Chapter 158: I Will Bear the World for You

“I know someone, with a top-grade Iceborn Constitution!” Su Mei went all in. She knew this might earn Ye Wenxin’s resentment, but it was her last chance. She had to seize it, succeed, seek revenge, and change the world.

Long Qingyue’s delicate face finally showed a smile, as if greatly relieved. Xiao Zhang, however, had a sense of foreboding, almost wanting to stop Su Mei from uttering that person’s name.

“This person is called Ye Wenxin, an Azure Wings Sect outer disciple.”

“Good… good…” Long Qingyue smiled wider, with killing intent coldly concealed in her eyes.

She was not laughing at Su Mei’s overestimation of herself, or at Su Mei selling out those around her. Long Qingyue was laughing because of what Su Mei had said.

She was targeting someone she did not even know, all because of greed, and that person was none other than the unthinkable Demon Lord, Gu Qingcheng.

“Hehe… interesting, really interesting; to think there’s still someone with a top-grade Iceborn Constitution.” Long Qingyue laughed, while Xiao Zhang’s expression turned grim.

She wished she could rush to Ye Wenxin right now and tell her to flee for her life. If Long Qingyue set her sights on the girl, Ye Wenxin would end up in a terrible state.

Xiao Zhang had seen too many of Long Qingyue’s methods, and she did not want Ye Wenxin to experience Long Qingyue’s cruelty. Yet now, her worst fears were coming true.

Su Mei’s words ultimately reignited Long Qingyue’s interest in Ye Wenxin.

“Eldest Princess, this person has a top-grade Iceborn Constitution and considerable Alchemy skills, but an eccentric temperament. My referral is necessary. If Your Highness is willing to help me, I will do my very best to make Ye Wenxin loyal to you.” Su Mei saw an opportunity. She remembered Ye Wenxin’s foolish appearance, and could not help but make a plan.

She was confident that despite Ye Wenxin’s excellence, she was only a fourteen-year-old child, and with a little temptation, she could be controlled.

Long Qingyue sneered inwardly as she listened. Initially, she had thought of getting rid of this scourge for Ye Wenxin’s sake, but now it seemed more worthwhile to let Ye Wenxin handle it herself. She also wanted to know if the former big devil was still the same as before.

“What does Your Highness think?” Seeing Long Qingyue still standing there, Su Mei realized that her words had finally had some effect. She cautiously probed for a response.

“Very well, I’ll give you a few days; if you fail, you know what end awaits you,” Long Qingyue gave her final verdict. Su Mei beamed with joy, immediately kowtowing to Long Qingyue on the ground before quickly leaving.

The room fell silent once again, so silent, that even the sound of a pin dropping could be heard.

“Xiao Zhang, what do you think?” Long Qingyue suddenly asked Xiao Zhang beside her, her tone casual, as if she had not been concerned about the Iceborn Constitution matter at all.

Xiao Zhang, who had been anxious all along, remembered her friendship with Ye Wenxin and abruptly kneeled before Long Qingyue.

“Your Highness, I beg you to spare Ye Wenxin.”

“Oh, I won’t do anything to her. Where is this coming from?” Long Qingyue looked at Xiao Zhang with interest.

Xiao Zhang, aged thirty, had no interest in romance or the like, and most of the time, Long Qingyue felt that people in this world lacked romance, while their desire for strength and cultivation was stronger.

But Xiao Zhang was unexpectedly moved by someone, and was pleading for the first time, which truly piqued Long Qingyue’s interest.

What intrigued her was how Ye Wenxin had managed to captivate her subordinate, and how this subordinate, through a series of coincidences, had become connected with her best friend.

As Long Qingyue thought about it, the corners of her lips lifted, as if she had finally found something interesting in the world. But Xiao Zhang was unaware of Long Qingyue’s mindset.

Cold sweat soaked her back, and upon Long Qingyue’s inquiry, she dared not even breathe freely as she was kneeling on the ground, trying to figure out how to respond.

“Your Highness, Ye Wenxin’s older brother has shown me kindness, and Ye Wenxin herself is my benefactor, it would be best if Your Highness took her in as a subordinate. However, Ye Wenxin is indeed somewhat eccentric. She may not be influenced by Su Mei,” Xiao Zhang finally organized her thoughts and expressed her opinion on the matter.

She had already exhausted all her courage. If this did not work, she would have to flee the Azure Wings Sect with Ye Wenxin, even if it meant bearing the fate of a criminal.

Yet, remembering Long Qingyue’s methods, Xiao Zhang realized again how insignificant her own existence was. Even if she managed to escape with Ye Wenxin, where could they go?

Xiao Zhang’s heart was in turmoil, unaware that Long Qingyue’s smile was actually quite relaxed and content. She felt joy that someone genuinely cared for Ye Wenxin, yet at the same time, there was a twinge of discomfort.

Was it because Ye Wenxin was about to leave the bachelorette ranks, or was it her envy towards Ye Wenxin? At least there was someone in this world, besides Long Qingyue, willing to risk their life for Ye Wenxin.

