Chapter 6: Tang Feng’s Request
Upon seeing this, his father snatched the phone away.
“Mr. He, we’ll be home at seven.,” his father said while glaring sternly at Tang Feng.
“Okay. After dinner, I’ll bring Principal Fang over,” He Yong nodded.
The call ended.
“Dad, why are you glaring at me? Don’t we close the supermarket at nine every night?” Tang Feng shrugged innocently.
“You rascal, the visitor is the principal. Do you expect him to visit our house after nine?” his father said, starting to clean up outside the supermarket.
His mother hurried to help.
Soon, his father pulled down the shutter of the supermarket and then went home with his wife and son.
Upon returning home, Tang Feng didn’t immediately sit down to eat.
He went straight to his bedroom.
The walls of his bedroom were adorned with several posters of female celebrities.
His study desk was cluttered with a pile of magazines.
Tang Feng flipped through them, finding issues of “Reader’s Digest”, “Youth Digest”, and “Soccer Weekly”.
Playing soccer was his favorite sport in high school.
But in college, his class had only two boys, not even enough for a soccer or basketball game.
For him, these were all fond memories.
Besides, he also pulled out two coverless novels from under his pillow.
He leafed through them briefly, then looked around to make sure no one was watching, and sighed in relief.
He carefully put away the novels.
Then he walked out.
The family finished dinner quickly.
Afterward, Tang Feng took the initiative to clear the table.
His parents exchanged puzzled glances.
“Son, what’s gotten into you? You’re never this eager to help,” his mother scrutinized him as if trying to discern something.
“You must have done something wrong; otherwise, you wouldn’t be so diligent. Out with it, your mom and I can take it,” his father was surprisingly calm.
“Dad, Mom, what are you talking about! I’ve been focusing on my studies recently and haven’t had time for chores. With the college entrance exams approaching, I don’t have much to review, so I might as well do some chores,” Tang Feng explained with a helpless look.
It seemed in his parents’ eyes, he was always the carefree, lazy type.
“Listen to this! He says he doesn’t have much to review! Son, when will you stop bragging?” his mother could barely suppress a laugh.
“Son, since you’re so brilliant, show us a perfect score sometime,” his father teased Tang Feng.
“I don’t know if the teacher will test me again. If not, we’ll have to wait for the college entrance exam results,” Tang Feng shrugged, exuding confidence.
“Son, how much did you score in the last mock exam?” his father inquired.
“About four hundred points,” Tang Feng replied.
“Four hundred eighty-two points! With that score, you might get into a second-tier university if you’re lucky. If not, you’ll only qualify for a community college. There are only about ten days left until the college entrance exam. You should practice more problems. Maybe you’ll get lucky and the exam will include some you’ve practiced,” his father said, picking up the dishes and heading to the kitchen.
His mother washed some fruits and placed them on the coffee table.
Then, someone knocked on the door.
Tang Feng opened it.
Standing at the door were Principal Fang and Mr. He.
“Principal Fang! Mr. He!” Tang Feng’s parents hurriedly invited them to sit down.
Principal Fang and Mr. He took seats on the sofa.
Tang Feng’s parents sat on stools.
“Principal Fang, Mr. He, what brings you to our home so late?” his father was visibly nervous.
“Today in the math teacher’s office, teachers from various subjects tested Tang Feng, and except for a point deducted in Chinese, he scored full marks in everything else. Principal Fang heard about this and immediately arranged for a home visit,” He Yong explained.
“Ah?” Tang Feng’s parents were stunned upon hearing this.
“I had the same reaction when I heard the news. Tang Feng, what’s this all about?” Principal Fang looked at him with puzzled eyes.
“It’s nothing. I just wanted to make a big impression,” Tang Feng responded casually.
“What’s your target score for the college entrance exams?” Principal Fang asked with a smile.
“Full marks!” Tang Feng blurted out without hesitation.
Principal Fang didn’t say anything, just exchanged a glance with Mr. He.
“Tang Feng, there are only ten days left until the college entrance exams. You don’t have to go to school before the exams; you can study at home,” Principal Fang decided.
“Really?” Tang Feng was somewhat incredulous.
Now that he had the Genius Secret Manual, he indeed didn’t need to waste time at school.
“Of course! If you have any other requests, feel free to make them,” Principal Fang said with a smile.
“I would like…” Tang Feng hesitated, unsure whether to speak up.
“Tang Feng, you don’t need to have any reservations. Just say whatever you want,” Mr. He encouraged him.
“I’d like Su Xiaoli to also skip school,” Tang Feng finally said.
“Why wouldn’t you want her to go to school?” Mr. He was visibly surprised.
“Tang Feng, is there a conflict between you and Su Xiaoli?” Principal Fang speculated.
“No,” Tang Feng shook his head, “I want to invite her to study at my house. That way, I can tutor her and help her get into Jingcheng University.”
Su Xiaoli’s grades had always been at the top of her class. However, with Jingcheng University accepting only about 150 students from Dongshan Province each year, her admission was uncertain. Tang Feng’s offer to tutor her could be great news, but it was uncertain if she would accept his good intentions.
“I’ll ask her tomorrow when I go to school to collect my books. If she agrees, I’ll tutor her at home,” Tang Feng smiled.
“Great! With your tutoring, I believe she can achieve even better results,” Mr. He agreed readily.
Since the testing session, he had been excited about Tang Feng’s potential.
Having a student from his teaching history accepted into Jingcheng University or Tsinghua University was an annual highlight. If two students were accepted this time, it would be a record and an honor for him.
“It’s getting late; we won’t keep you from resting any longer. Tang Feng, I look forward to hearing good news from you,” Principal Fang stood up.
Mr. He and the others also stood.
After saying goodbye to Tang Feng’s parents, Principal Fang and Mr. He left.
