Chapter 143: It Seems Like an Old Friend is Coming
Setting aside her usual blame on Fairy Fengya for stealing disciples, Ye Wenxin had not actually imparted the Flower Burial Cultivation Method to anyone and had long attracted her disciples’ dissatisfaction.
The disciples, unaware of Flower Burial’s sinister nature, assumed that Ye Wenxin did not trust them. Nobody understood Ye Wenxin’s earnest thoughts, and these disciples had never sincerely revered her.
If you really wanted to nitpick it, it was all self-inflicted by Ye Wenxin, but it still upset her. Despite being the dignified best in the world, her disciples were snatched by Fairy Fengya every day.
“Big Sister, we swiped a few more cultivation books recently. Please have a look.”
“Yes, they’re for escaping.”
Seeing Ye Wenxin basking in the sun, the little brothers could bear it no longer and pulled out their hidden treasures one by one. They wanted Ye Wenxin to master the miraculous skills of evasion.
Looking at this group of little brothers brimming with warmth, Ye Wenxin feigned interest and had a gander. The little brothers noisily flaunted their respective cultivation techniques, exhibiting their goods unreservedly.
Bystanders observed the relationship between Ye Wenxin and the little brothers with envy, but due to Fatty’s specifications, not everyone could approach Ye Wenxin, so they could only stare hopelessly from a distance.
Needless to say, Ye Wenxin, as the implicated party, was oblivious to this matter. She much preferred her current comfortable life, but the lack of acupuncture targets was a great pity.
But with the Immortal Sect Grand Tournament almost here, Ye Wenxin would have more chances.
“Big Sister, this Immortal Sect Grand Tournament is a chance for our Cozy Gang (Wenxin Bang) to advertise. We’ll definitely do our best.”
“Hold it right there. Cozy Gang? When did you guys get a name?” The Azure Wings Sect turned a blind eye to gang or clique formations, but hearing this weird name slightly startled Ye Wenxin.
“It’s a homonym for Big Sister’s name, Wenxin. Cozy, like home.”
“Ah, I see. It’s truly a good name.” Ye Wenxin’s mouth twitched slightly. She would rather have names like Dragon Gang or Oxen Crew than Cozy Gang, but since the name had already come out, Ye Wenxin could not be bothered to stop them from calling it that.
“Big Sister has approved. Let’s call our gang the Cozy Gang.” When Ye Wenxin heard Fatty’s delighted voice the next second, she knew she had just made a mistake. Even though she could have come up with a nice name, she still ended up digging a pit for herself. But Ye Wenxin’s original intention was not to establish a new power base, so she continued to sit there sunbathing, occasionally eating fruits the little brothers brought over.
Out of nowhere, Fatty asked another question: “Big Sister, will you be entering?”
Ye Wenxin grinned, “Of course. It’s mandatory.”
Fatty got a little closer and asked cryptically, “Then, does Big Sister want to win or lose?”
Ye Wenxin became more confused. “Is there a difference?”
“Naturally. If Big Sister wants to win, we’ll beat your opponents half to death in advance. In that case, you can easily advance to the next round,” responded Fatty proudly, unable to restrain the complacency in his eyes.
The other guys nodded in concert, seeming to feel Fatty had made an excellent suggestion.
“No. I’ll just go with the flow. You guys prepare well these days; don’t let our, ahem, Cozy Gang lose face.” It was really hard for Ye Wenxin to say such an embarrassing name, so she coughed for a while before giving the order.
With this said, she again took out pills from her stash.
“These pills are for you guys to eat. Cultivate well these few days. I look forward to your performance.”
The little brothers unsealed their bottles and peeked, and saw that the pills inside were all at least fifth-grade or higher. Their hands shook from shock, and they held the bottles tighter, lest the pills grow wings and take flight.
Third-grade pills were already the highest reward for the outer disciples, and even the inner disciples seldom glimpsed fifth-grade pills. Everyone looked at the dozen or so pills inside the bottle and no longer knew how to put their feelings into words.
They looked at Ye Wenxin with eyes full of gratitude.
“You’re all men; don’t be so sickening. Go practice; I want to take a nap!” A thought occurred to Ye Wenxin, and suddenly, feeling embarrassed, she dismissed the surrounding little brothers.
The little brothers ran away with grins on their faces, leaving Ye Wenxin alone.
Ye Wenxin could not restrain the quirk on her lips. She was unsure if it was because of the bright sunshine today or the warmth filling her heart, but she found herself thinking that living like this would not be so bad after all.
She lay on the grass and started to shut her eyes, pretending to sleep.
There was intense practice going on all around, yet Ye Wenxin was very at ease.
Here, there was no murder threat to be worried about.
She gradually fell into the land of dreams. She was unaware of how long she had slept, and when consciousness crept back in, she felt someone approaching her.
As there was no killing intent, Ye Wenxin did not bother moving.
The person had very light footsteps and seemed afraid of waking her. Ye Wenxin patiently waited for them to get close, while that person also patiently and quietly drew near.
One step after another, her breathing rhythm was very calm, yet her heartbeat seemed a little fast, and there was even some nervousness. Her cultivation was a bit unsubstantial, which seemed to be the consequence of forcing a breakthrough. This kind of weak cultivation would give this cultivator much difficulty in the later stages.
