Chapter 131: Meeting the Parents This Soon?
The atmosphere sank into dead silence. Ye Wenxin sat down on Ling Jue’s lap, continuing, “Young Master, I’m hungry.”
“Waiter, give us your inn’s signature dishes.”
Ling Jue urged the inn’s waiter, her hands holding Ye Wenxin’s waist, not avoiding other people’s gazes at all. The two appeared so intimate that nothing could come between them, and the faces of the two female cultivators watching turned green with envy.
They wanted to teach Ye Wenxin a little lesson, but just as they thought to get up, they felt their bodies going weak. They could only stare impatiently at the pair, completely clueless when they had been poisoned.
“Dear guests, here are the dishes you ordered.” The waiter confusedly glanced at the two female cultivators a few times without any care. He placed the dishes, and left very quickly.
The aroma wafted. Ye Wenxin was a bit hungry after losing four drops of blood essence, so she naturally helped herself to the food.
“Eat slower. No one is going to steal it from you.” Ling Jue stroked her hand along Ye Wenxin’s back, feeling as if Ye Wenxin had lost a lot of weight in their few days apart.
Ye Wenxin hummed in reply, paying no mind to the hand’s movements, her eyes fixed on the spread before her, which she rapidly devoured. She ate extremely fast, but gracefully. For a while, the others were unsure whether they envied Ye Wenxin or Ling Jue.
Upon another look at the two female cultvators, they had not spoken since earlier, and the anticipated great confrontation did not occur either, so those that had wanted to spectate a commotion lost interest.
Unbeknownst to the others, those female cultivators had been drugged with Weakness Powder (Ruangu San). As the world-renowned Peerless Gentleman, Ling Jue was not only an incredible Alchemist; she was also quite the medicine expert. Not even a few hours later, the female cultivators had completely lost their freedom of movement.
There were gourmet food laid out before them and a handsome man and beauty sitting nearby, yet the two female cultivators could only stare without any room for resistance.
Some time later, the food were almost finished. Noticing Ye Wenxin had stopped eating, Ling Jue wiped Ye Wenxin’s mouth, asking softly, “Full?”
Ye Wenxin sipped her tea, replying with a smile, “Yes.”
“Let’s return to the room then,” Ling Jue continued to say.
Ye Wenxin gave an adorable nod, and then Ling Jue led her upstairs by the hand. The pair acted naturally. As Ling Jue and Ye Wenxin’s earlier interaction came to mind, the others realized that they had been misled.
“It turns out this young master was waiting for that girl.”
“Didn’t look like much of a stunning beauty…”
Everyone sighed deeply, not knowing how Ling Jue became enamored with Ye Wenxin. For a while, they felt it was a pity. Their laments arose one after another, and the inn’s liquor business suddenly improved.
Before Ye Wenxin entered the room, she saw those distracted ladies down below and could not help teasing Ling Jue, “I didn’t just ruin your luck with ladies, did I?”
Ling Jue did not reply directly. She watched Ye Wenxin walk into the room and naturally locked the door and shut the windows, checking the surroundings thoroughly before undoing the Yin-Yang Transformation.
Her features were as delicately beautiful as ever, and her crisp voice carried some helplessness. “The way I see it, that was a disaster with the ladies.”
“I guess you’re right. Since Big Sister Ling is a woman, how can you be happy being eagerly sought after by other women?” Recalling those women’s hungry looks terrified Ye Wenxin too, she instinctively shrank back and then felt warmth on her back.
There was an accompanying familiar herbal scent, Ye Wenxin did not struggle against it. She just found it a little funny. At this very moment, Ling Jue, who had lifted the Yin-Yang Transformation, was actually a bit shorter than Ye Wenxin.
“Wenxin has grown up so fast. It’s only been a year, and you’re already this tall.” Ling Jue was also quite emotional. She nuzzled Ye Wenxin’s neck, and fortunately, there were no extra smells on Ye Wenxin.
She relaxed slightly but then felt Ye Wenxin turning around to hug her instead.
“Big Sister Ling, I didn’t think you’d get lonely so easily,” Ye Wenxin teased with a smile. Ling Jue gave no answer, but the rosy color blooming across that snow-white skin betrayed her mood.
Seeing Ye Wenxin make fun of her, Ling Jue feigned anger, disgruntledly inquiring about Ye Wenxin’s situation these past few days.
“You know this, yet you left for so many days. How did it go? Did they trouble you? They didn’t teach you any nonsense?” As the topic opened up, Ling Jue could not help but start worrying again.
She had lived in anxiety these three days, so concerned about Ye Wenxin that she could not eat or sleep properly, and due to the torment of the Yin-Yang Transformation before, she appeared much more fragile than the average woman.
She was beautiful yet delicate, evoking an illusion of pity.
Ye Wenxin had to change her posture, loosening her hold a bit before resuming to tell the story of what happened during her stay at Shura Hall.
“Of course not. I’m an Advanced Alchemist, they just tried to win me over, but the gains regarding the Iceborn Constitution are only minimal. I’ll have to research it more carefully when we get back.” Recalling the thick stack of research materials Hall Master Bai Chi gave her, Ye Wenxin felt the days ahead would become very busy.
Thankfully, the Immortal Sect Grand Tournament was not her goal. When she returned, she could wholeheartedly focus on researching those contents.
“It’s fine as long as you’re back safe and sound.” Looking at Ye Wenxin’s indifference, Ling Jue was mostly convinced and finally sighed in relief.
