In late December, the temperature in X City dropped significantly, and winter arrived on time at a leisurely pace.
One morning, Yu Mian opened her eyes from her sleep and saw a world covered in white outside the window. She was stunned for a moment before she realized that it was snowing.
She immediately jumped out of bed, put on a thick cotton coat and ran downstairs.
Father and Mother Yu were having breakfast downstairs. They were used to getting up early while Yu Mian often stayed up late painting, so she would always lazed in bed for a while.
Suddenly seeing her daughter coming down at this time, Mother Yu was surprised. “Mianmian, why did you get up so early today?”
In the past, Yu Mian would get up on time, but after discovering that her parents doted on her, she began acting spoiled and had learned to stay in bed.
Hearing her mother’s question, Yu Mian’s face became a little hot. However, she still came towards her parents, put her arms around Mother Yu’s, and said coquettishly, “Mom, it’s snowing! I want to go out to play~”
Father Yu’s brows furrowed upon hearing her words. “You’re going out to play in the snow? You’re already this big, why are you still as immature as a child?”
As soon as Father Yu’s words fell, Mother Yu complained, “Why are you lecturing the child like this?! Mianmian is still young. Don’t scare her with your stern face all day long.” She turned to her daughter and smiled lovingly. “Your dad is just like this. It’s hard to hear him say a few nice words. Don’t be afraid, Mianmian, if you want to go out and play, then go ahead. Just remember to dress warmly so you won’t freeze.”
After spending time with them, how could Yu Mian not know the temperament of the Yu parents? Father Yu was a standard strict father, but he loves her as much as his mother. This pair of parents love her as their daughter from the bottom of their hearts.
Yu Mian sat with her parents and ate breakfast peacefully, then wrapped herself up tightly at the behest of Mother Yu.
“You must wear gloves, scarves, and earmuffs.” Mother Yu checked everything carefully.
Father Yu said seriously, “You’re not allowed to play in the snow with bare hands, understand?”
“I know, I know.” Yu Mian smiled and walked up to the two, giving each of them a big bear hug.
She’s dressed like a real bear now as the coat she was wearing was extra thick and furry. She looked like a round ball when walking in the snow in the yard.
The winter in X city was very cold and the outdoor temperature was below zero. It snowed all night and the villa’s large yard was all covered up, making people’s entire shoe sink when they stepped on it.
It’s not that she suddenly regained her childlike innocence, it was just that the moment she saw the snow, she recalled a scene from her childhood. She was only five or six years old at the time. When she saw snowflakes dancing and falling from the sky, she ran out to play in the snow. Her original parents surrounded her and built a small snowman with her.
The little snowman was placed on her windowsill and accompanied Yu Mian throughout the cold winter.
Later, she had an inexplicable fondness for snowy days. Whenever it snowed, she would build a snowman for herself and place it on the window edge, so that she would feel as if she was no longer alone.
Yu Mian turned to look at the villa. Behind her, Father and Mother Yu were standing at the front door, watching her from a distance.
Yu Mian was unable to see their faces clearly but she subconsciously showed a bright smile.
Now, she was really no longer alone.
Yu Mian bent down clumsily, cupped the clean snow, and then balled it up into a small snowball. She rolled it on the ground, turning it into a bigger one. She huff and puff while running around, her face flushed from the heat and filled with a happy smile.
Lin Jianshen came over at this time. He didn’t drive in, but just stopped by to take a look, so he parked the car outside the entrance.
Therefore, Yu Mian didn’t notice that someone was watching her for a long time not far away.
He watched her face full of innocence as she gleefully built a big snowman. She used braches as hands, then bounced into the house to get carrots to make a long nose for the snowman. She proceeded by secretly pulling off her thick gloves to make a smaller snowman.
Her fair hands were red from the cold as she carefully picked up the small snowman and prepared to head back the house.
At that moment, Lin Jianshen called out to her, “Yu Mian.”
Yu Mian was shocked!
She jerked her head back and saw an unexpected person.
Almost immediately, Yu Mian stood there blankly, unable to speak or move her eyes. All she could think about was, how long had he been there? Did he saw her foolishly playing in the snow?
The man approached slowly. He was wearing a dark plaid scarf with his hands in his pockets. His slender figure was wrapped in a thick down jacket, still upright as a strong pine tree. His fair face was clear and elegant, with long eyelashes and deep set eyes, a straight nose and thin lips, and a gaze that was profound and seemed indifferent.
Yu Mian watched stupidly as he walked up to her, then bent down slightly and lowered his eyes to look at her hands.
She subconsciously followed his gaze. The next second, the small snowman she held in her palm was taken away by a broad palm.
At the same time, another warm and dry hand unexpectedly and naturally grasped hers. Her cold fingertips touched his. It was obviously not that warm, but she felt a strange burning heat surged up from it.
He said, “Your hands are so cold. Remember to wear gloves when playing in the snow.”
