Red Bride of the Seventies: The Iron-Willed Officer’s Fortunate Little Wife Chapter 9

Chapter 9

Hearing the voice, Jiang Ning stopped and slowly turned around.

Her eyes fell on a figure not far behind her. It was a thin, gentle-looking man with a bookish air.

The man’s skin was a healthy wheat color. He stood there, looking at Jiang Ning quietly, his eyes revealing a hint of sadness and helplessness.

Jiang Ning stared at him, recalled it in his mind, and tried to recognize him through the original owner’s memory.

After thinking for a long time, she finally recognized him, “Bai Yu?”

Bai Yu nodded, his voice a little low: “Jiang Ning, I just came back from visiting my relatives yesterday, and I heard from the villagers that you got married.”

His words seemed to contain endless regret and loss.

Jiang Ning looked at Bai Yu, frowned slightly, and did not answer.

Bai Yu’s expression became increasingly sad, his gaze always fixed on Jiang Ning, as if he wanted to see her true thoughts through her eyes.

He couldn’t help but feel secretly annoyed and regretful in his heart, hating his own cowardice and incompetence.

He once promised to protect Jiang Ning, but now he can only watch her jump into the fire pit.

God knows, when he learned that Jiang Ning was sold by his uncle and aunt to a dying man to bring good luck, his heart felt like it was being torn apart.

“Bai Yu, I have something to do at home, so I’ll leave first.”

Jiang Ning couldn’t stand Bai Yu looking at her with hurt eyes. She didn’t know whether the original owner liked Bai Yu or not, but she had no feelings for him.

Without waiting for Bai Yu to say anything else, Jiang Ning pulled Ji Yansui away quickly.

On the way back, Ji Yansui looked at Jiang Ning, who had an expressionless face, from time to time, opening and closing his mouth, as if he wanted to say something but stopped.

“Just ask whatever you want to ask?” Jiang Ning suddenly said.

Ji Yansui was stunned when she heard this. She looked at Jiang Ning in surprise, “Sister-in-law, how did you know I had something to say?”

Jiang Ning smiled faintly, “Just ask whatever you want to ask. I have patience, but not much.”

Upon hearing this, Ji Yansui quickly asked the first question she was concerned about, “Sister-in-law, is Bai Yu interested in you?”

“I don’t know. He used to take good care of me and helped me when I had no food to eat.” Jiang Ning said frankly.

“What about you, sister-in-law? How do you treat him…”

“I don’t have any feelings or ideas!” Jiang Ning replied.

Ji Yansui grinned when he heard this, and seemed very satisfied with this answer.

“Sister-in-law, let me ask you again, will you be angry with our family… um um um…” Ji Yansui asked hesitantly.

Jiang Ning chuckled when she heard that. She knew what Ji Yansui wanted to ask. It was simply to ask her if she would blame the Ji family for buying her to bring good luck.

“No, even though your family bought me here to bring good luck, they never treated me harshly. Moreover, your family saved me from suffering, so I naturally don’t blame you.”

After hearing what Jiang Ning said, Ji Yansui’s eyes sparkled, “Sister-in-law, you are so kind! I knew you were a good person.”

As she spoke, she took Jiang Ning’s arm and smiled.

“Sister-in-law, you were so handsome when you were confronting them just now. You made them speechless. It was so satisfying just watching you.”

Ji Yansui praised with great joy, “Haha~ Crush it and use it as fertilizer for the fields…”

The two returned home quickly. Tian Yufang was worried and did not go to work. When she saw her daughter-in-law and daughter coming back, she hurried forward to ask what happened.

“Ningning, you’re back. What happened at your uncle’s house?”

“It’s okay, it was just burned down by a fire.” Jiang Ning said calmly, as if she was talking about someone else’s house instead of her uncle’s.

“Ah? Is that person okay?” Tian Yufang asked worriedly.

“It’s all burned to charcoal!” Ji Yansui interrupted, his tone as relaxed as if the dead ones were ants on the roadside.

“Ah?” Tian Yufang was shocked. After thinking for a moment, she quickly said to her daughter, “Sui Sui, go to the fields and find it for your father. Let’s go to our in-laws to see if they need any help.”

