Reborn in the Interstellar World as Cannon Fodder Chapter 49

Unforgivable, Part 2

“Where does Mr. Mo get such confidence?” Mo Mo’s tone was icy.

Mo’s father, hearing his son didn’t even address him as “father,” became visibly upset. “Mo Mo, I am your father.”

“I haven’t denied that you are my father, but you’re overstepping your boundaries,” Mo Mo retorted, leaving no room for pleasantries.

At this moment, Mo’s father was in the family hall, surrounded by several elders, all listening in on their conversation.

“Mo Mo, do you really not wish to have the family anymore?”

“Mr. Mo, let’s get things straight: it was the Mo family who abandoned me first.” Mo Mo suddenly realized he lacked Gao Qing’s decisiveness. Had he been more resolute when he was cast out, he would have changed his surname back then, and he wouldn’t be dealing with this mess now.

“Mo Mo, are you really that stubborn?”

“She tried to kill my wife and child—should I just let her off?” Mo Mo was furious. He had long made it clear that he had nothing to do with the Mo family, yet here they were, stirring up more trouble by arranging an engagement for him. How dare they?

“I heard that woman is just a commoner,” Mo’s father remarked, clearly displeased by the situation.

“This has nothing to do with Mr. Mo, and even less to do with the Mo family!” Mo Mo was direct and firm in his response.

“Mo Mo, your roots are with the Mo family.”

“I have no roots; I’m a drifter,” Mo Mo shot back. Where was the family back then? They abandoned him, so they shouldn’t come looking for him now. He despised these manipulative games.

“Can you really not let her go? You could talk to your woman. The Yan family is willing to pay a price, as long as she doesn’t ask for the moon,” Mo’s father pleaded.

Mo Mo laughed, “She doesn’t need anything. What she has, you all lack. Yan Zhier must face the death penalty. She has no special privileges with me.”

“She is your fiancée!” Mo’s father was so angry it felt like his liver might burst.

“Who decided that for me? I don’t want it! Besides, my wife is already pregnant. Mr. Mo, you should know how our interstellar laws protect pregnant women, right?” Mo Mo chuckled coldly, adding, “Goodbye, Mr. Mo. The Mo family should think twice before meddling in Yan’s business. My temper is not the best!”

With that, Mo Mo ended the call. He had no intention of wasting any more time with the Mo family.

As he headed back to camp, someone from the Yan family tried to contact him, but Mo Mo ignored the call. The person reaching out was an old classmate of his, Yan Yuheng, although their relationship had always been adversarial. Mo Mo wondered what the Yan family was thinking, sending someone like that.

“Yan Yuheng, what’s this about?” Mo Mo’s tone was cold.

“Mo Mo, can’t we reach an agreement on this?”

“Yan Yuheng, if it were your pregnant wife who was nearly killed, what would you do?” Mo Mo asked pointedly.

Yan Yuheng hesitated. If his pregnant wife had been targeted, he would have torn the person responsible to shreds.

“Alright, I have nothing more to say,” Yan Yuheng conceded. He hadn’t truly planned to beg Mo Mo, and given their strained relationship, he wasn’t surprised by Mo Mo’s response.

Yan Yuheng relayed Mo Mo’s stance to his family, and the Yan family was outraged.

“Isn’t Zhier his fiancée? How can he treat her like this? It’s so unfair to Zhier!”

“Exactly, the Mo family is just too much!” various Yan family members chimed in angrily.

Yan Yuheng cut through their complaints, “What’s the point of all this talk? I told you before, Mo Mo was abandoned by the Mo family. He has no loyalty to them, but you didn’t believe me.”

In fact, many prominent families had abandoned some of their children, like Gao Qing, and likely many others as well.

“So what if he was abandoned? Does that mean he has no feelings for his family at all?”

Yan Yuheng couldn’t help but chuckle at that. “Would you feel anything for a family that abandoned you from a young age, not even providing support?”

Reflecting on a time when he had glimpsed the hatred in a child’s eyes as he left the family, Patriarch Yan felt a sense of powerlessness. As the head of the Yan family, he had never abolished this tradition because he believed it served a purpose—no family wanted to support a failure.

But then, there was Mo Mo of the Mo family and their own Gao Qing, and many other discarded members who had become influential figures. Yet, very few of them ever reconnected with their families.

And even if they did, it was usually just for their own gain.

Patriarch Yan slumped back in his chair, feeling defeated. The one currently imprisoned was his own granddaughter, Zhier. He had always doted on her, never expecting she would try to take someone’s life.

The family had never taught her to behave this way.

Ultimately, the patriarch concluded that Zhier’s behavior stemmed from her mother, also from a distinguished family and Yan’s legitimate wife. She had always been ruthless toward her husband’s concubines. Two had died by her hand, and one pregnant woman had lost her child because of her cruelty.

This time, the Yan patriarch was truly angry and took the opportunity to severely punish Zhier’s mother. From that point on, no one in the Yan family was willing to help Zhier.

Unexpectedly, Qin Lin intervened on behalf of Zhier, leaving Mo Mo a bit speechless. “Why are you getting involved in this?”

“I was asked to step in,” Qin Lin explained. “Zhier’s maternal family is the Kang family, and you know Kang Lian is my woman.”

“I’m not trying to disrespect you, but if I let Zhier go, I’ll never be able to bring my wife back into my arms again,” Mo Mo declared, unwilling to release Zhier under any circumstances.

Qin Lin sighed. “I told them you were unreachable!” He had no other way to explain it to his woman.

Mo Mo acknowledged Qin’s plight but remained firm. Zhier had to face the death penalty, no matter who asked for leniency.

Time passed quickly, and soon it was the next day. Zhier had been waiting for someone to save her, but to her shock, she was escorted to the execution site.

Mo Mo didn’t even give her the chance to speak. He had someone administer the lethal injection immediately. In interstellar law, executions were carried out through an injection that caused no pain to the condemned.

And so, Zhier was executed, her downfall driven by jealousy.

After Zhier’s execution, word spread throughout the galaxy that General Mo had both a wife and a child on the way. People couldn’t help but wonder who the lucky woman was who managed to marry General Mo.

Who could be so fortunate to have won Mo Mo’s heart?