“Don’t worry so much about me all the time, Big Sister Ling. I’m almost fourteen.” Ye Wenxin was at a loss, but her heart felt even warmer. Each time she saw Ling Jue, all her unhappiness would disappear, leaving only Ling Jue’s tenderness.
She did not know whether it was due to her gradual recovery from the Yin-Yang Transformation’s side effects, but recently, Ling Jue had shown an even more seductive, womanly manner, making Ye Wenxin a little more infatuated, to the point that she was reluctant to let go of Ling Jue.
“You will always be a child in my eyes,” Ling Jue criticized with a smile, helping Ye Wenxin tidy her loose strands. The two were very close and moved naturally, as if they had not noticed the current ambiguity between them.
Ye Wenxin laughed harder. “Fourteen years old is already very big. You don’t know how much adult stuff I’ve witnessed in Shura Hall.”
“They actually dared to corrupt you!” Ling Jue’s expression hardened, immeasurably indignant.
“No, they treated me quite well… I just saw those things by accident. Shura Hall is famous for dual cultivation after all. I’d see these scenes wherever I go.” Left without a choice, Ye Wenxin explained calmly and honestly. Indeed, wherever she went, there would be a live broadcast, and she did not have to worry about not having any entertainment at all.
“That’s… Wenxin, you are not allowed to watch that kind of thing anymore.” But this time, Ling Jue, who had always been docile and obedient with her, put on a stern face, seeming very angered by Ye Wenxin’s indifferent attitude.
Ye Wenxin was gloomy at first, yet considering Ling Jue’s upbringing, she felt it was inevitable. If Ling Jue’s family was not so strict, how could Ling Jue be so elegant and calm in every gesture?
Only under nurturing eyes, did Ling Jue come to be.
“Don’t be angry, Big Sister Ling. I won’t watch anymore.” Ye Wenxin promised Ling Jue out of obligation and naturally glossed over the other matters concerning Shura Hall.
After determining Ye Wenxin truly had not been troubled by anyone in Shura Hall, Ling Jue’s attitude finally eased a little. She came out of Ye Wenxin’s embrace and took out a few newly bought clothes from her bag of holding, wanting Ye Wenxin to change into them.
“Big Sister Ling, there’s really no need. The clothes I’m wearing now are quite good!” Ye Wenxin was confounded. Despite her refusal, Ling Jue still forced her to change.
Ling Jue’s gaze remained gentle as always, with a hint of emotion that Ye Wenxin could not read for now. She was uncertain of what it represented, but that gaze sometimes scared her.
However, when she wanted to explore the true face of that emotion, Ling Jue went back to being the tender young lady, caring for her in every possible way.
As night approached, the two chatted about many things, including their next travel arrangements.
There was only half a month left until the Immortal Sect Grand Tournament, and they had to return to the Azure Wings Sect at least one week in advance to make preparations. Ye Wenxin, eager to research the Iceborn Constitution, naturally did not want to linger in the outside world, lest she cause any more incidents.
After hearing Ye Wenxin’s thoughts, Ling Jue looked a bit conflicted, yet she still used a consulting tone to say to Ye Wenxin, “Wenxin, can’t you accompany me for a few days?”
Ye Wenxin felt more mystified, but she answered, “I could, but where do you want to go?”
Ling Jue was silent for a while, seeming to be making up her mind, and then she slowly blurted out her honest thoughts, “I want to bring you to see my mother.”
Shocked, Ye Wenxin could not hold back from making a weird expression until Ling Jue explained the reason.
“Why, is it a bother?” Ling Jue cautiously asked Ye Wenxin. It seemed she was still a little uneasy.
Ye Wenxin shook her head and hurried to clarify, “No, just a bit nervous. After all, I’m still a girl. If I accompany your male self home, I’m afraid people will gossip when they see us.”
Ling Jue smiled. “What harm is there? We don’t have to worry about rumors if we’re upright. Why, is Little Sister Wenxin afraid rumors of us would affect your love life?” With a flicker in her eyes, she cast a resentful gaze that sent shivers down Ye Wenxin’s spine.
Needless to say, Ye Wenxin was not worried about her reputation being ruined, and seeing Ling Jue did not care either, she had to put a bold face on, “Then, should I prepare something for your mother?”
Ling Jue regained her earlier gentle smile. She stroked Ye Wenxin’s head, saying with a very gratified tone, “It’s the thought that counts. There are not many formalities… Don’t make such a stiff face. Relax. I think my mother will surely like you.”
Ling Jue consoled Ye Wenxin, but that smile hid more things unreadable to Ye Wenxin, so she could only nod and reluctantly agree.
One day, two days……
In the time that followed, the two of them sat on the flying magic item and hurried on, but for some reason, Ye Wenxin felt that this route was very familiar. Upon closer inspection, they found themselves in the forest where they had met.
“Didn’t you say we’re going to see your mother? How come we’re back in this forest again?” Ye Wenxin had vivid memories of this forest, where they had spent a month, but she did not understand why they were here again.
“My mother… is buried here.” Ling Jue’s voice lowered, her gaze turning towards the nameless grave in the distance. Ye Wenxin was stunned, as if she just remembered that Ling Jue had indeed mentioned this before, but she had not paid much attention at the time. She had not expected that Ling Jue had come into the forest not to gather herbs but to pay respects to her own mother.
