Chapter 226: I Advise You not to Refuse the Cup1 (Third Update)

Warning: Graphic descriptions of violence

She could only be considered attractive, but there was nothing striking or memorable about her—nothing resembling the legendary Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng.

However, now Su Mei vaguely felt that Ye Wenxin might have a new identity. She was familiar with Long Qingyue and capable of using Flower Burial.

“Hehehe, have you guessed it…? I quite enjoy seeing how people react when they learn my true identity,” Ye Wenxin smiled brightly, revealing her true appearance.

Peerlessly gorgeous (qingcheng); only this Demon Lord, Gu Qingcheng, could live up to such a title.

Long Qingyue was also exceptionally beautiful, and it was difficult to compare the beauty of the two, as they each had their own merits. Yet, Ye Wenxin always carried a sense of wickedness.

She lifted Su Mei’s chin, forcing her to meet her gaze. “Take a good look. Remember this face, and in your future reincarnations, do be a little more careful.”

Long Qingyue chuckled even more upon hearing this, then saw Ye Wenxin sending a displeased glare her way, feeling that Long Qingyue was hindering her from flaunting.

Long Qingyue tactfully cleared her throat, called for the black cat, then watched with amusement, curious how Ye Wenxin would conclude this scene.

“This is called Flower Burial Method, Third Move, ‘Mirage Flower’,” Ye Wenxin recited the name of the move, then turned to the table to grab a towelette and wiped her hands.

Su Mei initially thought Ye Wenxin was bluffing, but in an instant, she felt her blood roiling, and suddenly, flowers burst out from her blood vessels, one after another, magnificently beautiful, like an otherworldly scene.

“Aaahhh!” Su Mei began to scream frantically, feeling the red flowers greedily absorb the nutrients from her body, leaving her no chance of survival.

The more Su Mei struggled, the more the flowers absorbed, growing larger and more vibrant, filling the room with a fragrant scent.

Long Qingyue savored this beautiful scene, brought to life only when flowers bloomed from the dead. She drank to the struggling Su Mei, as one would when admiring a full moon.

Ye Wenxin sat nearby, but instead of raising a cup, she simply drank straight from the bottle. Both of them were very quiet, as they appreciated Su Mei’s struggle towards death.

“It’s ironic, how even someone like her can bloom so beautifully in death,” Long Qingyue commented.

Ye Wenxin approached Su Mei, plucked a few petals and dropped them into a cup, then handed it to Long Qingyue.

“No matter who we are in life, in death, we’re all the same. Flowers never judge who you were; they only care about how they can be more beautiful.”

Long Qingyue was momentarily startled, not by Ye Wenxin’s words, but by her gesture of offering her a drink. The person before her clearly knew she wasn’t good at drinking, but offered her one anyway.

“Aren’t you afraid something will happen?” Long Qingyue chuckled, as if implying something. Long Qingyue lived too definitively, too insightfully. From a certain perspective, she was akin to Fairy Fengya.

Fairy Fengya had no interest in anything except ascending.

Long Qingyue, on the other hand, lived too definitively. She had no interest in anything, even going as far as creating enemies for herself, and inciting rebellion among them through her subordinates, just to amuse herself.

Yet, despite being so perfect, Long Qingyue was not good at drinking, and this weakness was known only to Ye Wenxin. They understood each other completely, and if they ever became enemies, they would be the most terrifying and deadly enemies to each other.

“What could possibly happen? I’ve already reached Soul Transformation,” Ye Wenxin retorted, rolling her eyes at Long Qingyue.

Even if Long Qingyue truly got drunk and acted recklessly, Ye Wenxin would not hesitate to knock her out with a single palm, then laugh at her mercilessly for years once she woke up.

“Yeah, it’s because you’re at Soul Transformation that I’m worried you won’t even spare me,” Long Qingyue continued jokingly, reaching out to take the wine cup.

Su Mei’s presence had already become secondary; they were enjoying their encounter more.

Ye Wenxin, who just took a drink, almost spurted it out, but managed to hold back in time. An incredulous look crossed her face. “Give me a break. We’ve already seen every part of each other.”

But as she said that, Ye Wenxin found herself unable to stop staring at Long Qingyue. She watched as Long Qingyue lifted the wine cup, as her beautiful lips lightly touched the rim, draining the wine in one gulp.

In just a moment, Long Qingyue’s face flushed slightly. She touched her warm cheeks with slender fingers, then glanced at Ye Wenxin’s triumphant smile with some displeasure. “I’m drunk. Happy now?”

“You just live too definitively. Look at me, I may not know anything, but aren’t I living quite nicely?” Ye Wenxin was even more dumbfounded, but she just regarded it as Long Qingyue relaxing.

When they were together, there was no sense of hierarchy, and they rarely discussed matters concerning this world.

Long Qingyue seemed a bit more intoxicated, adding a touch of seductiveness to her usually nonchalant face.

The black cat, accustomed to the situation between the two, watched as Su Mei finally perished, then leisurely feasted on her flesh, devouring the red flowers mouthful by mouthful.

While they were immersed in romantic reverie, the black cat couldn’t help but feel the loneliness of being a cat.

“If I don’t live definitively, I’ll never know which day I might die.” Long Qingyue expressed a different opinion, her eyes emitting a faint red glow.

The glow was very faint, and Ye Wenxin felt a shiver down her spine, realizing Long Qingyue was now reading her mind. It seemed her words had touched upon the topic that Long Qingyue least wanted to discuss.

“Um, Yue’er2, since we’re so familiar with each other, can you please refrain from reading my mind?” Ye Wenxin tentatively asked, not daring to entertain any chaotic thoughts.

Once Long Qingyue activated her mind-reading ability, probably even Fairy Fengya wouldn’t be able to escape her scrutiny.

“People’s minds are inscrutable. We haven’t seen each other in a year. Who knows what you’ve become?” Long Qingyue smelled the strange fragrance coming off Ye Wenxin’s body, and noticed the faint hickeys on her neck, which made her even more unhappy.

Long Qingyue was unwilling to accept it. She couldn’t shake the feeling that Ye Wenxin had completely abandoned her. She held onto Ye Wenxin’s neck, drew closer, and asked, “Tell me, do you have someone you like?”

As soon as Ye Wenxin heard the change in topic, she immediately thought of the hickeys on her neck. But if she were to explain to Long Qingyue that she had been deceived and ended up laying with Ling Jue, Long Qingyue probably wouldn’t believe her anyway.

But if she were to say she liked someone, it would still be Ling Jue. However, she wasn’t at the point where she would change for Ling Jue.

“No.” Ye Wenxin thought for a moment before giving this precise answer. She also did this to test if there were any hidden thoughts in her mind. If there were, she hoped Long Qingyue would find them.

  1. – This Chinese phrase is often used in the context of urging someone to drink, especially in a social setting like a gathering or banquet. ↩︎

  2. In Chinese, adding -er to the end of someone’s name (usually the last character of their given name) is like an affectionate nickname, similar to adding Xiao (little) in front the name. It’s mostly used in northern regions of China.

Another example of common Chinese nicknames is like Qiao Ni’s Ni Ni, where the character is doubled.
