Reborn in the Interstellar World as Cannon Fodder Chapter 47

A Close Call

As Ye Mo was flung into the air, she felt a sensation as if something inside her belly was about to be torn from her soul. The powerful force nearly shattered her soul entirely, leaving her with a faint sense of pain in her abdomen, which terrified her so much that she immediately sought refuge in her space, immersing herself in the Yin-side of the pool within.

She stayed submerged there for the entire night. Her soul frantically absorbed the pool’s energy, and by the next morning, Ye Mo woke to find herself transformed into a low-ranking ghost warrior, her level had risen to 33. She hadn’t expected such a big surprise, and elation filled her as she dashed out of her space. She soon realized she hadn’t yet returned home and worried about whether her prolonged absence from her body might cause issues.

Though she didn’t particularly care for the original owner’s body, her concern lay with the little one inside her. Ye Mo rushed toward the villa, unaware that her transformation into a low-ranking ghost warrior had altered her soul’s appearance; she was now visible to others as a transparent glowing figure.

While running, Ye Mo was accidentally captured on camera by a passing woman who, stunned and terrified, uploaded the footage to the Interstellar network with the caption: “Did I just see a ghost? Aren’t ghosts supposed to be non-existent?” The bizarre footage quickly went viral, and debates about whether ghosts existed exploded across the galaxy.

Unaware of this, Ye Mo hurriedly returned to her body, only to feel a sudden loss of balance before slipping into unconsciousness. The following morning, Mo Mo knocked on her door but received no response, prompting him to burst in and discover her unresponsive state. Panic-stricken, he scooped her up and rushed her to the military camp’s medical centre.

Within the camp, the interstellar soldiers were training when they spotted their general rushing into the medical room, carrying a woman in his arms. While Mo Mo’s presence thrilled the female soldiers, the sight of the woman in his embrace stirred feelings of jealousy.

Meanwhile, the medical officer was examining Ye Mo.

“General, the young lady is just asleep. There’s nothing wrong with her body.”

“Then why can’t she wake up?”

“That’s beyond my expertise. Perhaps she’s just very tired.”

“And the baby?”

“She’s pregnant?”

“What did you check earlier?”

“You didn’t mention pregnancy, so I only checked her brain.” Startled, the medical officer resumed the examination. This time, he paled. “General, her abdomen shows signs of trauma, but her body itself has no external injuries.”

“Only her abdomen was affected?”

The officer, puzzled by the anomaly, nodded. While Ye Mo’s body showed no visible distress, the baby inside seemed to have experienced some impact.

Mo observed the scans, noting that the baby now had a more defined shape, resembling someone who had survived a severe accident. The sight filled him with a profound sense of distress.

His hands trembled slightly. “Will the baby be alright?”

“Rest assured, General. The baby suffered some impact but is not in any immediate danger. The mother’s unconscious state may be her body’s way of healing from the trauma.”

“Understood.” Mo carried Ye Mo out of the room, taking her back to his quarters. He set up a nutrient tank and gently placed Ye Mo inside, adding a few drops of life essence to the solution.

Ye Mo remained deeply asleep, oblivious even as she was submerged in the nutrient solution. However, as soon as she entered the liquid, the baby in her womb seemed to thrive, quickly absorbing the restorative properties of the essence.

Mo Mo left the room to attend to some matters, ensuring his quarters were securely locked behind him. Shortly after his departure, a shadowy figure appeared outside his quarters. After checking that no one was around, the figure produced a key and stealthily slipped inside.

Just as Mo M was about to take a break, he glanced at his wrist device to check on Ye Mo, only to find that someone had entered his quarters. On the screen, he watched in horror as the intruder tampered with the nutrient tank, draining the solution.

The sight almost caused Mo Mo’s heart to stop. A nutrient tank was a sealed environment; without the solution, it would become a vacuum, and the person inside could suffocate.

Unaware of the danger, Ye Mo’s unborn child sensed the diminishing solution and rapidly absorbed the remaining life force. By the time Mo Mo stormed back into his quarters, the nutrient solution had been fully drained. The intruder, a female soldier, stood nearby with a sinister smile. Mo furiously kicked her into the corner and hastily opened the tank, his hands trembling as he checked Ye Mo’s breathing.

Thankfully, she was still breathing.

Mo Mo gently lifted her out of the tank. His guards and aides, who had followed him back, quickly apprehended the female soldier. Though unaware of Ye Mo’s exact identity, they could tell she was crucial to their general.

The female soldier turned out to be the same one Mo Mo had thrown out of his room previously. Consumed by jealousy over Ye Mo being brought back by Mo Mo, she had sought to harm her.

Mo Mo immediately declared a death sentence for the soldier, citing her attack on a pregnant woman. The medical officer confirmed that Ye Mo was four months along; despite her relatively small belly, the baby was already formed.

Nobody contested the sentence, but the female soldier began shouting hysterically, “General Mo, you can’t do this to me! I’m your fiancée!”

Mo Mo laughed angrily, “I wasn’t even aware I had a fiancée. Anyone else know about this?”

His aides shook their heads, just as confused.

“The Mo family arranged it!” the woman finally confessed. “I’m from the Yan family of Star One. You can’t kill me!”

“You tried to murder my wife and child. I don’t care who you are!” Mo retorted. He no longer feared powerful families; his military prowess and the life-restoring nutrients he had developed had earned him overwhelming support from his troops.

“General, I’ll carry out the sentence!” one of Mo Mo’s guards immediately dragged the soldier away. She had nearly cost their young master’s life and couldn’t be spared.

“No, don’t! Cousin, save me!” the woman screamed.
