Chapter 132: The Peerless Gentleman’s Confession
“Then, because of me showing up, you didn’t get to pay respects to your mother?” Ye Wenxin connected the dots, her heart growing heavy with guilt.
“Mm, since I was always with you, I thought I’d come again if I had the chance. I didn’t think I would be a year late,” Ling Jue responded with a smile, understating her answer, but in fact, she lied.
She had already visited her mother back then, it was just that this time, she wanted to bring Ye Wenxin to see her mother before leaving. Harboring some apologies in her heart, Ling Jue’s tone became much gentler.
“I’m sorry. If I hadn’t appeared back then…” Ye Wenxin apologized, but it was exactly because of that time’s tailing that she got acquainted with Ling Jue.
Now that she thought about it, it seemed that today happened to be the one-year anniversary of their acquaintance.
No wonder Ling Jue insisted on coming today; it turned out that there was this meaning behind it all. Ye Wenxin was inwardly apprehensive, but she felt even more sorry towards Ling Jue.
This one year, she had been too busy studying and making progress, and she had neglected Ling Jue instead.
“Big Sister Ling, is there something you want me to do?” However, Ye Wenxin also remembered that she had not prepared a gift, let alone make Ling Jue happy.
“Why are you saying this all of a sudden?”
“Because I suddenly remembered, today marks our one-year anniversary since we met.”
“Silly girl, having you accompany me to see my mother already makes me so happy.” Ling Jue was floored, seeming to have just realized this matter too. She gently caressed Ye Wenxin’s head, looking towards that nameless grave in the distance, pursing her lips as if she had something on her mind.
Ye Wenxin stayed quiet and did not disturb her. She also did not know why Ling Jue would look at her mother from so far away. A few minutes later, Ling Jue narrowed her eyes, lowered her head, and said to Ye Wenxin, “Wait here a moment, I’ll be right back.”
Ye Wenxin obediently nodded. Although she did not know what Ling Jue was going to do, she sat there and waited.
A while later, when Ling Jue stood in front of her again, Ye Wenxin could not take her eyes off her.
She was dressed in white, and coupled with her inherently gentle and beautiful features, it made her look more captivating. Her eyes were soft and even a little shy.
“Do I look good?”
“Good. Truly a sight to behold.” Ye Wenxin was instantly drawn in, and she could not help nodding at once. At this moment, everything else, including Fairy Fengya, was as fleeting as clouds, and Ling Jue, who was slightly dressed up, was the most beautiful woman in the world to Ye Wenxin.
Ling Jue smiled embarrassedly, subconsciously making a masculine gesture, and then realizing that this habit had become natural, she looked at Ye Wenxin somewhat awkwardly.
“Don’t worry, Big Sister Ling. You are you, no matter what you do,” Ye Wenxin sincerely praised, holding back a smile.
Ling Jue finally stopped thinking about her little habits. She walked towards Ye Wenxin and reached out her pale, jade hand.
“What are you doing?”
Ye Wenxin was a little puzzled. The path here was flat, and there were no ferocious beasts either, but now Ling Jue wanted to hold hands with her, leaving her very confused.
“I’m taking you to meet my mother,” Ling Jue explained, her smile softening further, making Ye Wenxin feel a bit embarrassed.
“Why are you making this seem like I’m meeting my father and mother-in-law?”
“Well, what if I want you to marry me, Wenxin?” Ling Jue was half-joking and half-serious as she held Ye Wenxin’s hand. At this moment, she was also nervous, worried that everything she was doing would disgust Ye Wenxin.
“That’s too soon. We haven’t even entered courtship yet.” Ye Wenxin was shocked, then immediately refuted, but after saying this, she kept feeling she just said something wrong.
Her first reaction was not to refuse Ling Jue but to think that they had known each other for too short a time, and thus it was not enough to get married.
“Hehehe, Little Sister Wenxin, you’re honestly too cute. I can’t help but want to marry you.” Ling Jue laughed heartily, a rare sight, but Ye Wenxin’s response made her happy.
Even though it was a polite refusal, it was enough to satisfy Ling Jue.
“Cough, don’t joke like that. We’re in front of your mother.” Ye Wenxin, rarely teased like this, blushed deeply. Despite being the Demon Lord, she had little experience with romance in both lifetimes, let alone meeting the parents.
Even if the person in front of her had passed away, Ye Wenxin still felt she should respect the deceased. Furthermore, this person was Ling Jue’s mother.
“Alright, let’s talk about it later.” Ling Jue stopped teasing Ye Wenxin, suppressing the smile on her face. But her gentleness towards Ye Wenxin could not be concealed.
She was a woman with gentleness deep in her bones. Ye Wenxin could almost imagine that Ling Jue’s mother must have been just as magnificent. Ling Jue took Ye Wenxin’s hand, leading her over. The two of them kneeled and lightly bowed to the grave.
There were no words on the gravestone, deliberately concealing the identity of its owner. Ling Jue began to talk to the grave, and Ye Wenxin listened quietly as she chatted about the interesting things that had happened over the years.
