Chapter 27 – Yuxin Gets Cursed on Trending
She swiped to accept the call—then immediately yanked her hand back to cover her ears.
Two seconds of silence.
Then, a man’s roar blasted through the line, crashing straight into her eardrums, loud enough to nearly shatter the phone’s speaker.
“……Shuhui!!!!!! Have you lost your mind? Randomly registering a marriage with a stranger?! How many times have you even met that bastard?? And yet you hold hands in front of cameras, flaunting like some perfect couple! Aren’t you afraid you’ll ruin your life?!”
“You didn’t reply for a whole month. If I hadn’t known ‘Yuxin’ was still alive, I would have filed a missing person report, do you get that?!”
“Ah? Ah?! AH?!?!?!”
That final “ah” shot straight into a high C—no cracks in his voice. Truly worthy of a male singer.
Shuhui coolly commented in her head, then tried to calm him:
“Lower your voice.”
“How the hell am I supposed to calm down?!”
Sheng Yi had been fuming for an entire month. When he first heard the news, he had already been on his way into the mountains. The director had threatened to chop him up and boil him into soup if he dared to run off.
So he’d been forced to stew in fear and rage until now.
“If one day, it were you, Shuhui—if you suddenly heard that I’d gotten a flash marriage, married into some powerful clan, instantly with a wife and child—what would you think?!”
“?”
Shuhui actually gave it a serious thought.
“I’d think… damn it, how come you get such good luck?”
Sheng Yi: “…………”
Fearing he’d scream himself into dolphin-whistle pitch, she quickly surrendered and coaxed him:
“Okay, okay, stop. My bad.”
“Sorry for not replying to my best friend’s messages on time. It was my fault. My head was too much of a mess back then…”
That was when she had just been reborn—facing the marriage certificate, the reporters, Minfang’s scolding and endless obstacles…
On top of that, she’d had to separate past-life memories from her present self.
On the outside, she seemed calm. But in truth, her emotions had been a tangled mess, exhausting her to the bone.
Half the time she didn’t even know if this was reality, or if she’d already died.
Or worse, whether the previous life had been the real dream.
No one could accept rebirth in an instant. Such a surreal thing—if she told anyone, they’d think she’d gone insane.
Anyone who’s experienced rebirth knows: you need time to buffer, to process.
Her mind had been foggy for a long while. Only after passing through all kinds of emotions did she gradually steady herself.
Luckily, during those days Qin Yushen hadn’t returned, and Minfang hadn’t come knocking either, so she’d had space to quietly reflect in the bamboo lodge.
And so, she’d missed Sheng Yi’s messages entirely.
“I already forget to reply most of the time. Back then, with my head scrambled, there was no chance.”
She said this shamelessly, without the slightest guilt—because she’d always been bossy with her childhood friend.
Sheng Yi didn’t find it strange. He accepted her excuse, his last bit of anger ebbing away—but his fury toward the Qin family remained undiminished.
“That Qin Yushen—last year I saw him at a gathering. Tch, everyone treated him like some living deity, while he sat there with that frozen face. I’ve never seen such arrogance.”
Then he blurted, panicked:
“He hasn’t bullied you, has he? If he ever dares hit you, don’t you dare put up with it—grab a weapon, hit him back, then call the cops…”
“Impossible…” Shuhui cut him off.
“I’m really doing well here. My body’s great, my appetite’s great. I have my own plans.
Anyway, that’s enough. Back to business—send me your so-called ‘artistic’ description in plain human language. That’s all, bye.”
“Hey! I haven’t even spoken to Ningning yet, my goddaughter—”
Beep. Beep.
The line went dead.
If she let him ramble further, she’d get nothing done tonight.
She settled her mind and began sketching. Completely unaware that Qin Yushen had been standing at the entryway for a long while…
The man leaned against the wall, cold-faced, suit jacket draped over his arm. He finally walked past her to the stairs.
His voice, equally cold:
“I’m back. Going upstairs.”
Different from usual—his footsteps were deliberately heavy, each step sounding sharp against the floor.
But Shuhui, fully immersed in work, didn’t even lift her head—let alone respond.
With inspiration flowing, she kept drawing late into the night before finally returning to the master bedroom.
Qin Suining had long been coaxed to sleep. The little girl lay on one side of the big bed, a pillow barrier set to keep her safe.
But the man was nowhere to be found. For half a month now, he had always left after putting Ningning to sleep—kicked out by Shuhui.
Tonight, no need to kick—he’d gone off on his own. Shuhui glanced around, didn’t care, and went to shower. If the dog man wanted to come back or not, that was his problem.
In the guest room across the hall, Qin Yushen opened his door just a crack.
He stared at the faint light leaking from the tightly shut master bedroom.
Expressionless, he shut his door again, sitting stiffly on his bed.
Time passed. He opened his door again.
And again.
And again… until finally, the master bedroom went dark.
Qin Yushen: “……”
The next evening, the sky blazed crimson with sunset, like fireworks igniting half the heavens.
“Red sky tonight, sailors’ delight,” as the saying goes.
Seeing the fiery clouds, Shuhui felt cheerful and sighed:
“Tomorrow will be fine weather.”
“Mommy, come quick! I found the watering can!” Ningning shouted happily from the courtyard.
Qin Yushen hadn’t been home for dinner in two days—whether buried in work or hiding from the housekeeper’s endless herbal tonics, Shuhui didn’t know.
So the post-dinner walk duty fell to her.
Since their quarrel at the banquet, she hadn’t spoken a single word to him.
She was only quietly waiting—for the good news Minfang owed her.
Mother and daughter laughed together, watering the camellias in the courtyard.
Neither knew that online, a storm was already raging under the name “Yuxin.”
