Chapter 15: This Is Sister’s Secret
In the hazy night, one could vaguely see a small village.
Perhaps the commotion they caused was too loud, arousing the alertness of many large dogs in the village, which barked restlessly.
“Kill him and leave quickly, this village is strange,” said the man clutching his chest, blood oozing from an unknown wound, his expression extremely serious.
The man named Ji Sang gradually lost strength and finally collapsed after receiving a palm strike.
“Die!” Three men in black leapt up, each ready to finish Ji Sang with a knife. Unexpectedly, what the wounded man feared happened.
The three men, like him, were struck by an unknown force and thrown back. This time, the force seemed stronger, directly ending their lives.
“What?” Ji Sang was shocked and tried to escape, but suddenly felt something wrap around his ankle. Before he could see what it was, he was dragged into the bushes.
“Ah…” He helplessly watched a green vine pierce his throat.
Ji Sang’s already pale face turned even more ashen with fear.
“Th-thank you, noble one, for saving me,” he stammered, intending to say, “Who is playing tricks pretending to be a deity?”
But thinking that his savior had helped him, he changed his words. Unexpectedly, right after speaking, he felt danger approaching and heard creepy rustling sounds from the bushes near his ear, making his scalp tingle.
“C-could the noble one please show yourself?” He was terrified, hoping it was a person, fearing it might not be.
The sound grew closer, and Ji Sang’s heart nearly rose to his throat. He didn’t notice that a green vine was crawling toward him like a snake.
Just as he sensed something wrong and turned sharply, he came face-to-face with the vine aiming to kill him.
He never imagined that the ones who killed the four assassins were a vine.
Was the vine possessed, or controlled by someone?
“D-don’t kill me,” Ji Sang swallowed hard, his body trembling violently.
Beads of sweat rolled down his forehead.
The thorny green vine was only a finger’s width from his brow, making him shiver instinctively.
“Give me one reason not to kill you,” Su Wan’s voice sounded, and at that moment, Ji Sang felt an unprecedented calm.
Because he heard kindness in the childlike, innocent voice.
Such a kind voice surely wouldn’t kill the innocent recklessly.
So he slowly said, “I am Ji Sang, deputy general to General Rong, sent to escort General Rong to guard the border town. Unexpectedly, we were ambushed on the way, and I escaped here.”
Having died young in her past life, Su Wan did not know who General Rong was. But she would never kill those defending their homeland.
Su Wan retracted the vine and turned to leave. She had only taken a few steps when she heard the man cough up blood and collapse.
“Are you poisoned?”
“…Yes.” Ji Sang was very surprised. Even without seeing the person, just hearing him cough up blood made it clear he was poisoned. Judging by this, the other must be an extremely skilled individual.
“C-could you… please, please help me? I still have important matters to attend to.” After speaking, Ji Sang struggled to lift himself up but soon collapsed again.
At the same time, he noticed a small figure step out from the shadows.
She was so small, so tiny like a fairy.
Perhaps she really was a fairy, otherwise, how could her small hand pressed against him be so gentle? Gentle enough to slowly drive away the discomfort inside him.
“Are you a fairy? Like the ones in storybooks, playing among the flowers?” Ji Sang’s eyelids were heavy as he spoke faintly.
He didn’t expect to hear an answer, but her soft voice entered his ears without warning.
“I’m not a fairy.”
He didn’t know how much time had passed, but Ji Sang realized the discomfort inside him had completely vanished, and his consciousness grew stronger and stronger. Strong enough to sit up and look steadily at Su Wan.
Next moment, “Wah…” he coughed up a large mouthful of black blood.
It was Su Wan who had used her spiritual power to expel the poison from his body.
Realizing this, Ji Sang was stunned and stared blankly at Su Wan.
Su Wan withdrew her spiritual power and stood up. “Your poison is gone. Leave now.”
“Wait, I don’t know how to repay this kindness. Please, allow me to show my gratitude.” Ji Sang called out to Su Wan as she was about to leave.
He knelt down before her, deeply shocked that such a young girl had such extraordinary abilities. And—she could manipulate vines?
No, it must be that she used internal energy to drive them; just her internal energy was exceptionally powerful.
Her master must be no ordinary person.
“Do you really want to repay me?” Su Wan stopped and turned around.
“Yes. A life-saving favor must be repaid. Whatever the task, I would do it without hesitation.” Ji Sang said firmly.
Su Wan smiled, “Then be my master.”
“What?” Ji Sang thought he misheard.
“I said, if you really want to repay me, be my master.”
Ji Sang was shocked. Such a peerless expert needed him to be her master? How could he understand this?
“Benefactor, I… I don’t quite understand.”
“It’s simple. You see my exceptional skills, right? But my family can’t be easily fooled. I need a master to showcase my talent. Understand?”
“So, you don’t have a master? You’re naturally extraordinary?”
“Yes.” Su Wan answered matter-of-factly.
Ji Sang was stunned and couldn’t speak for a long time.
Then he thought about how General Rong was already dead, and now he was weak and alone. Even if he returned to the capital, full of dangers, he wouldn’t be able to see the emperor. He certainly couldn’t go to the border. Why not just lie low in the village for a while?
“Alright then, I’ll temporarily take on the title of master, so I have a place to stay in the village. When the situation becomes clear, I’ll make further plans.” Ji Sang agreed after thinking for a moment.
Su Wan nodded slightly. “In that case, find a cave to heal your wounds. When the time is right, reveal yourself. I will inform my family of your identity. You must cooperate well and not reveal any secrets.”
“Remember, you’re the village’s expert. You not only saved my uncle but also saved my life, and killed many beasts on Mount Wei. Seeing my extraordinary bones, you accepted me as your disciple.”
Ji Sang cupped his fists and bowed. “I will follow the instructions of my benefactor.”
Su Wan gave a soft “hmph.” Passing by a dead man in black, a strange fragrance suddenly drifted into her nose.
She frowned, feeling a strange sense of familiarity with the scent.
But she couldn’t recall where it came from.
Unable to figure it out, she let it go.
When Su Wan dashed into the room, she saw Su Xinyao, who should have been asleep, crouching by the cauldron with a confused look. Her heart skipped a beat.
She wasn’t affected by the spiritual energy?
“Big sister Wan, what’s this?” Su Xinyao pointed at the jade cabbage and the cauldron, asking innocently.
“This is big sister’s secret. But you—why did you suddenly wake up?”
Su Wan stepped forward and held the little one, who was only wearing an undershirt, in her arms.
Su Xinyao tilted her head and said in a babyish voice, “I wanted to pee, so I woke up.”
That simple?
“Big sister Wan, are you making candy so late?”
Let me know your thoughts in the comments section.