No need, they are not your relatives.” Jiang Ning said and walked into the house.

Tian Yufang looked at her daughter-in-law’s departing back in surprise, with a confused look on her face.

Seeing this, Ji Yansui took her mother’s arm and said, “Mom, I’m hungry. Let’s make lunch! I’ll tell you more about my sister-in-law.”

Jiang Ning returned to his room and just sat down when he heard someone knocking on the door outside the yard.

Bai Yu actually came to the Ji family.

When he saw Jiang Ning appear at the door, his eyes instantly became complicated.

He walked forward, looked at Jiang Ning and said, “I still can’t let you go. I want to take you away.”

Before Jiang Ning could say anything, Ji Yansui rushed out of the kitchen and stood in front of her, saying coldly: “She is my sister-in-law now, please go back.”

Jiang Ning gently pulled Ji Yansui, signaling her to step back.

“Sister-in-law” Ji Yansui looked at her nervously.

Jiang Ning gave her a reassuring look, “It’s okay.”

She looked at Bai Yu and said, “Bai Yu, go back. I won’t go with you.”

“Jiang Ning, are you blaming me for not taking you away earlier? Are you blaming me for being too weak?” Bai Yu was dejected.

Jiang Ning sighed, “Bai Yu, I don’t blame you, but I’m married now. The Ji family treats me very well, and I want to live a good life with them. Let the past be the past.”

Bai Yu’s eyes were red, “But I really care about you, you are the only one in my heart.”

Jiang Ning’s expression was calm. “You can’t force feelings. I don’t have any romantic feelings for you. Besides, I’m very satisfied with my current life.”

Tian Yufang walked out of the kitchen, holding the door frame nervously. From Bai Yu’s words, she instantly understood what was going on.

She slowly walked forward, stood in front of Jiang Ning, and said coldly: “Comrade, please don’t bother my daughter-in-law again. She is now a member of our Ji family.”

Bai Yu looked at Tian Yufang, then at Jiang Ning’s resolute eyes, knowing that he was too rash and it was useless to continue pestering him.

He nodded silently and said, “Jiang Ning, I wish you happiness.” After that, he turned around and left dejectedly.

Jiang Ning returned to the room and walked to the bed and sat down. At this moment, she saw Ji Yanli’s eyelids suddenly tremble a few times and then slowly opened.

Those were a pair of eagle-like sharp eyes; though weak, they were clear and alert.

“Who are you?” He asked doubtfully when he saw Jiang Ning, his voice hoarse but with an authority that could not be ignored.

“Who am I? I’ll ask your parents to tell you,” Jiang Ning said calmly, but she couldn’t utter the words “bride for good luck.”

Ji Yanli tried to stand up, but fell back due to weakness.

Jiang Ning quickly supported him: “Don’t move, your injury hasn’t healed yet, and saving people is quite troublesome. Don’t cause trouble for me.”

“You saved me?” He frowned.

“Well, it can’t be explained in just a few words, so I won’t tell you the details.” Jiang Ning said, turned and walked out of the room, shouting towards the kitchen, “Mom, Sui Sui, Yan Li is awake!”

There was a loud bang from the kitchen, like the sound of something heavy falling to the ground, and then Tian Yufang and Ji Yansui rushed out of the kitchen in a hurry.

“Ningning, what did you say? Is Yanli awake?”

“Yes, he’s awake!” Jiang Ning said with certainty.

Tian Yufang and Ji Yansui rushed into the room and were surprised and happy to see Ji Yanli woke up.

Tian Yufang’s eyes were red, and she quickly stepped forward to hold Ji Yanli’s hand, her voice trembling: “Son, you are finally awake, you scared me so much.”

Ji Yansui was also wiping tears from the side, “Brother, you finally woke up.”

Ji Yanli looked at his family in front of him, then looked at Jiang Ning standing beside him, his heart full of doubts.

Before he could ask, Tian Yufang took Jiang Ning’s hand and said to Ji Yanli, “Son, this is your wife, Jiang Ning. If it weren’t for her, you would be dead.”

Ji Yanli looked at Jiang Ning, with even more doubt in his eyes. When did he get a wife?
