Chapter 123: You Don’t Understand the Villain’s Refinement (Second Update)
Zhao Teddy was not aware of Ye Wenxin’s presence yet, he walked into a cave and was immeasurably complacent upon seeing the gold and silver treasures within.
“Luckily, I shook off Ye Liangchen just now. Yours Truly knew you had bad intentions and wanted to filch my opportunity! Wait until I make it big, Yours Truly would have your woman…” Zhao Teddy swore while talking, completely oblivious that as he was scheming, Ye Wenxin had condemned his ancestors a hundred and eight times.
Ye Wenxin listened with shock, assuming she had been found out, but hearing the latter half of Zhao Teddy’s speech, she could not hold back her laughter. Even if they were both Earthlings, not everyone was a good person after all.
Very few were willing to become bad guys like Ye Wenxin, but those born to be bad like Zhao Teddy were certainly uncommon.
There were too many temptations in the alternate world, one could easily stray from the path while walking.
Ye Wenxin did not have the slightest sympathy, she concealed all her thoughts and watched Zhao Teddy continue onwards skillfully, crossing over mechanisms and avoiding hidden weapons.
Zhao Teddy hid it well, if Ye Wenxin had not followed him, she would not have known that Zhao Teddy was this impressive at tomb raiding. Similar to Ye Wenxin covering up her cultivation and some of her tricks, Zhao Teddy also covered up some of his abilities.
“Sigh, if I hadn’t dug up that grave out of greed in the beginning, I wouldn’t have ended up like this,” Zhao Teddy sighed ruefully, making Ye Wenxin realize that he might have been something like a grave robber back on Earth.
Even Ye Wenxin might not have been able to clearly figure out all the mechanisms, while Zhao Teddy knew how to proceed after just a few glances.
Another moment passed and Zhao Teddy had entered the main hall.
A hydra sculpture forged from gold stood above the main hall.
“You think you’re Orochi?” Zhao Teddy looked up at the hydra in front of him, recalling a certain serpent from a game1. Ye Wenxin found it familiar too but remained cautious.
This room seemed absolutely deserted, yet there was a vague aura of danger. Especially that hydra, she kept feeling it was alive.
Although Ye Wenxin was tentatively number one in the world, this hydra did not appear to belong to the mortal world.
It was just a legend, but it was rumored that the Azure Wings Sect’s founder had successfully passed Tribulation, ascended to immortality, and entered the Immortal Realm.
Ye Wenxin had always harbored skepticism towards this legend, just like the so-called ancient inheritance manual, that kind of power was far beyond the range of what humans could achieve. Maybe this Shura Hall opportunity had some link to this so-called Immortal Realm.
Ye Wenxin patiently waited for Zhao Teddy to trigger the opportunity, but after jumping up and down, he still could not find anything besides a large amount of gold and silver treasures. Ye Wenxin did not prevent him, she knew Zhao Teddy had dull talent, and patiently waited for Zhao Teddy to have an epiphany.
Two hours, four hours, calculating the time, it was already light outside, if Liu Yansheng had been caught, she would have already been eaten until only a fox skeleton remained. Ye Wenxin remembered that she was still considered a member of Shura Hall for the time being, if she returned too late, it would inevitably arouse Head Senior Sister Qian Bingxue’s suspicion.
Even Third Senior Sister Liu Yansheng’s death would be blamed on her.
She mulled it over and ultimately decided to prioritize the opportunity.
This was a Shura Hall opportunity, perhaps it could guide her in controlling the Iceborn Constitution. Weighing the pros and cons, Ye Wenxin sat back down……
Six hours had passed in the blink of an eye, Zhao Teddy had not slept either, he was rummaging around and even started shouting familiar chants like ‘Open Sesame’, but there was no reaction from the main hall whatsoever. In the end, Zhao Teddy became utterly discomfited and kicked the hydra sculpture furiously. Unexpectedly, the hall shook, and the hydra’s eyes opened, then its maws opened wide, revealing the chests they held inside.
Each hydra’s mouth held a chest, and each chest was simple and unadorned, seeming to hide some treasure. Zhao Teddy was on cloud nine, he climbed up right away and cautiously took a chest. Opening it, there were bottles and jars of pills inside.
As soon as the medicine bottle was opened, the rich aroma of the medicine made one’s mouth water. If Ye Wenxin guessed correctly, these bottles of medicine, even the lowest-grade ones, were at least seventh-grade pills or higher, definitely valuable items.
Overjoyed, Zhao Teddy then jumped up to remove the second chest.
Inside the chest were some solitary books, but because they were related to the nature of Shura Hall, they were probably just popular novels. They did not hold much attraction for Ye Wenxin.
But these were things of great significance to Zhao Teddy, he continued to remove the third chest, and while he was not looking, Ye Wenxin had opened the two chests on the ground, secretly storing their contents in her storage ring.
