Reborn in the Interstellar World as Cannon Fodder
Reborn in the Interstellar World as Cannon Fodder Chapter 5

Crossed

Ye Mo now existed as nothing more than a transparent shadow, feeling like a mere spiritual entity. She could no longer practice ghost techniques, which left her feeling somewhat powerless.

However, she was grateful to find herself in her personal space, where she had stored various valuable items she had plundered over time. Ye Mo quickly discovered that despite her ethereal form, she still had control over this space.

With newfound determination, she began to organize her space and, of course, continued to indulge in her farming game. She couldn’t help but feel thankful for the automatic sorting function of her space warehouse; without it, managing the miscellaneous loot she had accumulated would have been overwhelming. The items from the farm were safely stored there, and they even remained well-preserved.

Among the many treasures she had acquired in the cultivation world, Ye Mo found a jade scroll designed for cultivating spirits. Having learned the process before, it took her only a day or two to feel her spirit becoming more solid and tangible.

Ye Mo then decided to soak in the yang side of the Yin-Yang Pool. The comfort she felt was indescribable, knowing that the yang side was now most suitable for her current state. While soaking in the pool, she held a storybook in her hand and began to flip through it. These storybooks she had obtained from the mortal world were truly delightful.

But as she continued reading, Ye Mo almost spat blood in frustration. What kind of story was this?

The protagonist in the book is Yu He, a person from an interstellar society. Yu He had a half-sister named Yu Mo, who was the older sister. Yu Mo was a strange character—not particularly malicious, but she always seemed to show her fangs when dealing with the protagonist.

Originally, the male lead was supposed to be Yu Mo’s fiancé. They even had a relationship before marriage and had a child together. Yet, in the end, this male lead became the younger sister’s husband—a classic scumbag!

The tragic fate of the cannon fodder sister was miserable. Not only did her child die, but her own life was ruined by the younger sister, the female protagonist.

Why was this book so infuriating? And to make matters worse, the cannon fodder sister shared the same character “Mo” in her name as Ye Mo. This only made Ye Mo feel even more annoyed!

While soaking in the pool, Ye Mo couldn’t help but complain out loud. “What a trash story, written by a trash author. They’re even worse than me—a ghost with proper values! And that man? He’s a scumbag! Not only did he harm the sister, but he also married the younger sister. Truly shameless.”

As Ye Mo ranted, she didn’t notice a lightning-like object forming above her head. With a sudden crackling sound, Ye Mo fell unconscious. Damn it, even the heavens couldn’t tolerate her spirit body. Was her state so pitiful?

In her drowsy state, Ye Mo began to hear voices around her.

“Mom, how is Momo?”

“She’s still running a fever,” an elderly woman’s voice responded.

“Mom, you’ve worked hard these past two days!”

“Sigh, poor Momo. This child has suffered so much because of the mischief caused by your brother and the others. She’s been so wronged!” The elderly woman’s voice was filled with sorrow, and it seemed like she had been crying.

Momo’s aunt also sighed. “I don’t know what my brother was thinking, letting them bully Momo like that. I told him that Yu He might not be his child, but he just wouldn’t believe me!”

“Let’s not talk about it anymore. Since he can’t figure it out, let him be wrong. From now on, Momo is mine. He won’t have anything to do with her!” Grandma declared, no longer willing to waste any affection on her son. If he didn’t want Momo, she would take care of her herself. After all, Grandma still had many years left and could take good care of Momo.

In her semi-conscious state, some of the words reached Momo’s ears while others seemed jumbled or faded away.

The memories of the previous host began flooding into her mind—Yu Mo, Yu He, Zhang Yu Ming. These three names echoed in her ears.

Who am I?

Who is Yu Mo?

Who is Yu He? Who is Zhang Yu Ming? Why do I feel so familiar with all of this?

What’s happening?

Why do I feel so strange?

Shouldn’t I be in the Dark Realm? Where is this place? Why do I have an additional set of memories?

Who am I?

Who am I really?

Am I Ye Mo or Yu Mo? Am I in the Dark Realm or in the Interstellar World?

Why does it all feel so bizarre?

A day passed in the blink of an eye. When Momo finally woke up again, she had a clearer understanding of whether she was Ye Mo or Yu Mo.

This time, she awoke to the sensation of something choking her. Someone was trying to feed her something, but the taste was awful—worse than water from a smelly ditch.

Of course, Momo had never actually tasted water from a smelly ditch, but after wandering with Qin Lin in the human world and sampling all sorts of delicious foods, she found this taste particularly unpleasant.

“Momo, you’re awake? Quickly finish the nutrient solution, or you won’t have any energy!” It was Grandma, feeding her the medicine.

“Grandma!” Momo instinctively called out.

“Ah, Grandma’s Momo has finally woken up!” Grandma wiped away her tears. Why did her granddaughter have to endure such a difficult life?

Although Momo didn’t want to drink the nutrient solution, she could feel that her body desperately needed the energy. If she didn’t drink it, she might not even have the strength to get up.

So, she endured the foul taste and drank the entire bottle of nutrient solution.

Grandma gently laid her back on the bed and told her to keep resting. Now, she was deeply worried about her granddaughter’s future.

When Yu Mo had been found, she was lying with her fiancé, Zhang Yu Ming, but he had denied ever touching her.

He refused to admit anything, even now and insulted Yu Mo by calling her promiscuous.

Zhang Yu Ming was truly shameless—incredibly shameless!

Grandma was furious, but she felt helpless. In this world, the Yu family was considered the lowest class throughout the interstellar society. As for the Zhang family, they were slightly better off, belonging to the middle class. For Yu Mo to be engaged to Zhang Yu Ming was seen as a step up in the world.

Of course, this engagement had come about because Yu Mo’s biological mother had saved Zhang Yu Ming’s mother, leading to the arrangement.

Unfortunately, Yu Mo’s mother passed away too early, so Yu Mo had been raised by Grandma. This allowed her younger sister, Yu He, to take advantage of the situation and end up with Zhang Yu Ming…

Now that Yu Mo was gone and replaced by Ye Mo, who had accessed the memories of the original host, she found the situation absurd—utterly absurd. Not only had the cannon fodder sister led a miserable life, but the memories Ye Mo read from the original host revealed that the man involved wasn’t even Zhang Yu Ming. Zhang Yu Ming was simply a scapegoat.

Ye Mo felt speechless. What should she do now? Confront Zhang Yu Ming or stay silent?

After some thought, Ye Mo decided to keep quiet. After all, the original host had never clearly identified the man, and when Ye Mo read the story, she had a negative impression of Zhang Yu Ming. So, she decided to let people suspect him for now! After all, he owed the original host!

(End of chapter)

Momo: This is Yu Mo’s (Ye Mo’s) nickname, I wrote it this way instead if ‘Mo Mo’ so as not to confuse you guys with the male lead)
