After resting at home for four days and almost catching up on missed classes, Yu Mian was ready to go to school.
Shengming University wasn’t far from the Yu family’s house but instead of staying there or on campus, the other Yu Mian got an apartment outside and rarely went to school. When Yu Mian arrived at school on Monday morning, the fragmented memories in her mind were so poor that they couldn’t even provide her with the specific information about her class and courses.
She stood in place while scrolling through her phone to see if there was a class schedule or the like.
The result was obvious. The photo album on this phone contained the most pictures of Chu Yan and there was no course schedule she was looking for.
However, she also found something useful. Yu Mian saw the class group on WeChat. The group name clearly read: 19th Comprehensive Art, Class 2.
Holding the mobile phone, Yu Mian once again fell into a conundrum. She knew the name of the class, but where was it located?
She swiped through the screen and a few dialog boxes flashed before her eyes. Suddenly, she caught a glimpse of an unfamiliar but somewhat memorable name from the corner of her eye and her fingertips paused.
Xia Yushu?
She seemed to be one of her roommates, but she couldn’t remember exactly.
Freshmen and sophomores at Shengming University were required to live in the dormitory, however, it wasn’t forced. The other Yu Mian had only been to the dormitory a few times, or in other words, she had only been to school a few times. She vaguely remembered Xia Yushu because when they were first divided into dormitories, the two exchanged contact information.
And it seemed that Xia Yushu was also a class officer. When Yu Mian first became the other Yu Mian, Xia Yushu was the one who informed her that the counselor was looking for her.
Looking down at the phone, Yu Mian hesitated for a while whether she should ask Xia Yushu for direction.
She kept her head down in contemplation, not noticing the faint glance people was casting on her.
Yu Mian was wearing a long-sleeved dress that day, which was still prepared by Mother Yu. The almost ink-blue color was like the deep sea, making her skin look fairer. It was perfectly tailored and outlined her slim waist. The design was simple and without any unnecessary decorations. The wide doll collar added a touch of playfulness and cuteness, and the ankle-length skirt gently swayed as she moves, making it elegant and lovely.
She didn’t bother to put on makeup because she wasn’t good at it. Her small face had no makeup on but her facial features were delicate and her skin was good. It has a natural tinge of pink.
In well-known art school like Shengming University, most of the students were from well-off backgrounds, and the girls have long learned how to dress themselves up. There were all kinds of beautiful girls that everyone was somewhat exhausted looking at them.
It was school time in the morning and there were many people on campus. When they saw the girl in the blue dress standing under a tree, the students who had already seen so many beauties couldn’t help their eyes from lighting up.
Many girls habitually dress themselves in a mature direction. There’s also a saying that cuteness wasn’t worth mentioning in front of sexiness, which was proof of the extraordinary charm of mature women.
Most of the girls in school were gorgeous and charming. Even though they were only around 20 years old, they all look enchanting.
Girls as fresh and natural as Yu Mian weren’t often seen on university grounds anymore.
Such a girl was like a gentle wind or a dream people had in their youth. Her clean and soft appearance was extremely eye-catching.
During the time when she had her head lowered, there were only few people passing by that didn’t look at her. Seeing her slightly frowning and troubled look, several boys were already ready to move forward to strike up a conversation.
“……Yu Mian?”
Hearing someone calling her name, Yu Mian snapped out of her thoughts and followed the sound.
Not far in front of her stood a girl in glasses who was looking at her with uncertainly, surprise and scrutiny evident in her eyes.
Yu Mian couldn’t remember who this person was. After all, the other Yu Mian didn’t care about her studies at all, nor did she pay attention to the people in class. The memories of her classmates in her mind were pitifully few.
But seeing as how this person called out to her, she should be either her classmate, or someone who knows her.
“I’m Yu Mian. You are……?” Yu Mian asked with some embarrassment.
The girl didn’t care whether Yu Mian recognized her or not, but seeing that it was indeed Yu Mian, the girl’s eyes widened in shock and she murmured incredulously, “So it’s really you.”
Was it that weird to see her come to school?
Before Yu Mian could ask, the girl gave her a strange look and said, “You’ve changed a lot, I almost didn’t recognize you.”
“Mm…… I had a serious illness and the way I think have also changed a lot. I’m going for a different look now.” Yu Mian had thought up reasons before coming out.
The other party didn’t suspect anything. It was probably because they were not familiar with each other in the first place.
“You probably don’t remember me. I’m Xia Yushu. I sent you a message before.”
It turned out that the other party was Xia Yushu. It was really a bit coincidental. Yu Mian looked at Xia Yushu carefully, taking note of her appearance so that she would recognize the other party when they meet next time. Otherwise, it would appear rude.
Yu Mian still explained a little, “I remember you now. I fell ill a while ago and can’t remember many things clearly. I even forgot where our class is. I was just about to call and ask you.”