Sometimes smiling, sometimes sad, and sometimes angry, but when Ling Jue started talking about Ye Wenxin, she smiled so tenderly.
To be honest, those compliments made Ye Wenxin very embarrassed. She did not want to continue listening, but Ling Jue gave her no chance to leave, enumerating Ye Wenxin’s merits one by one.
“Mother, meeting Wenxin is the happiest thing in my life. I believe you would also like her,” Ling Jue said genuinely, her words effortlessly touching one’s heart.
Ye Wenxin’s face turned red as she listened, silently apologizing to Ling Jue’s mother. She was not pretending to be young and deceiving Ling Jue; she just wanted freedom and had never expected she would meet this girl, Ling Jue.
Each harboring their own thoughts, one recounting recent events, the other silently refuting.
A gentle breeze blew, carrying a hint of warmth. Ye Wenxin waited quietly, listening to Ling Jue recount those untold stories, feeling the strength transmitted from beneath her frail shoulders.
Ling Jue’s beauty evoked one’s protective instinct, making them want to embrace her tightly and protect her. For Ling Jue, Ye Wenxin felt both pity and tender affection, and perhaps, beyond that, there was an unknown emotion.
Ye Wenxin watched, lost in thought, then noticed Ling Jue’s face growing redder and redder until it reached her ears.
“Wenxin, why do you keep staring at me?” Ling Jue felt flustered under Ye Wenxin’s gaze. She wanted to ignore it, but she also cared about what Ye Wenxin was looking at.
“Oh, I just wanted to admire Big Sister Ling a little more. Big Sister Ling like this is truly rare,” Ye Wenxin replied with a smile. She also remembered that after the Immortal Sect Grand Tournament, Ling Jue would leave the Azure Wings Sect and return to Medicine King Valley.
By then, their encounters would become few and far between.
Everyone had their own Martial World. Ye Wenxin could not accompany Ling Jue to Medicine King Valley, and Ling Jue was a person of great importance who could not afford to have Ye Wenxin by her side.
It was destined that the two would soon part ways. Thinking of this, Ye Wenxin could not help but steal a few more glances.
“Can you watch me later?”
“Last time you said you’d let me touch you, but nothing happened.”
Ye Wenxin shook her head in refusal. She remembered Ling Jue’s plea when she had been in a weakened state, and hearing this now, it felt like Ling Jue was trying to brush her off again.
Ling Jue’s face grew even redder, and she could not help but glare at Ye Wenxin. “I knew you learned bad things from the people of Shura Hall.”
“Where did you get that? This agreement was made before we went to Shura Hall. Big Sister Ling, you’re the Peerless Gentleman. How can you go back on your word?” Ye Wenxin seized Ling Jue’s weak resistance and pressed for victory. Ling Jue’s glare intensified.
But even with such a fierce glare, Ling Jue’s face remained incomparably beautiful, bearing some gorgeousness. It even gave Ye Wenxin the illusion that Ling Jue was shy.
Perhaps because she was not used to being teased, Ling Jue took out a folding fan from her bag of holding and lightly tapped Ye Wenxin with it. She did not dare to tap too hard, but she also feared that tapping lightly would not have any effect.
Ye Wenxin just chuckled and revealed a bit of her true nature beneath her lovable facade. “Big Sister Ling, we’re in front of your mother now. How can you go back on your word?”
She even seized Ling Jue’s weak spot, forcing her to agree.
“Fine. Can we talk about this later and not make me lose face in front of my mother?” Ling Jue felt more and more frustrated, but she could not bring herself to scold or hit Ye Wenxin. Instead, she opened her mouth to plead, wearing a pitiful look that made Ye Wenxin even more tempted to bully her.
However, Ye Wenxin resisted the urge, and since the ritual was almost over, she ran to the side to pick some herbs, giving Ling Jue some space to converse with her mother.
“Wenxin, don’t wander too far. There are still many demonic beasts around here.” Ling Jue, appreciating the kindness, could not help but remind Ye Wenxin.
Ye Wenxin was about to respond when she suddenly realized that she had inadvertently revealed her ability to hear their conversation. She quickly ran even farther away. She was not interested in eavesdropping on the mother-daughter conversation, but she could not help but wonder what Ling Jue would say to her mother.
However, she seemed to have closed off her own opportunity now, so she had to sit quietly and wait for Ling Jue to finish talking with her mother……
Meanwhile, Ling Jue smiled at Ye Wenxin’s antics and took out a soundproofing talisman from her bag of holding, sticking it on the ground.
It mattered not if Ye Wenxin overheard the previous conversation, but Ling Jue wanted to have a private conversation with her mother now.
“Mother, did you see Little Sister Wenxin? I… I like her, not just as a sister. I really want to marry her.
“I know my feelings are disgraceful, going against everything you taught me back then, but I can’t control my feelings. So, I want to give it a try.” Ling Jue’s eyes were firm. She never thought she would one day fall in love with another woman.
This kind of love scared her. She wanted to escape, to forget, but the more she tried, the more Ye Wenxin appeared in her heart.
Ling Jue was in deep. She had truly fallen for Ye Wenxin.