White mist formed from his breath and spread into the air. Yu Mian jolted and came back to her senses.
She quickly pulled out her hands, but only retrieved one as the other was being clutched by him.
It was a tight and firm grasp.
Yu Mian didn’t dare to move. She turned into a cooked shrimp. Her whole body was burning and the top of her head was almost smoking.
Her eyelashes trembled, her hands and feet were so stiff that she didn’t know where to put them, and her eyes were unconsciously wandering around, just not landing at the person next to her.
“I’m wearing gloves, but I want a small snowman and it can’t be done with them on.”
Even at this point where her head was about to burn into mush, Yu Mian still remembered to answer him.
Then, she felt her hand being tucked into a warm place. She clenched her hand into a fist in nervousness, and his palm easily wrapped around it, sending a steady stream of heat from all directions.
Out of the corner of her eye, Lin Jianshen seemed to be looking at her. “Then from now on, if you want to make a small snowman, I can help you make it.”
Yu Mian stopped talking. She pursed her lips tightly, fearing that she would say something stupid.
Lin Jianshen led her back to the villa and into the warm living room before letting her go as if nothing had happened.
Father and Mother Yu were watching TV in the living room. They weren’t surprised at all when they saw the two of them coming in together. Mother Yu greeted Lin Jianshen with a smile on her face, instructed someone to serve him honey citron tea, and asked him the reason for his visit.
Father Yu, on the other hand, kept a stern face and didn’t have much of a good expression. In the past, even when he saw Lin Jianshen and his daughter disliking each other, he remained full of admiration for him. But now that he had finally developed a good relationship with his daughter, he felt uncomfortable in his heart.
While Lin Jianshen was talking to her parents, Yu Mian quietly took the small snowman from his palm and pattered up the stairs.
Her shoes and trousers got wet when playing with the snow. Yu Mian had just changed into clean clothes and the blush on her face had still not faded when there was a gentle knock on the door of her room.
Normally, no one at home would knock on her door at this time, so she could imagine who was outside.
Fortunately, their previous communication wasn’t without effect. Yu Mian took several deep breaths and finally maintained her heartbeat at a not too intense level. The heat on her face also decreased and her mind became slightly calmer.
She opened the door and tilted her head. The man at the door was looking down at her and their eyes quietly collided.
Yu Mian instantly felt as if she had fallen into the bottomless sea. The gentle water surrounded her, and the soft and warm scent embraced her. The sea water was everywhere, but it didn’t drown her, instead it revolved around her with infinite tolerance.
It was only an instant but it seemed to have been a long time.
The young woman on the other side of the door blinked. Her soft dark hair was draped on her shoulders and the tips of her ears poking out were unknowingly dyed a delicate light pink color.
“Why did you…… come here?” Sitting on the sofa, Yu Mian’s eyes shifted.
Lin Jianshen’s voice was gentle, ringing in her ears, “I came to X city to do some business and stopped by to see you.”
Yu Mian clasped her hands together and picked at her nails unconsciously.
She raised her eyes apprehensively, then gave him a probing look, “Y-you came to see me?”
Lin Jianshen smiled. He rarely smiled like this, at least in front of the camera. There were only a handful of times when he smiled so genuinely. It filled his eyes, causing the vast and deep sea to ripple with a layer of light waves.
“Who else would I be coming to see other than you?” He asked back. After a pause, he asked as if puzzled, “Why are you so nervous every time you see me? Are you afraid of me?”
Yu Mian looked at his smile and froze once again.
It took her a while to respond to his question. She hurriedly shook her head. “No, I’m not afraid of you!”
Lin Jianshen leaned back slightly on the couch, his slender legs crossed together, his arms resting on the armrests of the sofa, and his fingers loosely crossed together. This was a very relaxed stance, which also expressed the person’s habit of taking control of the overall situation.
He smiled and asked, “But you act as if you’re afraid I’ll eat you. Don’t be, I don’t eat people.”
Yu Mian’s neck turned red. What should she say? That she was just shy?
Fortunately, Lin Jianshen soon stopped pursuing the issue. He looked at the window not far away. Through the transparent glass, he could see the small snowman on the windowsill.
The last time he was there, he didn’t pay much attention to the decoration of the room. This time he sat there and looked around.
The warm, soft scent hit his face, the same feeling she gave him.
Lin Jianshen looked away from a watercolor painting hanging on the wall and turned at the girl in front of him again. The little joke just now seemed to make her relax a little, and she no longer looked like a frightened little rabbit trying to escape.
“I came this time because I want to ask you for something.”
The man suddenly became serious and his tone became solemn. Yu Mian sat up straight and said without thinking, “What do you want? As long as I have it, I’ll give it to you.”
This had been a fan habit for many years, and it was also the true thought in her heart. She was willing to give him anything as long as she has it.
Lin Jianshen’s eyes flickered slightly as he gazed deeper into her eyes, and then said word by word, “The contract the two of us signed before, I want it. Will you give it to me?”