Xia Yushu said, “We have a lesson right now at Room 302 of Liubai Building. Let’s go, I’ll take you there.”
As for what Yu Mian said about falling ill, Xia Yushu didn’t believe it at all. Although she hadn’t seen Yu Mian often, she’d seen her behavior. Every time she comes to school, she would only stay for a while and then leave. She never talked to anyone in the class. Most of the time, her eyes were fixed on her phone, almost as if her disdain for people was written on her face.
So when Yu Mian said that she didn’t remember where their class was or Xia Yushu who was a classmate, Xia Yushu wasn’t surprised at all.
Though she didn’t know why Yu Mian changed her style. She looked different from before and seemed to be much easier to talk to. Even the ways she dressed was different, as if she was a different person.
But Xia Yushu was only puzzled for a moment. She didn’t have a good impression of the arrogant rich girl. She only took the initiative to talk to her because of her duty as the class monitor.
The two of them looked at each other in silence until they arrived at the Liubai Building that Xia Yushu was talking about.
Room 302 was the fixed classroom for their class. When Yu Mian arrived, there were already several students in the classroom who had come early.
There was still nearly half an hour before class started. Yu Mian asked Xia Yushu where her seat was. After sitting down, she carefully looked around.
Different from the classrooms she was used to, this room was very large and spacious. Each desk was spread out and there’re tables with paint brushes and some tools on top. There was an open space at the back of the classroom where easels and canvases were placed.
It seemed similar to what she expected. Students majoring in art basically paint in class.
However, she also noticed that the desks of her classmates were filled with things and only hers was empty.
Just as she was checking out these things, the classroom, which had been a bit noisy with people talking, suddenly quieted down at some point.
Realizing this, Yu Mian looked around and met pairs of hastily evading eyes. She turned her head on another direction and a group of people who were examining her instinctively withdrew their gazes.
Were they looking at her?
Yu Mian touched her face, a bit confused about the situation.
Could it be that her coming to class was a very unusual thing? Was it necessary to look at her as if she’s a gorilla?
What she didn’t know was that other Yu Mian was very famous in school. And it wasn’t about just blatantly skipping classes. There were many rich kids like her who come there to get academic qualifications. She stood out for other reasons.
For example, last month, Yu Mian blocked a senior sister in the women’s lavatory and humiliated her just because she’s a fan of Lin Jianshen, who was Chu Yan’s rival.
She liked Chu Yan, so she made it known to the world, for fear that some people wouldn’t know, and she also wouldn’t allow others to say anything bad about Chu Yan, otherwise she would cause trouble for whoever it was.
Fortunately, the other Yu Mian seldom comes to school and there weren’t many incidents like with the senior sister. Otherwise, she would have been stabbed to death by everyone’s gaze, and the school wouldn’t let her continue to behave wildly.
Yu Mian just felt that these people were looking at her strangely and that they seemed to be distancing themselves from her.
Until class started, no one took the initiative to talk to Yu Mian. She also didn’t remember them and couldn’t tell who was who. Moreover, she had an introverted personality and wasn’t very outgoing, so she just sat quietly in her seat and read the textbook she brought.
Because she didn’t know the specific courses for the day, she made a point of bringing a schoolbag filled with a pile of brand-new and unopened textbooks from home. However, she didn’t have much space for all of her painting materials.
Fortunately, this class was about modern art appreciation and there was no need to paint. Just a textbook was enough. The class lasted for an hour and a half, with a ten-minute break in between. Yu Mian listened very carefully and took notes from time to time.
This completely different appearance of hers shocked countless people to the point where their jaws were almost on the ground.
After one lesson, the morning class was over. Yu Mian also got the class schedule from a classmate. Seeing that there was one more class in the afternoon and that she couldn’t stay home for long even if she came back, she decided to just stay in school and wander around.
But she didn’t expect to be stopped just as she walked out of the classroom door.
There were several girls standing in the corridor outside. They were obviously not from Comprehensive Art Class 2. Yu Mian had taken note of her classmates’ appearance during the teacher’s roll call and these girls weren’t among them.
Moreover, Yu Mian remembered the face of one of them. In her memory, it was this person who called the other Yu Mian fat, leading to her becoming obsessed with losing weight to the point where she had to be taken to the hospital, and in the end, lose her life.
Yu Mian came out relatively late and everyone in class was almost gone, so she walked out slowly.
One of the girls stopped her, “Schoolmate, is Yu Mian from your class here?”
They didn’t seem to recognize her. Another girl looked into the empty classroom and didn’t see the person they were looking for. She asked strangely, “Didn’t they say Yu Mian came to class today? How come we didn’t see her? Did Xu Yao lie to us?”
The girl who asked Yu Mian earlier said, “No way, I asked clearly.” She turned her head and asked Yu Mian again, “Schoolmate, is Yu Mian in class just now?”
Yu Mian pursed her lips, not quite understanding their purpose for coming, but still replied, “Yes.”
