Rejected Marriage Proposal I Married a Cold-Faced Officer and Had Two Kids in Three Years Chapter 25

Chapter 25 – This Girl Really Has Terrible Sleeping Habits

Xu Nuo had never been the type to act coy, but the man in front of her was someone she barely knew before marrying. And now, here they were—about to sleep on the same bed, clothes off. That… was a bit awkward.

To distract herself, Xu Nuo shifted her gaze away and took a simple look around the unfamiliar room she now shared.

A wardrobe.
A desk.
A bookshelf that covered one entire wall, stuffed with books.
And, of course, the bed.

Simple.
It was all really simple.

Lu Chen had already taken off his shirt, leaving only a dark green tank top. When he turned around, he saw Xu Nuo’s wide eyes taking in the room.

Only then did he realize—up until now, Xu Nuo had been staying in the guest room downstairs. Her clothes and belongings were all still on the first floor.

“It’s getting late. Go ahead and wash up. I’ll bring your things upstairs,” Lu Chen said.

“No need, I’ll go myself,” Xu Nuo replied instinctively. She was used to handling everything on her own.

“It’s just a small task,” he replied casually, already heading downstairs, leaving Xu Nuo to freshen up upstairs.

Everything in the room was designed for two people—two sets of toiletries, two towels. One green set clearly issued by the army, the other pink and obviously store-bought.

Xu Nuo naturally picked up the pink toothbrush and towel and went to the bathroom on the second floor to wash up.

By the time she returned, Lu Chen had already brought her things up.

“My leave ends the day after tomorrow, so I’ll be heading back to the base early in the morning. I need to get my things packed tonight,” Lu Chen said.

“Alright,” Xu Nuo nodded.

Her packing was easy—she didn’t bring a single thing that belonged to the original Xu Nuo. Everything she now owned had been bought with Lu Chen.

When she opened the suitcase, she was surprised to see everything inside neatly arranged. The clothes were folded as uniformly as blocks of tofu—even the undergarments were folded beautifully.

No wonder Lu Chen had taken a while to come back up. He hadn’t just grabbed her suitcase—he’d repacked it for her.

So meticulous. So precise.
Well, he was a soldier. The inside of his suitcase was basically a work of art.

Xu Nuo, on the other hand, was notoriously bad at folding clothes. Every time she traveled for work, her suitcase looked like an explosion. Clothes were crammed in however they fit, and she’d just force it shut.

Once at the airport, she had to open her suitcase for inspection. The moment it popped open, clothes and toiletries practically flew out, giving everyone an eyeful.

Even a child laughed and said, “Auntie’s suitcase is messier than what I fold at kindergarten!”

Xu Nuo had wanted to crawl into a hole right then and there. She’d vowed to find a boyfriend who could fold clothes.

Well.
Wish granted.

Her lips curved up slightly. “Thanks! Did you get your stuff packed already?”

Lu Chen held up a small travel bag and shook it. “It’s all in here.”

A massive suitcase for her, and just a simple bag for him. The contrast was almost comical.

“Once you’re done washing up, get some rest. We have to get up early tomorrow,” Lu Chen said, lifting the washbasin and heading out again.

Perfect!
Xu Nuo let out a breath of relief. At least she didn’t have to deal with any awkwardness tonight.

From the look of it, he didn’t intend to get intimate. And honestly, getting close to a stranger like that would’ve made her extremely uncomfortable.

While Lu Chen was still out, she quickly stripped down to just a tank top and underwear, then crawled into bed.

Only… there was just one blanket. A bath towel–type one at that. Wasn’t this a bit much?

When she lifted it up, she realized it was a double towel blanket.

Well, alright then.

Since they were married now, there was no need to be overly sensitive about it.

Xu Nuo flipped the towel blanket sideways and draped it over herself, scooting to the right side of the bed and curling up.

By the time Lu Chen came back from washing up, only a small lamp was on at the head of the bed—and Xu Nuo was already lying down.

The bed was about 1.2 meters wide, and Xu Nuo, sleeping on her side, took up almost a third of it. The remaining two-thirds were left for Lu Chen.

Lu Chen stood by the bedside watching for a while. Seeing her breathing slow and steady, he knew she was already asleep.

These past days, preparing for the wedding and taking a long trip back to her hometown had truly exhausted her.

It was no surprise she fell into a deep sleep on their wedding night.

Since they had to set off early to return to the military base the next day, Lu Chen didn’t hesitate. He got into bed, gently lifted the towel blanket to the other side, and lay down.

Between them lay what seemed like a wide river.

Lu Chen turned off the bedside lamp and closed his eyes, preparing to sleep. Just as he was about to drift off, Xu Nuo suddenly flipped over, and one of her legs thudded right onto his body.

Startled, he opened his eyes and switched the lamp back on.

Under the orange light, he clearly saw Xu Nuo had rolled right next to him. Her leg, draped over him, was slender and white, the smooth skin shining like a peeled egg.

His leg was trapped underneath, the contrast between his tanned calf and her pale leg stark.

Xu Nuo herself was completely unaware, sound asleep with her eyes closed. Her long black hair was tousled on her shoulder. Moving his gaze slightly downwards, Lu Chen saw a deep and alluring cleavage.

He stopped looking there, softly calling, “Xu Nuo, wake up.”

Groggily, she mumbled, “Don’t disturb me…”

Lu Chen raised an eyebrow. If this was how she slept, it wasn’t exactly unbearable.

Just as he turned off the light and settled back, Xu Nuo shifted her upper body toward him, wrapping her two soft arms tightly around him like vines, entwining him completely.

Lu Chen: “…”

He really didn’t expect her to have such terrible sleeping habits!

Terrible beyond normal!

He spent the entire night tangled up and couldn’t sleep well. His body was unconsciously “raising the flag” all night long.

By early morning, Xu Nuo finally loosened her grip and flipped away to the other side of the bed.

Lu Chen got a moment’s respite — but before he could even get comfortable, a sudden kick from Xu Nuo sent him tumbling off the bed.

“Quick! Catch him! The human trafficker…”

Standing barefoot on the floor, Lu Chen looked at the woman sprawling across the bed, furrowing then relaxing his brows.

He silently added a new item to his mental list of Xu Nuo’s traits: talks in her sleep… and kicks people!

The eastern sky was already lightening, and it was time to set off. Lu Chen decided not to sleep anymore and started dressing.

Just as he picked up his tank top, the woman on the bed suddenly sat up with a start, rubbing her messy long hair.

He was momentarily stunned.

Xu Nuo had been dreaming wildly all night. Now awake, she suddenly remembered she had a surgery to perform that morning. She shot upright.

After rubbing her eyes to fully wake, she realized her thoughts in the dream had been chaotic — this was not the 21st century, but the late 1970s.

And the handsome, bare-chested man before her was her real husband.

The man looked at her, his gaze carrying an indescribable feeling.

“Having a dream?” Lu Chen asked first.

Xu Nuo nodded. “Yeah, maybe I was too tired. I dreamed all night.”

She glanced at the alarm clock on the bedside table. “It’s just past six. You’re up early. Are we getting ready to leave?”

“Yeah, we have to go. It’s a long journey—about a day’s travel,” Lu Chen said, then turned to dress.

From Xu Nuo’s angle, she had a full view of his well-shaped body: broad shoulders and narrow waist, his tanned skin healthy and alluring, muscles well-defined but not overly exaggerated—showing the power of constant training.

Below his narrow waist were his military pants, the black belt cinched tight. Though the pants were loose, she could still see the firm shape of his hips.

Xu Nuo swallowed hard, wanting to see more.
