Reborn in the Interstellar World as Cannon Fodder Chapter 82

Ye Mo (Part 2)

Yu Mo was struggling violently, almost as if she had lost her mind. “Impossible! Impossible!” she screamed. In response, Ye Mo transmitted the novel’s contents directly into Yu Mo’s soul, and Yu Mo instantly stopped struggling, stunned by what she saw.

So, the world she lived in was just a story? And in that novel, she was nothing but an ugly side character?

Reflecting on her past sacrifices, Yu Mo felt a wave of bitterness. Was that really who she was? A woman played like a puppet by her sister, throwing away her life for a man who didn’t even care for her? What had she been hoping to achieve?

For the first time, Yu Mo questioned her motives. Over the past weeks, she had secretly observed Ye Mo’s life. Ye Mo’s independence and confidence made her envious. She knew she could never possess that kind of courage.

In truth, she had always been shackled by her attachment to her family. Her grandmother had raised her with the idea of filial piety as her guiding principle. She had loved her father deeply because of her grandmother’s teachings, which were to always prioritize her father above everything. And so, she had walked further and further down the path of seeking his approval.

Yu Mo shook her head, trying to rid herself of those thoughts. She didn’t want to admit that her family had never truly cared for her. Her grandmother’s teachings were not about self-preservation but about living to serve her father.

Meanwhile, Ye Mo had tossed Yu Mo’s soul to the ground and continued her own cultivation in the vitality water. Yu Mo’s soul, still in shock, sat on the ground, sobbing with heart-wrenching cries that carried an eerie tremor, enough to frighten anyone who heard it.

Even the old butler found it unbearable and retreated into the mansion within the space, making sure to keep the children away. Although technically, this ghostly form was his true young master, he had grown to accept Ye Mo, not Yu Mo. To him, Yu Mo was an outsider, and he had no affection for her, especially when she posed a threat to the six little darlings of his household.

Yu Mo cried for a long time before finally stopping.

“Why did you abandon Grandma?” she wept.

“Yu Mo, do you really think your grandmother cared about you?” Ye Mo asked pointedly. “Was her love for you, or was it for your father? Her teachings were centered on making you live for your father, not yourself.”

“But isn’t that what’s expected?” Yu Mo protested.

Ye Mo shook her head. “Your mindset is nothing but a reflection of deep-rooted submissiveness. I can’t change your thinking, but think carefully—did your grandmother ever tell you to protect yourself first in times of danger?”

Yu Mo stopped crying, remembering her grandmother’s words: her father was her sky, and without him, her sky would collapse. Self-preservation had never been part of her teachings. In her quest for her father’s approval, she had lost her sense of self, allowing herself to become increasingly entangled in her stepmother’s manipulations.

Looking at the events in the book, she realized they were exactly what she would have done. To gain her father’s approval, she might have made all those foolish choices, ultimately losing her own child and her life at the hands of her half-sister, Yu He.

Though she had harboured resentment toward Yu He, her submissive nature made her endure silently. After all, her grandmother had always said that endurance would lead to a better tomorrow.

Moreover, Ye Mo recalled how Yu Mo’s grandmother had spoken when they first met: it was all to manipulate Yu Mo further, to keep her bound to her father, Yu Fengqi’s, whims. But what the grandmother had not anticipated was that the soul within Yu Mo’s body would be replaced. Ye Mo’s decisive actions left the grandmother stunned and helpless, leading to her ultimate breakdown when she could no longer bear seeing her beloved son in misery.

Yu Mo felt utterly defeated. Even her grandmother’s supposed love was false, and hoping to gain her father’s favour was nothing more than a delusion. After all, in the novel, her father had watched her die at Yu He’s hands and even sold off her body parts.

“Do you want to change your fate?” Ye Mo asked, her gaze fixed on Yu Mo.

“How?” Yu Mo replied, her voice choked with sorrow.

“Reincarnation,” Ye Mo answered.

“How does that work?”

“I can send you on your way. Who knows, maybe you’ll be born into a good family in your next life,” Ye Mo said.

“Is that really possible?” Yu Mo’s face was twisted with despair, almost like a bitter gourd.

Ye Mo flicked her fingers at Yu Mo’s soul, dispelling a few strands of dark energy. “I’ve just removed your bad luck. If you reincarnate now, you’ll have better luck in your next life.”

“I want to reincarnate!” Yu Mo clenched her fists. In her next life, she was determined to live better. She vowed never to let anyone brainwash her again.

Ye Mo sighed deeply. “You’ve made the right choice.”

With that, Ye Mo carried Yu Mo’s soul out of the space and into a room outside. She performed a hand gesture and a dark, gaping door opened in the room. “Go on,” she said.

Without looking back, Yu Mo rushed toward the door, shouting, “Thank you, Ye Mo! At first, I thought you ruined my family, but after reading that book, I realized you did the right thing!”

If it had been her in Ye Mo’s place, she would have ended up just like the story—ultimately outwitted by her cunning sister and left with nothing.

Fortunately, Ye Mo had taken over, and fortunately, she knew the whole story.

“Good luck!” Ye Mo called after her, letting out a long sigh. She hoped the girl would have better luck in her next life.

“Thank you!” Yu Mo’s voice echoed back as she disappeared into the door, which then closed and gradually vanished.

This was the first time Ye Mo had opened the gate of reincarnation—a doorway that only a ghost warrior could unlock with such cultivation level. Luckily, she knew the spell; otherwise, there would have been no way to help Yu Mo.

However, Ye Mo had noticed that in this interstellar world, there seemed to be no established system of reincarnation, no signs of any Reincarnation Hall.

Ye Mo felt this interstellar world wasn’t complete. How could a world be whole without a proper reincarnation system?

But Ye Mo wasn’t the type to meddle unnecessarily. If she hadn’t taken over Yu Mo’s body, she wouldn’t have bothered with any of this.

As she glanced around, Ye Mo spotted Yu He and Yuan Lili on the same floor, struggling to comfort the puppet baby. Both of them were drenched in sweat, showing how much effort they had exerted.
