Chapter 20: Such an Opportunity Comes Only Once

Tang Feng checked the time and realized he could hand in his paper. Without any hesitation, he flipped his test paper over on the desk, grabbed his pencil case, and strode out of the classroom. The two teachers watched his departing figure, whispering to each other in amazement.

“Teacher Sun, is that student from our school?” one asked.

“I’m not sure. This examination room has students from both our school and No.9 Middle School,” the other replied.

“I carefully reviewed his test paper just now, and it feels like even if he doesn’t score full marks, he should at least get 140 points or more.”

“I feel the same way. The key is how quickly he answered the questions, without any hesitation. If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, I would have never believed our Binjiang District could have such an outstanding student.”

“Could he be the top student from our school?”

“That’s impossible! The top student in our school is Su Xiaoli, who has been first in her grade since she enrolled and has never been second.”

“In that case, this student might be strong in some subjects but weak in others, which is a bit of a pity.”

“There’s nothing we can do about that. After all, students are different. Some are stronger in humanities, and some in sciences. In fact, being strong in certain subjects isn’t bad. If one excels to the extreme in a subject, they can still secure a spot through competitions.”

“That’s true.” As they murmured among themselves, Tang Feng, humming a tune, walked out of the school with a spring in his step.

Reporters from Binjiang TV Station had been waiting at the gate for a while. Every year, the TV station sends reporters to cover the college entrance examination comprehensively.

“Student, hello! How did you find the Chinese exam? Was it difficult?” a reporter asked, extending the microphone toward him.

“I didn’t find it difficult. The majority of the questions were ones I had encountered before,” Tang Feng answered.

“Have you estimated your score? How much do you think you got?” the reporter continued to inquire.

“148 points.” The reporter was visibly stunned by this response and asked, “How many did you say?”

“148 points,” Tang Feng repeated.

“Where did you lose 2 points? Was it in the essay?” the reporter guessed.

“Right,” Tang Feng nodded.

As the reporter was about to continue the interview, another student came out from the school. Seeing this, Tang Feng quickly slipped away from the reporter and headed toward the tree where he had agreed to meet Su Xiaoli.

The reporter, having no choice, switched to another interviewee.

Tang Feng waited for a while before seeing Su Xiaoli emerge from the school gate. She seemed a bit downcast. Tang Feng quickly walked up to her.

“When did you come out?” Su Xiaoli asked before Tang Feng could speak.

“About half an hour ago,” he replied.

“Seeing how you are, you must have done well. I don’t think I did too good,” Su Xiaoli looked somewhat dejected, which made Tang Feng feel a bit sorry for her.

“Chinese has never been your strong suit. Besides, when I tutored you, we focused on mathematics, physics, and chemistry. As long as you can score full marks in those subjects, it’s okay if your Chinese and English scores are a bit lower,” Tang Feng consoled her.

Su Xiaoli nodded, “Let’s go home and have lunch.”

Soon, they arrived at Tang Feng’s house, where his mother had already prepared lunch. It was four dishes and a soup, both meat and vegetables included. Tang Feng and Su Xiaoli washed their hands and sat down at the dining table.

“Mom, come and eat with us!” Tang Feng called out.

“No need,” his mother waved her hand, “I have to go to the supermarket to bring your father his lunch.”

In a blink, his mother was out the door. Tang Feng and Su Xiaoli shared a smile and began to eat. Tang Feng occasionally put more dishes into Su Xiaoli’s bowl.

“Don’t just serve me, eat some yourself!” Su Xiaoli said, slightly embarrassed.

Their relationship had always seemed lukewarm over the years, but now, she could clearly feel Tang Feng’s warmth towards her, causing ripples in her heart. She never dreamed that Tang Feng would become so passionate about her, making her feel like the happiest woman in the world.

Tang Feng watched her, his smile never fading. Granted a second chance at life, he was determined to cherish and hold onto the opportunity to be with his beloved, knowing such chances are rare.

As time ticked by, they spent a full hour on their lunch. Checking the clock on the wall, Tang Feng asked, “Do you want to rest a bit?”

“No need,” Su Xiaoli shook her head, “The math exam is in an hour. I can’t risk oversleeping.”

“Don’t worry, I’m here. You won’t oversleep,” Tang Feng said, standing and offering his hand.

Blushing, Su Xiaoli didn’t refuse and stood up with him. They went to Tang Feng’s bedroom, where he suggested she lie down on the bed while he sat at his study desk.

“Aren’t you sleeping?” she asked, surprised.

“I’m too energized for a nap. You go ahead,” he reassured her.

After some hesitation, Su Xiaoli closed her eyes and soon fell asleep, the room enveloped in silence.

When it was almost time to leave for the afternoon exam, Tang Feng gently woke her. “

What time is it?” she sat up immediately.

“Half an hour before the exam,” he informed.

“Did you sleep at all?” she asked as they got ready to leave.

“No,” he shook his head.

“Thank you,” she unexpectedly expressed her gratitude.

“There’s no need for thanks between us. Let’s get going. Wash your face, and we’ll head out,” Tang Feng said, heading to the bathroom first, followed by Su Xiaoli.

After freshening up and tidying her slightly messy hair, they left the house. On their way to school, Tang Feng reviewed a few key points with Su Xiaoli that she hadn’t fully grasped before.

Arriving at their destination, they said their goodbyes and headed to their respective examination rooms.
