Chapter 190: Is this Really the Female Lead’s Route? (First Update)
“Ye Meijing” wondered if it was some sort of illusion, she noticed a faint golden light even on Gu Xiangsi’s body, as if because of Gu Aotian’s incident, even Gu Xiangsi’s fate had been rewritten.
“He’s over there; my brother tricked me into believing he was leaving the Azure Wings Sect and said he had something important to tell me.” Gu Xiangsi pointed to a distant area in the backwoods, as she recounted how she had been deceived into going there.
“I thought that with my current cultivation level and with Master supporting me from behind, even if Su Mei dared to act recklessly, she wouldn’t dare lay a hand on me within the sect’s territory. So, I agreed to go.” Gu Xiangsi recounted the story, and “Ye Meijing” listened attentively, still feeling that Gu Xiangsi had been too careless.
A mad dog, if driven mad, would resort to any means; although Gu Xiangsi currently had strength comparable to Su Mei’s, her combat experience was still too limited. Moreover, hidden threats were hard to guard against, and it was uncertain if Su Mei would resort to some despicable means.
Fortunately, Gu Xiangsi was safe. If something had happened, “Ye Meijing” really wouldn’t know whether to feel sad or pity.
As Gu Xiangsi’s words paused briefly, “Ye Meijing” furrowed her brows slightly, expressing her displeasure.
“You should have called for me.”
Gu Xiangsi gripped “Ye Meijing’s” arm tighter, saying somewhat resentfully, “Sis, have you forgotten already? You just rejected me, and I’m still upset. If it weren’t for the seriousness of the matter, I wouldn’t have come to you.”
It seemed that, fueled by emotions, Gu Xiangsi successfully shifted away from her sadness.
“But you could’ve sought your master’s help.”
“Ye Meijing” chuckled, feeling that Gu Xiangsi was truly angry because of her rejection. If not, why would she turn to Ye Wenxin instead of the person she should trust and rely on the most?
“He’s still my brother. Even in death, his dignity must be maintained. If my master finds out, she might beat his corpse to vent her anger.” Gu Xiangsi clung tighter, her buxom body exuding a captivating allure that could easily stir certain thoughts in people.
“Ye Meijing” felt like her arm was tormented between heaven and hell; she wondered if it was her imagination, she felt that Gu Xiangsi had become much more well-developed compared to six months ago.
The soft touch and friction Gu Xiangsi’s body provided would never tempt “Ye Meijing” to stray from her thoughts. However, the cotton-like, elastic sensation invoked a mesmerizing feeling, reminiscent of a mother’s gentle embrace.
“Ye Meijing” still hesitated to pull her hand away, letting Gu Xiangsi lead her along the path, trying to avoid attracting more attention.
While Gu Aotian’s death would be one thing, “Ye Meijing” feared that if he was not completely dead, some system artifact might come out of nowhere and revive him while he still had one breath left in him.
Then, the resurrected Gu Aotian might come back with a vengeance, potentially losing his qualifications as the male lead and even competing with “Ye Meijing” for her livelihood.
“Oh, by the way, they said you have some kind of artifact on you. Is that true?” Now that the atmosphere had quieted down again, “Ye Meijing” asked about something she was very curious about.
Gu Xiangsi’s steps faltered slightly, pausing for a few seconds before continuing onward, making “Ye Meijing” suspect that Gu Aotian’s outrageous claims might hold some truth.
After all, Gu Xiangsi’s progress from the Qi Refining stage to fifth-stage Foundation Establishment was indeed astonishing.
Firstly, Gu Xiangsi possessed rather mediocre aptitude. Putting aside the fact that Jin Xiaoqin was an elder of the Hall of Teaching, no matter how much she doted on Gu Xiangsi, she would unlikely pour all her resources into the girl.
Secondly, cultivation required extensive support from various techniques and pills; although “Ye Meijing” had provided Gu Xiangsi with some pills early on, they had minimal contact since then.
While Su Mei was also at fifth-stage Foundation Establishment, it was something she barely achieved through looting and plundering with Gu Aotian and others.
So, what method did Gu Xiangsi use to reach her current level? If “Ye Meijing” guessed right, it wouldn’t be long before Gu Xiangsi had another breakthrough.
“No,” Gu Xiangsi finally replied, but “Ye Meijing” still saw through the lie in her eyes. However, she didn’t expose it. In a world where male and female leads were as common as cabbages sold by the catty (half a kilo), everyone had their secrets.
“That’s good; otherwise, who knows what might happen.”
“Ye Meijing” nodded, then noticed Gu Xiangsi’s grip on her arm loosening a bit. The girl’s face showed even greater unease as she tentatively asked, “Sis, if I really had such a divine artifact on me, what would you do?”
The nervous way she was asking made “Ye Meijing” feel that Gu Xiangsi was not someone adept at hiding her emotions.
“I’d advise you to throw it away.”
“Huh?” Gu Xiangsi was surprised by this unexpected answer, but then “Ye Meijing” continued with a straight face, “That way, I can pick it up.”
“Hehehe…” Gu Xiangsi couldn’t help but laugh. Even though “Ye Meijing” was blatantly revealing her own greed, Gu Xiangsi found the words surprisingly pleasant to hear.
Her gaze instinctively shifted to her bracelet. “Ye Meijing” smiled wryly.
“My dear Xiangsi, if you want to protect something, you can’t keep staring at it,” advised “Ye Meijing” kindly.
Gu Xiangsi was too pure, and “Ye Meijing” worried that someday, Gu Xiangsi would be deceived because of it.
“Huh? Why should I do that?” asked Gu Xiangsi, puzzled. She didn’t understand why “Ye Meijing” was saying something completely different from everyone else.
“The more you treasure something, the less you should let others see how much you value it. Look, didn’t your brother misunderstand that your bracelet held some secret? He was probably suspicious because you kept looking at it.”
“Ye Meijing” gave a little hint, and realization dawned on Gu Xiangsi’s face.
“Is that so? But, I don’t think my brother was that clever; it was Su Mei who repeatedly tried to use him to get my bracelet.”
Gu Xiangsi’s face showed more displeasure at the mention of Su Mei. “Ye Meijing” chuckled, thinking that Su Mei truly did have the makings of a villain. Unfortunately, in the eyes of a true villain, Su Mei’s actions were merely petty.
They continued walking until they reached the backwoods’ outskirts. From a distance, “Ye Meijing” spotted the headless corpse hanging from a tree.
“Why’s he hung up like that?”
“Ye Meijing” looked up at the body. The head was gone and the neck area was a bloody mess, making it impossible to discern. As for the head itself, “Ye Meijing” searched around but couldn’t find any pieces. It seemed that the Flower Burial seed’s explosion had obliterated it completely.
