Chapter 122: You’re Jealous (First Update)
“Of course I do, even in my dreams I do!”
“Then jump down and pave the way for us.” Ye Wenxin pointed to a structure that resembled a palace in the distance, which seemed to be their intended destination.
Ye Wenxin had tried sword flight before, but for some reason, flying swords were not applicable in this blasted place, otherwise, Liu Yansheng would not be pathetically chopping down snakes from up a tree.
“That’s, not a very good idea… My cultivation is the lowest among us three,” Zhao Teddy immediately hesitated, watching each venomous snake on the ground hissing at him, he could not help thinking that once he went down, he would be more or less unlucky.
“Don’t forget about your undying body. If becoming a human furnace didn’t kill you, why should you be afraid of some wee snakes? If I’m right, the one controlling the snakes must be a bewitching woman. As long as you show some novel protagonist-like performance, you’ll definitely grasp the Three Palaces and Six Courts1.”
Ye Wenxin continued to spin lies, completely moving up the clichéd plotline she had read about before. Zhao Teddy still had a little hesitation at first, but as soon as he heard ‘woman’, his eyes lit up, and he could not wait to rush into the distance to throw himself into the great beauty’s arms.
Liu Yansheng rolled her eyes several times as she listened to them, but she did not pierce Ye Wenxin’s prevarications and pretended to say very seriously, “That’s right, Young Master Zhao, considering the situation, we can’t fly with swords and can only rely on your undying body.”
Liu Yansheng’s words were so charming and gentle that they stirred Zhao Teddy’s heart. Ye Wenxin felt somewhat speechless. If she had known that feminine charm was so effective, she would not have needed to reveal her identity as ‘Ye Liangchen’. Just by transforming into a beautiful woman, she could easily play this lascivious fellow around in circles.
In any case, Liu Yansheng helped her out a little. Ye Wenxin gave her a subtle nod in gratitude, and Liu Yansheng fluttered her lashes at her. She was already a fatally enchanting Demon, yet she still enjoyed teasing people. Ye Wenxin was even more speechless and did not bother looking at her.
Zhao Teddy was still making his mental preparations, thinking about how he should jump off the tree, and how to run.
“Young Master Zhao, I can’t hold on for much longer,” urged Liu Yansheng, her clothes being melted by the venom spat out by the snakes. Instead of making her look deplorable, it added a distinctive flavor.
Zhao Teddy’s gaze wandered, involuntarily swallowing a glob of spit before saying, “Wait until I figure out how to go down…”
He had yet to finish his sentence when Ye Wenxin lost patience and delivered a kick to his butt. Zhao Teddy fell, crushing thirty to forty snakes. Driven by his desire for survival, Zhao Teddy shot up, rolling and crawling his way as he started running.
“Brother Zhao, you’re going the wrong way!” Seeing Zhao Teddy panicking, Ye Wenxin hurried to warn from atop the tree.
Zhao Teddy was stunned for a moment, then immediately turned around. However, he saw that the snakes had already surrounded him, so he had no choice but to turn and jump onto a tree, quickly darting back and forth among the branches.
The snakes continued to slither after Zhao Teddy, completely ignoring Ye Wenxin and Liu Yansheng.
Seeing this, Liu Yansheng lightly jumped over to Ye Wenxin’s side, asking Ye Wenxin doubtfully, “How did you know those snakes’ target was him?”
Ye Wenxin replied with a smile, “I don’t.”
Liu Yansheng was baffled. She glared at Ye Wenxin, “Then why the hell did you make him draw the snakes away? Even if he actually has some sort of undying body, he’s still a mere mortal.”
“Why, you feel sorry for him?” Ye Wenxin disapproved. As a longtime villain, she naturally knew the significance of the lead characters’ existence in the world.
If Zhao Teddy died under this situation, now that would truly be out of the ordinary.
However, Ye Wenxin felt that the snakes’ actions were indeed suspicious, observing them going after Zhao Teddy with great momentum, it was as if they were too forgiving of others.
While Ye Wenxin was contemplating this matter, Liu Yansheng leaned over, naturally hooking her arm around Ye Wenxin’s neck.
“Why, are you jealous that I care about him?”
Saying this, an odd color flowed into Liu Yansheng’s pupils. Ye Wenxin pushed Liu Yansheng’s head away, uttering with dislike, “Will you die if you don’t use Charm?”
Liu Yansheng took exception to that, looking at Zhao Teddy who was frantically sprinting in the distance, she continued, “If I don’t exert a little effort to make you remember me, I might become like Xi Mengxiu, who vanished yet you don’t even frown.”
It had only been a few days, but Liu Yansheng found that Ye Wenxin was getting increasingly harder to read.
She seemed like a good person, but just as you get to know her, you realize that Ye Wenxin was, in fact, the most mercurial and unrighteous person in the world.
Ye Wenxin seemed to be reminded of something, her pupils contracted slightly, and her tone softened a bit as she continued, “Don’t worry, I’ve seen her face. She can live for at least a few thousand years.”