Ye Wenxin’s occupational hazard struck again, but through these few characteristics, she already figured out who this visitor was.
The book she had been using to block sunlight was carefully lifted from her face. Ye Wenxin slowly opened her eyes and then saw a rather familiar visage.
Dressed in inner disciple attire with bright eyes and teeth, she was as beautiful as spring flowers; upon seeing Ye Wenxin, those pretty eyes revealed various emotions.
Excitement, nervousness, happiness…
“Junior Sister Wenxin, I trust you’ve been in good health since we last parted.” She smiled with glistening eyes.
“Senior Sister Hanyan.”
This person was Huang Hanyan, whom she had not seen for about half a year, Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng’s last runaway disciple. Previously, Long Qing’er’s entering strict closed-door training had prompted Huang Hanyan to begin her closed-door training as well.
Ye Wenxin had not expected that Huang Hanyan would actively seek her out before she went to find Huang Hanyan.
Ye Wenxin remained lying down, while Huang Hanyan just squatted and looked at her. For a while, they exchanged no words.
“Ah, I remember. You’re the senior sister who helped us out last year.” Fatty’s voice relieved the others’ doubts, and they finally understood why this very unfamiliar yet pretty senior sister had come to find Ye Wenxin.
Huang Hanyan simply gave a polite smile, turned to Ye Wenxin again, and extended her slender, lily-white hand.
The improvement in her cultivation gave Huang Hanyan, who was already an outstanding beauty, a bit more spiritual aura, and her eyes were also a lot more determined. Ye Wenxin continued to observe her carefully and found that she had slightly dressed up today. She even adorned the accessory Ye Wenxin had given her last year.
Huang Hanyan came for Ye Wenxin, to let Ye Wenxin see her progress as soon as possible.
“Senior Sister Hanyan, you’re already in the Foundation Establishment stage!” Ye Wenxin feigned surprise as she checked her out, but in truth, she was not at all surprised with Huang Hanyan’s result.
“Yes. It’s thanks to Little Sister Wenxin that I can progress this fast.” Huang Hanyan smiled faintly, with indescribable gratitude in her eyes.
She looked at Ye Wenxin and found that, although her cultivation had not changed much, her height had increased somewhat rapidly.
“But Little Sister Wenxin, what did you eat to make you taller than me?” Considering Ye Wenxin’s foundation was fourteen years old, yet she stood at 1.7 meters tall, Huang Hanyan felt it was hard to believe.
“Um, it’s because I eat and sleep well, and this is the result. Ahem, Senior Sister Hanyan, let’s go chat over there.” Ye Wenxin felt quite a headache. She regretted messing around with her height for no reason. Now she wanted to shrink herself a bit, but it was already too obvious, so she had to continue with her current height.
Seeing Ye Wenxin seem a bit embarrassed, Huang Hanyan nodded with a smile and followed Ye Wenxin to a nearby pavilion. People around them kept glancing, but the girls were too far away for their private conversation to be audible.
Huang Hanyan also ignored the other people, watched Ye Wenxin, and continued to express her surprise. “You’ve grown so fast. If I hadn’t asked several people, I wouldn’t have dared to confirm the person was you.”
“Senior Sister too, your cultivation has risen so quickly.”
“Because I was forced to. Don’t follow my example.” Huang Hanyan smiled bitterly. She also seemed to realize her current situation.
She had broken through before she could solidify her base. This kind of premature breakthrough would make Huang Hanyan’s future path increasingly difficult.
Perhaps the old Ye Wenxin would not have been able to change this situation. But now, Ye Wenxin had the Soul Suppressing Eighteen Needles and her Alchemy skills. With some nurturing, she could help Huang Hanyan improve.
However, would Huang Hanyan accept her help just like that?
After all, Huang Hanyan had been fooled before, and if she went through something like that again, it might harm her self-esteem.
“Senior Sister, I’ve seen your fiancé lately.” Ye Wenxin had to change to another method and make Huang Hanyan realize her dangerous situation from a different perspective.
Huang Hanyan’s face immediately darkened. She grabbed Ye Wenxin’s hand and very worriedly said, “Wen Yiming didn’t bother you, did he?”
Ye Wenxin, confounded, continued to say, “How could he have bothered me? I’m now the outer sect disciples’ Big Sister. But Wen Yiming already broke through to third-stage Foundation Establishment. Although you’ve also entered the Foundation Establishment stage, regardless, you aren’t his opponent.”
This was indeed the truth. Wen Yiming had acceptable talent and was willing to work hard, so he was able to achieve this result.
Huang Hanyan had acceptable talent as well, but she had a shorter learning time and thus had not progressed as quickly. But for the sake of breaking through, Huang Hanyan had been anxious for quick results, and this behavior had harmed her instead.
After all, Huang Hanyan’s agreement with her family was that as long as she broke through to the Foundation Establishment stage within a year, she did not need to marry Wen Yiming, but Ye Wenxin could not help but feel that things were not so simple.
“That’s fine too. As long as I’ve reached the Foundation Establishment stage, they won’t dare force me to get married anymore.” Seeing Ye Wenxin was alright, Huang Hanyan sighed with relief, but the distress between her brows had not dissipated.
