Chapter 244: Entrusting the Daughter (First Update)
“Sob, Sister Wenxin, what should I do? I don’t want to become an orphan.”
Ye Wenxin finally discovered that Qiao Ni was no little angel, but a little devil wearing a cute mask.
Although she appeared precocious and adorable, deep down, she actually possessed so many evil tricks. The deep affection between mother and daughter seemed genuine, but Qiao Ni was as two-faced as anyone Ye Wenxin knew.
Even now, Qiao Ni was trying to raise favorability with Ye Wenxin, leaving Ye Wenxin at a loss. She could only say, “She’ll be fine. Elder Wu just needs to bring a doctor back to save your mother.”
Ye Wenxin subconsciously patted Qiao Ni’s back to comfort her. This was simply human nature; there was no way she would be insane enough to lay her hands on a little girl.
But for Madam Yu, this scene was too provoking. She couldn’t help but seethe, and anxiously called out to her spoiled daughter, Qiao Ni.
“Qiao Ni… Qiao Ni, come quickly…” Her voice grew weaker, making Ye Wenxin suspect, that Madam Yu’s collapse was entirely caused by anger.
The black smoke grew denser, as if it would engulf Madam Yu entirely. Watching this scene, Ye Wenxin understood that Madam Yu’s time had come.
Yet, she seemed unwilling to die. The red and black energies intertwined, forming a grotesque blood skull.
For this powerful resentment to manifest in such a spectacular form left Ye Wenxin wondering: did it stem from Madam Yu’s strong obsession, or intense love?
For an ordinary and fragile woman, Madam Yu’s aura was simply extraordinary.
“Mother… you will definitely make it through.”
Regardless of what Ye Wenxin thought about her, Qiao Ni was just a twelve-year-old child. Seeing Madam Yu in such a state, she finally let go of Ye Wenxin’s hand and hurriedly ran to her side, tightly grasping her hand.
The others had varied and complex expressions. Ye Wenxin stood aside, watching as Madam Yu’s gaze turned towards her once more.
Her eyes still held a hint of murderous intent, but then, as if recalling something, they softened slightly.
She waved to Ye Wenxin. “Miss Wenxin, please come over here for a moment.” Her breathing grew weaker, as if she could depart at any moment.
Ye Wenxin hesitated to approach. She felt that the situation might lead to something unsettling like being entrusted with a duty. But considering Qiao Ni still had a father, she couldn’t possibly be left to her.
Reluctantly, Ye Wenxin walked up and crouched beside Madam Yu.
“Madam Yu, what is it?”
Madam Yu didn’t speak at first. Instead, she gently grasped Ye Wenxin’s hand. Her touch was as delicate as fine jade, but sadly, her hand was icy cold.
Ye Wenxin instinctively took Madam Yu’s pulse, and as expected, it was weak.
Unlike Madam Yu’s frail state, the black and red skull still exuded a fierce aura. Its hollow eye sockets stared at Ye Wenxin, emanating a sense of deadly intent.
Ye Wenxin couldn’t help but tremble briefly, then felt the grip on her hand tighten slightly.
“Do you… like… Ni Ni?” Madam Yu struggled to ask, as if trying to pass Qiao Ni completely onto Ye Wenxin before her death.
Ye Wenxin sensed something amiss upon hearing this question. Seeing the slightly pleasant surprise on Qiao Ni’s face, she understood that Madam Yu ultimately intended to entrust Qiao Ni to her according to Qiao Ni’s wishes.
“I don’t.” Ye Wenxin couldn’t be morally coerced, just because she was facing someone near death.
In any case, she had long been accustomed to being alone, and if she were to add another person by her side, it definitely would not be Qiao Ni.
This answer stunned Madam Yu, and Qiao Ni beside her couldn’t believe what she heard. Even the senior brothers and sisters in the distance thought Ye Wenxin’s response was too harsh.
Only Huang Hanyan maintained an indifferent expression, seemingly determined to stand by Ye Wenxin’s side regardless of her decision.
“So, you must stay alive, to watch with your own eyes as she grows up and finds someone she loves.”
Ye Wenxin, as if feeling she was too direct, added a gentle blessing towards Madam Yu.
Madam Yu was slightly taken aback. She looked at Qiao Ni, who happened to meet her gaze.
Just as Ye Wenxin thought there was no more for her to do and was about to get up and leave, she felt Madam Yu grabbing her arm, with no sign of restraint, even increasing in strength.
“Madam Yu, you will definitely live a long life, just hold on.” Ye Wenxin sighed helplessly and took out a silver needle, gently pricking a few acupoints to stabilize her pulse.
“Cough, cough, cough…” Madam Yu’s breathing eased a bit. Though still very weak, she had more strength compared to a moment ago.
But the first thing she did was not instruct Qiao Ni on the future. Instead, Madam Yu exerted more force to grasp Ye Wenxin’s hand.
“I can give you Green Isle Villa,” she said, causing everyone present to gasp in shock, not understanding how the situation had suddenly taken such a turn.
Madam Yu, who just planned to entrust her daughter, now wanted to give Green Isle Manor to Ye Wenxin.
Ye Wenxin was also a little dumbfounded. She shook her head and said, “I don’t need it.”
Madam Yu couldn’t count on her own husband, the owner of Green Isle Manor, to treat Qiao Ni well. With her gone, Qiao Ni might even be bullied at Green Isle Manor.
In that case, it would be better for her daughter to follow Ye Wenxin to the Azure Wings Sect, where at least she could have a better environment to grow up in.
“I said, you will survive.” Ye Wenxin tried pulling her hand away, and then noticed the red color where Madam Yu was clutching her.
Beside her, Qiao Ni appeared determined to stick with Ye Wenxin alone, tightly holding onto her arm.
Judging from Madam Yu’s attitude, Ye Wenxin understood how dire the relationship between her and the Green Isle old man was. After all, she would rather entrust her daughter to a scumbag than the father.
“I know my health condition…” Madam Yu’s coughing grew increasingly severe. She couldn’t understand how Ye Wenxin could refuse her request like this.
Green Isle Manor was everything to her, the culmination of thirty years of meticulous care. And she would use everything, to trade for her only daughter’s happiness.
She just hoped that Qiao Ni could grow up happily, that was all. But why would this scumbag refuse her?
“I said, you can survive, but it will come at a cost. However, you already refused me last time, so I don’t intend to intervene.” In the end, Ye Wenxin still withdrew her hand.
Madam Yu’s eyes held a hint of annoyance, as if she also recalled Ye Wenxin’s once outrageous request.