What did Long Qingyue have?

She had supreme power and wealth, formidable cultivation, yet there was not a single sincere admirer who saw her true self. After pondering over it, Long Qingyue unexpectedly felt a hint of jealousy, which made her even more intimidating to the trembling Xiao Zhang.

“But you must also understand, this Iceborn Constitution is highly precious to the dynasty. I’ve been stuck at my current level of cultivation for a long time, perhaps this person can help me break through,” Long Qingyue continued with a smile, watching Xiao Zhang’s body tremble uncontrollably. Xiao Zhang clenched her fists, as if struggling fiercely within.

For a person of loyalty and righteousness, facing such a dilemma was the most painful. Long Qingyue was adept at psychological warfare, effortlessly manipulating Xiao Zhang, but she did not expect Xiao Zhang’s emotions to be so strong.

She had already surpassed her fear, which left Long Qingyue quite impressed.

“I’m tired. I need to rest now. You may leave,” said Long Qingyue. After everything was done, there was a slight smile on her lips, as she quickly pushed her wheelchair away.

Xiao Zhang remained rooted in place. She looked at Long Qingyue’s back figure and solemnly kowtowed three times.

This was a promise between ruler and subject, a pledge, and, naturally, a farewell.

After finishing her kowtow, she turned and left, quickly disappearing into the moonlight.

Long Qingyue waved her hand, summoning a person in black.

“Keep an eye on Xiao Zhang, report her situation at any time. If she dares to run, inform me immediately. No killing allowed.” Long Qingyue’s words were concise but clear.

The person in black readily agreed and quickly vanished.

The room finally returned to its rightful quietness. The black cat in Long Qingyue’s arms had opened its blood-red eyes at some point, curiously staring at its owner.

“Hungry? Don’t worry, there will be a big meal soon.” Long Qingyue stroked her black spirit cat, and comforted it with a smile.

The black cat meowed and soon obediently closed its eyes again, letting everything return to true peace.

……

Night had not yet ended, as a shadow stealthily slipped into the dormitory where Ye Wenxin resided.

Seeing Xiao Zhang, who had violently awakened her from her dreams, and hearing the story from Xiao Zhang’s lips, Ye Wenxin just lazily yawned.

“So you came here, in the middle of the night, just to get me to run away?”

Poor Baili Mu had been knocked out again; Ye Wenxin could just imagine her complaining during the day about being beaten badly.

“Yes. Pack up, Wenxin; I’m taking you away.” Xiao Zhang nodded solemnly. In just a short while, she had familiarized herself with the surrounding routes. Security was tight tonight, but Xiao Zhang had certainty she could break through the thick layers of defense to escape.

“Xiao Zhang, take some deep breaths first.” Ye Wenxin felt a slight headache looking at Xiao Zhang’s state. After some consideration, she decided to let Xiao Zhang calm down first.

“Why do I need to take deep breaths? I’m perfectly calm!” Xiao Zhang’s body trembled with agitation. She knew that Ye Wenxin did not understand Long Qingyue, but she knew all too well about Long Qingyue’s punishment for traitors.

“Even if we run now, we’ll probably get caught before we even leave the Azure Wings Sect.” Ye Wenxin gently patted Xiao Zhang’s back, trying to calm her down.

If the situation was as Xiao Zhang described, then Ye Wenxin had already been found out; Ye Wenxin did not say that this was just to see her performance.

Long Qingyue purposely set it up so that the panicked Xiao Zhang would lead her away and then catch them red-handed.

As she thought about the evil smirk Long Qingyue would likely display, Ye Wenxin lost all motivation to run away.

“Even if it’s a trap, it’s the only way. Her Highness has been stuck in her cultivation for a long time. She’s very interested in your constitution. If you don’t leave, you may have to, with Her Highness…” Xiao Zhang could not continue. What even she had yet to do with Ye Wenxin, would happen with Long Qingyue under such cruel circumstances.

She bit her lip, afraid that her fear would make her lose her composure even more.

This was the first time Xiao Zhang had developed affection for someone, and that someone was still a child. She should not have to face such cruel realities.

“Xiao Zhang, listen to me; calm down first.” Ye Wenxin could only try to comfort her as much as possible. She understood that Long Qingyue’s instilled fear had deeply rooted itself in Xiao Zhang’s mind.

Ye Wenxin had the urge to knock Xiao Zhang unconscious to calm her down, but after some thought, she reached out and hugged her, allowing her to feel a bit of security.

“I’m… I’m very calm.” Yet Xiao Zhang could not calm down, even in Ye Wenxin’s arms. However, she felt Ye Wenxin touch her face and then slowly press her lips against hers.

It was a real kiss, different from the previous promise kiss. Ye Wenxin kissed Xiao Zhang sincerely and reverently, as if responding to Xiao Zhang’s emotions.

“Now, have you settled down?” Ye Wenxin asked again, feeling a bit embarrassed, but she thought giving Xiao Zhang the strongest sense of security was better than violence.
