The houses weren’t large, but they were big enough for one or two people.
Mo Mo glided down to Ye Mo’s side and wrapped his arm around her shoulder. “Darling, you’re a genius! How did you come up with that?”
“The elves build their homes like this,” Ye Mo explained, calling their six children over. The kids eagerly scrambled up the tree. “Look, it’s an elf’s treehouse!”
Yan Mingke, now standing nearby, chimed in. “Sister-in-law, I want one too!” He had originally envisioned building skyscrapers, but after seeing these treehouses, they just seemed so much more comfortable.
Seeing this, others from the Eight District quickly gathered around. “Madam, we want one too!”
Ye Mo laughed and handed each of them six seeds. “You can plant them wherever you want to live.”
She gave seeds not only to the space warriors but also to the dwarf gnomes. Their seeds were much smaller in size.
Mo Mo guessed that these seeds had probably been soaked in some kind of vitality water and possibly enchanted with spells. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have grown like this.
“How did you do it?” Mo Mo asked Ye Mo.
“I have a system!” Ye Mo blinked mischievously. Her space was equipped with a system, and although she didn’t play with it much herself, there were robots managing everything for her. These seeds were a new feature from the system’s upgrade, entirely natural elves treehouse seeds, no vitality water required.
“Can I see the system next time?” Mo Mo grinned at her.
“Sure!” Ye Mo nodded.
Soon, the entire planet was filled with hundreds of large trees and thousands of smaller ones, all with exquisite treehouses. After building their homes, everyone quickly fell in love with their new surroundings. Their only wish now was that it would be great to bring their families over to live with them.
