The Puppet Doll
In the days that followed, Yu He would come by every day to put on some kind of performance right next to Ye Mo’s room. Unfortunately for her, it was all in vain, as the person inside paid her no attention at all. Meanwhile, Ye Mo watched it all unfold as if she were enjoying a show.
One day, the old butler came to Ye Mo with a mysterious expression, handing her a ring. “Young Master, this is something that could be very useful to you.”
“What treasure have you found this time?” Ye Mo asked, excitement lighting up her face. She immediately peered inside the ring, and what she saw left her stunned: perfectly crafted human-like bodies. “What… is this?”
“These are puppet bodies, not actual human bodies,” the old butler explained. “They were created by a master in the cultivation world.”
“So, I stole this from the same master that Qin Lin and I robbed back in the day?”
“That seems to be the case! But this ring was stored together with the manual for the clone technique. Initially, I couldn’t see what was inside, but after you began practicing the clone technique, the ring’s colour changed, and I made this discovery.”
Inside the ring were about ten of these puppet bodies crafted by the master. Ye Mo picked out a beautiful female puppet, detached her soul from her body, and let her physical body be controlled by her spiritual form to soak in the vitality pool. Her soul, meanwhile, took control of the female puppet.
She had to admit, the puppet body was incredibly well-crafted—its skin had an elastic quality that made it almost indistinguishable from a real body, except for being slightly lighter in weight. Other than that, it was flawless.
Ye Mo controlled her new puppet body with ease, moving around and even jumping into the dark water on the Yin side of the pool. The water did not harm the puppet, which thrilled her—using a body to cultivate was much faster than doing so as a pure soul.
The only thing that bothered her was the puppet’s face. If only it could look exactly like hers.
She quickly stepped out of the space and contacted Mo Mo. After all, if Mo Mo could create a robot that looked just like her, he could surely make this puppet’s face resemble hers as well.
Ye Mo explained the clone technique and her discovery about the puppet bodies to Mo Mo, and he asked her to send over both the manual and the puppet. He wanted to study them.
Without hesitation, Ye Mo sent Mo Mo the manual and, on a whim, two puppet bodies—one male and one female. For some reason, she had a feeling Mo Mo could benefit from them as well.
When Mo Mo received the items, he smiled and quickly studied the puppet bodies. In no time, he found the right materials and crafted a face that looked exactly like Ye Mo’s. He then sent it back to her. As for the male puppet, he molded its face to look like his own and began practicing the clone technique himself.
Ye Mo was shocked when she saw the puppet’s face—it was indistinguishable from hers. “Mo Mo, you’re amazing! You really nailed it,” she exclaimed, examining the face closely.
Even the old butler couldn’t tell the difference between Ye Mo and the puppet body. Ye Mo was thrilled. Now, she had two bodies she could switch between.
Most of Ye Mo’s time was spent in her space, cultivating. However, she kept an eye on Yu He’s daily antics. If only she knew how to craft puppet bodies herself, she would’ve considered sending Yu He a puppet child as a gift.
A puppet child?
Suddenly, Ye Mo’s eyes lit up with excitement. She left the space and immediately connected with Mo Mo.
“Mo Mo, do you have a moment?” she asked, a hint of eagerness in her voice.
Mo Mo smiled at her on the screen, clearly missing her. “Of course, what do you need, Momo?” They were quite far apart at the moment, and Mo Mo didn’t want to risk teleporting to her side since he wasn’t sure he could return, so for now, teleportation wasn’t an option.
“I’ve been thinking. Can you create a puppet child and insert a chip into it? I want to give Yu He a special gift.”
Mo Mo chuckled. “Is this what you’re looking for?” He lifted a small object—a puppet child that looked nothing like their own children.
“This doesn’t look like one of ours at all!” Ye Mo commented, pouting a little.
“Who would know what our children look like?” Mo Mo raised an eyebrow. He wasn’t about to let anyone cradle his kids, so he casually crafted a random puppet child.
“You’re right! As long as we say it’s ours, then it is.” Ye Mo laughed, pleased with the idea.
Mo Mo quickly sent the puppet child over to her.
When Ye Mo received it, she pinched its little face, and to her surprise, it began to cry! Startled, she almost dropped it.
“I programmed it with a very loud and annoying cry. Give it to the fake wife next door and have her take care of it. Then, when you get a chance, pass it off to Yu He,” Mo Mo said with a sly grin, his eyes narrowing. It was a devious plan—give them a puppet child that would drive them crazy.
“Got it!” Ye Mo chuckled. She had never realized how mischievous her husband could be.
That night, while everyone was asleep, Ye Mo sneaked out of her room carrying the puppet child. The moment she stepped outside, the door across the hall opened, and a guard stepped out.
“Madam!” The guard’s eyes lit up when he saw the child in her arms.
Ye Mo motioned for him to stay quiet as she walked over to the room next door. The soldier opened the door, and Ye Mo handed the puppet child to him. The small, soft body made the soldier freeze in panic.
“Don’t worry,” Ye Mo reassured him, “it’s just a puppet child. But it’s very noisy. Try to find a way to get it into Yu He’s hands over the next few days.”
The soldier cautiously squeezed the puppet’s face, and it immediately started wailing. The sound was so loud, that even the soundproof door couldn’t block it.
The soldier looked like he was about to cry himself, but Ye Mo simply laughed. “Let it cry. That’ll make it easier to dump on Yu He.”
The guard’s eyes lit up with realization. This puppet child was indistinguishable from a real one—it cried, had tears, and even had a heartbeat. It also had a small bracelet on its wrist displaying its genetic health at 80%.
A puppet with a genetic health score? The soldier couldn’t help but feel a little envious of the puppet child.
As Ye Mo slipped quietly out of the room, the guard didn’t leave either. Instead, he spent the whole night trying to keep the puppet child crying. By morning, he informed the other guards of his new discovery.
Soon, all the guards were taking turns entering the fake wife’s room, using every trick to keep the puppet crying. Occasionally, they even left the door slightly open so that the crying could be heard outside.
Would Yu He enjoy the gift of a perpetually crying puppet child? Only time will tell.