“Oh, I didn’t expect Miss Ye to not only know spirit talisman arts but also read faces. How many secrets have you hidden that I don’t know about?” Liu Yansheng became even more interested in everything Ye Wenxin was hiding. Whenever she thought Ye Wenxin had reached her limit, the girl always managed to do something unexpected.
“Do you want to know?” Ye Wenxin narrowed her eyes slightly, with a hint of warning in her tone. Liu Yansheng was smart and brave, but her skills in dealing with men were useless against Ye Wenxin.
Ignoring Ye Wenxin’s warning, Liu Yansheng nodded gently, eager to know what else Ye Wenxin could say. Then she saw Ye Wenxin’s lips moving, speaking even more cheekily.
“I guess you’ll only find out when you go underground to meet the King of Hell.”
Liu Yansheng’s body stiffened, and suddenly she did not dare to get too close to Ye Wenxin. Ye Wenxin adjusted her clothes, glanced at Zhao Teddy, who had already fled far away, and then displayed her Lightness Skill (qinggong), chasing after him.
She could easily navigate through the trees, even with two burdens. But Ye Wenxin believed that the opportunity in Shura Hall must be related to Zhao Teddy, which was why she used him as bait to attract the group of snakes.
“Wait for me!” Liu Yansheng chased after her closely from behind, but no matter how she chased, Ye Wenxin’s speed only increased, soon leaving her far behind.
“You really don’t know how to look after ladies. Hmph, I won’t play with you anymore. Do whatever you want.” Liu Yansheng was truly annoyed by Ye Wenxin’s attitude. If it were not for Shura Hall’s Hall Master instructing her to not hinder Ye Wenxin and even help her if she wanted to do something, Liu Yansheng would not have appeared in this damp and disgusting place.
As she spoke, Ye Wenxin had already disappeared into the distance. Liu Yansheng looked around, and finding no one in sight, she released her tail and ears, sitting on the tree to rest.
Unbeknownst to Liu Yansheng, a large red python was silently approaching her from behind. Danger loomed, but Liu Yansheng was unaware of what lay ahead for her……
Meanwhile, Ye Wenxin had lost track of Zhao Teddy.
“I knew it would be like this. It’s really hard to snatch the male lead’s opportunities.” Ye Wenxin was somewhat angry. If it were not for Liu Yansheng delaying her for a while, she would not have missed some details.
But when she turned around to complain to Liu Yansheng, she found herself alone. In this tropical jungle, Ye Wenxin was completely isolated.
Recalling Liu Yansheng’s words just now, Ye Wenxin’s worry lasted only a second before she dismissed it. This was the Martial World, both Liu Yansheng and Xi Mengxuan were just passing acquaintances. She would not treat them as well as she did Ling Jue.
With that thought, Ye Wenxin calmed down a bit and looked around to see if she could find any clues. She continued forward and noticed strange tracks on the ground as if a large creature had crawled past.
The tracks were large, leaving behind some soot, seemingly from a demonic beast with fire attributes. If ordinary snakes could grow this big, they would have cultivated for at least a thousand years, or even transformed into humanoid form, showing a slight potential of ascending to immortality.
However, if it was such a demonic beast, it should be as famous as Azure Wings Sect’s Hei Tong. So why did Shura Hall reinforce the seals on the backwoods to prevent the appearance of this demonic beast?
Could it be that there was truly some opportunity worth being guarded by a demonic beast for thousands of years in this backwoods?
Countless ideas flashed through Ye Wenxin’s mind, but ultimately she dismissed them all, leaving only the possibility she was currently considering.
Thinking about how she had intended to steal Zhao Teddy’s opportunity, yet unexpectedly underestimated the inevitability of fate, Ye Wenxin sighed. She continued along the branches in front of her, suddenly hearing the distant sound of flowing water. Looking ahead, there seemed to be a waterfall.
As she approached, she was startled by the waterfall’s appearance.
Ordinary waterfalls were usually crystal clear, but in front of Ye Wenxin, the water in this waterfall was indeed flowing, but its color resembled blood more than water.
As she got closer, she could see thousands of snake corpses floating on the surface of the water, appearing extremely terrifying, like an altar used by demon cultivators to gain greater power and cultivation.
Exceedingly sinister, even Ye Wenxin, a fleeing Demon Lord, could sense the danger.
Seeing this, she took out a piece of parchment from her bag of holding and folded it into the shape of a paper crane, then infused it with a breath of Qi. The paper crane began to fly slowly towards the front. Before it reached the blood waterfall, it started to self-combust, quickly reduced to ashes, leaving no trace of its existence.
Ye Wenxin did not want to meddle in affairs that did not concern her, intending to take a detour and move on with her investigation. But suddenly, she noticed a small figure not far away.
Dressed in black and with a ghostly figure, Ye Wenxin still recognized the person at a glance. It was Zhao Teddy, whom Ye Wenxin had lost track of. Delighted, Ye Wenxin used her Divine Sense to scan the surroundings, followed the path Zhao Teddy had taken earlier, and quickly caught up to him.