The storage ring was highly precious, with the ability to store items in temporal stasis, and it could be bound to its owner with a drop of blood. Its security level was extremely high; once locked inside, it was difficult for outsiders to break the seal and retrieve the contents.
For the next hour, Zhao Teddy kept moving, while Ye Wenxin kept emptying the chests.
The ninth chest contained several magic items and weapons. Zhao Teddy glanced at them and picked them up without hesitation, then swept all the other chests on the ground into his bag of holding.
Although Ye Wenxin’s actions were quite obvious, Zhao Teddy had let his guard down so low that he did not even suspect someone might take advantage of the time he spent climbing to switch items. He did not notice anything amiss.
“Today is really a big harvest, but there should be other things too.” Zhao Teddy continued to look at the hydra in front of him. However, no matter how he kicked it this time, the sculpture showed no other reaction.
Instead, it was Ye Wenxin who noticed something even stranger at this moment. When the first chest was removed earlier, the eyes of the first head seemed to light up for a beat. It made Ye Wenxin feel that these chests were not prizes left for future generations.
Including the gold and silver treasures outside, they seemed more like offerings.
With this thought in mind, Ye Wenxin’s vigilance to the hydra increased. However, Zhao Teddy, still lost in thought, began searching thoroughly again. The first hydra head’s eyes lit up.
The hydra head began to show consciousness, flicking out its tongue and looking at Zhao Teddy. However, it was clever and did not immediately attack, instead leading Zhao Teddy to unlock the other seals.
Gradually, one head, then two, then all nine heads of the hydra lit up. Finally realizing that something was wrong, Zhao Teddy turned around and saw the hydra staring at him. He wet himself in fear.
A foul smell permeated the main hall. The hydra seemed to possess some intelligence; seeing Zhao Teddy’s terror, contempt was evident in its eyes.
“You useless fool, go bring some humans here,” one of the hydra heads hissed.
Zhao Teddy’s legs went weak, and he could only nod in response to the hydra’s command.
“Yes, I’ll go call for people right now.”
As Zhao Teddy tried to crawl away, he found himself unable to move after taking just one step. Looking down, he saw a green snake coiled around his waist.
About three meters long, it had the face of a beautiful woman but the body of a snake, appearing both beautiful and terrifying.
“What… what does this mean, Lord Serpent?”
“What if you run away? Of course, I have to send a snake to watch you,” the hydra replied, its red eyes inspiring fear. Zhao Teddy dared not defy and could only slink away, quickly gone from sight.
Ye Wenxin did not leave. She felt that something was amiss with the situation.
If everything before her was Zhao Teddy’s opportunity, why did he end up being a lackey? Could it be that he needed to fulfill the hydra’s desire for human flesh before he could obtain the opportunity?
But if that were the case, could Zhao Teddy still be considered a lead character? Or perhaps, like herself, Zhao Teddy was just a villain standing in the wrong faction?
As Ye Wenxin thought about this, the hydra hovered nearby, chatting with each other. They seemed like a single entity, yet each had its own personality and habits.
It was worth noting that they did mention something about guarding the inheritance, but it seemed that they held a grudge against Shura Hall’s ancestor and did not intend to let anyone take it away.
“That useless fool still hasn’t come back.”
“Could he have run away?”
“Impossible, I sent Xiaoqing (lit. Little Green) to follow him…”
“Let me see… this useless fool seems to have some ability. He actually brought a group of people.”
“Hahaha, great! I haven’t had human flesh in a long time. It’s so boring in this accursed place!”
Ye Wenxin was quite surprised by this outcome. But after a moment’s thought, Zhao Teddy was a selfish person who only cared about his own interests. Perhaps he was planning to escape but ended up encountering Head Senior Sister Qian Bingxue, who brought disciples to the backwoods’ forbidden area to look for them.
Zhao Teddy was no match for Qian Bingxue at all. If Ye Wenxin’s guess was correct, Zhao Teddy would surely blame Liu Yansheng and Xi Mengxuan’s disappearance on her, and then lead them here.
In this way, as long as the two sides fought, regardless of the outcome, Zhao Teddy would come out unscathed. But looking at the hydra in front of her, even if Shura Hall’s Hall Master came, she would not be able to subdue it, let alone Qian Bingxue and her disciples.
Ye Wenxin sighed. She could retreat now, regardless of the chaos caused by Zhao Teddy. But thinking that she was at least a member of Shura Hall, and recalling Liu Yansheng’s words prior, she felt a twinge of guilt.
Reality gave Ye Wenxin no time for regrets. Zhao Teddy appeared with Qian Bingxue and the others. Zhao Teddy was already beaten up, his nose bruised and his face swollen, but he still clenched his fists tightly, saying with great indignation, “It was Ye Liangchen, that bastard, who ordered this hydra to kill Liu Yansheng and Xi Mengxuan!”
