Chapter 51: When One Man Gains Enlightenment, Even His Pets Ascend to Heaven (Part 1/2)
“Are you cooking? Little Feng, it feels like we should see you with new eyes after three days,” the little uncle said, eyeing Tang Feng.
Not just him, all the relatives turned their gaze towards Tang Feng.
Tang Feng didn’t say anything, just chuckled.
“Since Little Feng is willing, let him do it! It’s also a good chance for us to taste his cooking skills!” the grandfather decided.
“Mom, don’t worry! Little Feng’s culinary skills are really great! You will know soon,” Tang Feng’s Mother was particularly happy.
Previously, when returning to the hometown, her precious son was mostly ignored by others.
Most of the time, he would be daydreaming.
After meals, while others played cards, he would just watch.
She and her husband felt helpless about this situation.
Unexpectedly, their son had changed so much from before, truly making them proud!
She also eagerly hoped her son could showcase his talents in front of the relatives, shocking everyone.
“Little Feng, do you need me to help you?” Tang Long offered.
“No need,” Tang Feng waved his hand, saying, “You and grandpa go and have some tea on the kang.” (TL: A kang is a heatable platform used for sleeping and sitting on.)
Seeing this, Tang Long didn’t insist further.
“Little Tang, come inside!” the grandfather invited him.
Tang Long followed the grandfather inside, with the little uncle and others close behind.
“Little Juan, don’t just stand there! Little Feng will cook, and you’re in charge of the fire,” the second aunt instructed.
“Okay!” Little Juan agreed without hesitation, eager to learn from Tang Feng, seeing this as a great opportunity.
Tang Feng led Little Juan into the kitchen.
Since the grandfather’s house had a traditional kang, cooking was done on a stove that required burning wood.
However, meals prepared this way were also delicious.
As Little Juan started the fire, Tang Feng began cooking and teaching her some study methods.
Little Juan took note of everything, aware that the methods Tang Feng taught were very useful.
This was a chance to change her destiny!
So, she had to study extra hard!
Tang Feng shared these study methods without holding back.
After all, Little Juan was his cousin, and they were relatives. If he could help, he naturally would.
The grandfather and others sat on the kang, crossing their legs.
“How’s business lately?” the grandfather asked while pouring tea for Tang Long.
“Dad, let me do it!” Tang Long quickly took the teapot from the grandfather, saying, “I’ve already sold the supermarket.”
“Ah? Why is that? Is the business not doing well?” the grandfather became anxious.
“Not at all,” Tang Long shook his head, “The business was always decent. But now we have a better option.”
“A better option? Brother-in-law, did you find a lucrative opportunity?” the little uncle perked up.
“We’re planning to open a restaurant,” Tang Long revealed.
“Brother-in-law, the catering industry isn’t easy. Think it through!” the little uncle advised cautiously upon hearing this.
“Brother-in-law, why suddenly decide to open a restaurant? Is there a suitable place being transferred?” Tang Feng’s second uncle-in-law couldn’t help but speculate.
“No,” Tang Long shook his head, “We chose to open a restaurant entirely because of Little Feng.”
“What about Little Feng?” the second uncle-in-law appeared puzzled.
“Little Feng’s cooking is excellent! The dishes he makes are comparable to those of five-star hotel chefs!” Tang Long answered.
“Old Tang, are you serious? Little Feng can cook that well?” the grandmother was somewhat skeptical.
“Absolutely! He’s cooking right now. You’ll know if what I said is true once you taste his dishes!” Tang Long’s tone rose noticeably.
Everyone exchanged glances, silent.
They found it hard to believe Tang Long’s words.
After all, even Tang Long and his wife were incredulous when they first tasted their son’s cooking, having never dined in five-star hotels themselves.
Luckily, the dishes were served one after another.
“My goodness! This stir-fried shredded potatoes look too good!” the big uncle exclaimed.
“And the shredded potatoes are cut so finely, I think they could even pass through a needle eye! Little Feng’s knife skills are incredible!” the second aunt added.
“This deep-fried pork looks delicious! Not a bit of excess oil, so clean and neat!”
Everyone commented on the dishes as they were served.
“Grandpa, big uncle, why aren’t you starting to eat?” Tang Feng asked as he placed the “Di San Xian (TL: Stir Fried Eggplant, Potato and Pepper )” dish on the table.
“We were waiting for you! You’ve been busy for so long, sit down and eat something,” the grandfather responded with a smile.
“Alright! I’ll just put the fish to stew first!” Tang Feng agreed readily, not standing on ceremony.
Soon, Tang Feng and Little Juan joined everyone at the table.
The kang was full of seated people.
Everyone gathered around, talking and laughing, making for a very lively atmosphere.
Tang Feng felt deeply moved by this scene.
In his previous life, his grandparents had passed away one after another. Even when the family gathered for holidays, it was never as lively as now.
“Everyone, stop just looking, start eating!” the grandfather encouraged.
“Wait a moment!” Tang Feng interjected.
“What’s wrong?” the grandfather looked at him, puzzled.
“Where’s my aunt? I haven’t seen her since we arrived,” Tang Feng replied.
“She went out early in the morning! She’ll be back later, let’s eat first!” his grandfather suggested.
“That won’t do! On such an important day, she can’t be missing. I’ll go find her and bring her back for the meal!” Tang Feng said, then turned to leave.
“Little Tang, what’s going on? Why does Little Feng seem like a different person?” his grandfather asked, clearly confused.
“Maybe he feels that after taking the college entrance exams, he’s now an adult with his own opinions,” Tang Long suggested.
“You all start eating, I’ll go help look for her,” Tang Feng’s Mother said, putting down her chopsticks and stepping off the kang.
By then, Tang Feng had already found his aunt in the street.
She was playing with a group of children, which wasn’t surprising.
She was a “sugar baby,” meaning despite being in her twenties, her mental capacity was similar to that of a five or six-year-old child.
Seeing Tang Feng, she happily ran over to him, bouncing and skipping.
