Chapter 32: Exchanging for the Chef’s Secret Manual (Part 1/2)
Tang Feng hummed a tune as he walked home.
On his way, he occasionally glanced at the bracelet Su Xiaoli had given him.
This was the second gift Su Xiaoli had given him.
No matter how many gifts he received, they were all precious to him.
Soon, he arrived at his family’s supermarket.
Even though it was close to 8 p.m., the supermarket was still open.
His father was sitting at the entrance, waiting for customers.
Tang Feng greeted him.
“How come you’re back so late? Where’s Xiaoli?” Tang Long asked while motioning for his son to sit down.
Tang Feng sat on a stool.
“Mainly because the long-distance bus from Binjiang to Daocheng runs too slowly. It took almost six hours just for the journey back and forth,” Tang Feng explained.
“The long-distance bus needs to make money, so it’s bound to take detours to pick up passengers. It might be better if you drive yourself. How about you take advantage of the summer vacation to get your driver’s license? I’ll buy you a cheap car,” Tang Long discussed with his son.
“That’s a great idea! I’ll ask Xiaoli to learn with me,” Tang Feng quickly agreed.
“I see you’re really bewitched! You can’t go three sentences without mentioning Su Xiaoli! I don’t know what kind of love potion she has given you,” Tang Long seemed somewhat helpless.
Tang Feng didn’t respond, just chuckled.
“Haven’t you eaten yet? Hurry back home! Your mom has left food in the pot for you,” Tang Long urged.
“What about you? Aren’t you coming home?” Tang Feng asked.
“I’ll wait here a bit longer. Maybe we can make a bit more money if someone comes,” Tang Long answered.
“It’s already 8 o’clock, probably no one will come. Let’s go home,” Tang Feng said, gently pulling his father up.
Having no choice, Tang Long agreed to his son’s wish and closed the shop to go home.
Soon, they arrived home.
His mother had just finished washing clothes and was about to take them out to the balcony to dry.
Seeing this, Tang Feng quickly put down what he was carrying and went to help.
After hanging the clothes, his mother brought out the food she had kept warm in the kitchen.
“Mom, I have some buns here. Heat them up for a bit, and you and dad can try them,” Tang Feng said, taking them out.
“Why did you bring buns home? If you want to eat them, I can make some for you tomorrow,” his mother complained a bit.
“These are famous Daocheng big buns. Xiaoli and I specifically bought a few extra at noon to bring back for you to try,” Tang Feng explained.
“Daocheng big buns are indeed delicious. A few years ago when I went to Daocheng District for errands, I also bought them once. But they are not cheap. I remember back then it was one yuan each,” Tang Long said.
“But these buns are indeed big, almost like the ones we make at home. Little feng, you eat first; I’ll heat them up,” his mother said and went to the kitchen.
Tang Feng started to gobble down the buns.
As the saying goes, “A growing boy can eat a man out of house and home.”
Now was his time to eat, especially since it was past the usual dinner time, and his stomach was clearly protesting.
After a while, his mother brought out the warmed buns.
“Dad, Mom, try these!” Tang Feng called out.
“We’ve already eaten. You go ahead,” his mother responded.
“I specifically brought these back for you. You must try them,” Tang Feng insisted.
With no other choice, Tang Long and his wife each ate a bun.
“The taste of the buns is really good. It must be because the filling is well prepared,” his mother commented while eating.
“Being able to sell at such a high price, there must be some tricks,” Tang Long laughed.
“It’s a pity the buns aren’t made fresh. Next time, I’ll take you directly to the store to eat,” Tang Feng said with a hint of regret.
“That’s already very good. In a few days, when we go to your grandmother’s house, you can eat the buns your grandmother makes,” his mother said.
Hearing the term “grandmother,” Tang Feng was momentarily stunned.
If his mother hadn’t suddenly mentioned it, he would have continued to think his grandmother had passed away.
After all, his grandmother had been dead for ten years before his rebirth.
In his memory, his impression of his grandmother had become increasingly vague.
Thinking he could see his grandmother again filled him with excitement.
“When are we going?” Tang Feng tried to control his emotions.
“This weekend. Then your big uncle, little uncle, and your second and third aunts will also go,” his mother answered.
“What about my little aunt?” Tang Feng asked almost instinctively.
“Isn’t your little aunt always living with your grandmother?” his mother was obviously puzzled.
Tang Feng then remembered that his little aunt, who was mentally challenged, had always lived with his grandmother.
Especially after his grandfather passed away, it was just his grandmother and little aunt together.
Later, after his grandmother passed away, his little aunt was taken care of by his uncles and aunts in turns.
“I just had a brain fart, forgot about that,” Tang Feng smiled awkwardly.
After dinner, Tang Feng rested for a while, then went to take a shower.
“Wife, our son has really grown up! Even when he’s out, he knows to bring something back for us,” Tang Long couldn’t help but sigh.
“Yes!” his mother nodded, “I didn’t expect him to change so much, clearly becoming more sensible. I guess relatives and friends will see him in a new light.”
“That’s for sure. Neither our family nor yours has produced a proper college student yet. And our son got into Jingcheng University; I feel like our ancestors are smiling down on us. Once the admission notice arrives, I want to take my son to visit the graves and share the good news with my parents,” Tang Long said, somewhat excited.
“It’s a pity your father has passed away. If he were still alive, he would have been extremely happy. After all, even until the day he died, he was still thinking about little Feng,” his mother sighed.
“Indeed. My dad always adored little Feng. When we used to go back to the countryside, he would take him up the mountains with his hunting rifle to hunt rabbits and catch wild chickens. Sadly, so many years have passed, and my dad has been dead for ten years,” Tang Long’s mood also dipped.
“Let’s not talk about this anymore! Your dad has passed away, but your mom is still alive. In a few days, when we go back to the countryside to celebrate my mom’s birthday, we can also visit your mom and bring her some food,” his mother decided.
“Alright,” Tang Long nodded.
After bathing and changing into new pajamas, Tang Feng returned to his bedroom.
Lying on the bed, he played with the bracelet Su Xiaoli had given him, staring at the ceiling and falling into thought.
Before his rebirth, his life, though not utterly insignificant, was just mediocre at best.
Earning a few thousand yuan a month, he was merely scraping by.
