Release the Female Lead Ch. 267

Chapter 267: I’m Not a Good Person (3rd Update)

Madam Yu was extremely embarrassed, but thinking that Ye Wenxin might be doing this to humiliate her, she made an effort to pretend she didn’t mind at all and stood there boldly.

Ye Wenxin didn’t show any sign of appreciation and focused on her task. She crossed the two pieces of spirit wood to form a standing cross, then had Madam Yu stand on it.

In an instant, Madam Yu, now on the cross, looked like a prisoner. Ye Wenxin used ropes to tie her hands and feet to the frame, and began writing more sutras.

As she wrote, she also chanted the sutras aloud. The air filled with a sizzling sound as black Yin energy was drawn into the spirit wood, battled the sutras, and subsequently got eradicated.

Madam Yu was in great pain, with beads of sweat rolling down her forehead. Ye Wenxin started writing sutras on Madam Yu’s body, performing rites to purify the restless souls and help them transcend.

The spirit wood, originally white, turned pitch black. Ye Wenxin wanted to continue writing, but when she touched the spirit wood, she found the Yin energy devouring her brush.

“Exactly how much Yin energy did you absorb?” Ye Wenxin’s scalp tingled as she witnessed Yin energy that exceeded her imagination. Despite the two pieces of spirit wood absorbing so much, they hadn’t even captured a tenth of it.

Seeing the Yin energy completely consumed the spirit wood, Ye Wenxin quickly untied Madam Yu from the frame and gently placed her on the ground. She then ignited the prepared purification talisman, destroying the spirit wood and brush used earlier.

Madam Yu watched this incredible scene, even seeing with her own eyes the tormented souls twisting and screaming on the spirit wood, causing her to shiver involuntarily.

“Looks like this lord had truly killed quite a number of people,” Ye Wenxin remarked with a hint of self-deprecation.

Her previous callous and murderous actions, had led to vengeful spirits haunting her, resulting in heavy Yin energy. If Liu Churan hadn’t thought of Madam Yu, she might have become a complete wreck by now, far from the happy life she currently enjoyed.

Madam Yu offered no explanation, having expended all her strength. Yet, as she gazed upon the contorted souls on the spirit wood, she couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of remorse.

Perhaps even she hadn’t realized the extent of the terrifying Yin energy within her. If not for her unique physique, she might have perished long ago from the overwhelming darkness.

“Can you still stand?” Ye Wenxin wiped the sweat from her forehead, looking at Madam Yu still seated on the ground. She draped a cloak over her, shielding her from the elements.

Madam Yu made an effort to rise, but soon pursed her lips and shook her head.

“May I touch you?” Ye Wenxin asked again, and then saw Madam Yu’s wary expression.

Ye Wenxin awkwardly explained, “No, what I meant was, can I carry you? Your body is already weak. I’m worried you might catch a chill if you stay here.”

Madam Yu nodded slightly, though she didn’t seem entirely willing. However, given the current situation, she had no other choice.

Ye Wenxin saw her agreement and approached to lift her up carefully, then gently placed her onto the bed and tucked her in.

Madam Yu pulled the quilt tighter around herself, seeming to find some sense of security at last. Ye Wenxin didn’t leave; instead, she sat on the edge of the bed, taking Madam Yu’s pulse with a strange expression on her face.

“Madam Yu, I actually suggested you find a lover for your own good.”

Just as Madam Yu had begun to open up, her heart closed again abruptly at Ye Wenxin’s words. She pointed to the door and demanded with a cold voice, “Get out!”

“No, you have too much Yin energy in your body. If there was someone with abundant Yang energy who could alleviate your illness, you might live ten or more years,” Ye Wenxin hurriedly explained her reasons for suggesting this.

Moreover, from Madam Yu’s conversation with Liu Churan, it was clear that she had a lover. Since she could accept having a lover, Ye Wenxin didn’t understand why Madam Yu reacted so explosively every time this was mentioned.

“No one but the right person can force me,” Madam Yu stubbornly replied, expressing her views on love.

This left Ye Wenxin speechless, but after consideration, she realized something was amiss with Madam Yu’s statement.

Madam Yu wasn’t rejecting the idea of having a lover; rather, she only accepted that particular person. She would rather die than live in compromise just to draw a breath of Yang energy from anyone else.

“You truly are a devoted person, devoted to the point of foolishness,” Ye Wenxin remarked quietly, covering Madam Yu with the blanket and preparing to leave.

“I am not devoted,” Madam Yu replied. “I have simply realized that no one else but he(r) is acceptable to me.”

“Who is he?”

Ye Wenxin couldn’t help but ask another question, feeling a slow unease creeping into her heart, fearing Madam Yu might mention the words ‘Demon Lord’.

On second thought, she had been half-insane and half-retarded at the time. Even if she already had peach blossom luck back then, how could it have led to such intense feelings in someone as bewitching as Madam Yu?

“(S)he is…” Madam Yu seemed about to answer when suddenly a noise came from outside the door.

“Mother, are you asleep?” Qiao Ni’s voice drifted in. Madam Yu’s expression turned to one of alarm, fearing Qiao Ni would misunderstand upon seeing her and Ye Wenxin like this.

However, Ye Wenxin remained calm and composed. She looked at Madam Yu’s discarded clothes on the floor, feeling as though fortune was smiling upon her.

“Madam Yu, how about we make another deal? The next time we meet, I will help you dispel the Yin energy once more. But in return, you must cooperate with me now and make Qiao Ni give up on me.”

What was a crisis for Madam Yu, was an opportunity for Ye Wenxin.

Madam Yu had been right about her. She was no good Samaritan. However, as Madam Yu was her benefactor, she couldn’t afford to be sloppy. She should end Qiao Ni’s infatuation as soon as possible so Madam Yu could be at ease.

“And what would Ni Ni think of me if I did this?” Madam Yu asked in return, and Ye Wenxin was reminded of this matter.

If Madam Yu fought with her daughter, a chasm would form between them.

Ye Wenxin hesitated. She looked around, wondering if she should find somewhere to hide for a bit.

Seeing Ye Wenxin’s troubled look, Madam Yu added, “But you can act like you’re forcing yourself on me. This way, Ni Ni will see your true self and will no longer have any wishful thinking towards you.”

Ye Wenxin considered the result, figured it was feasible, threw off her clothes, and climbed up the bed.

“I’m warning you; don’t do it for real,” Madam Yu cautioned coldly. Yet she saw a much more fearful expression on Ye Wenxin’s face, as if she was afraid of getting too involved with Madam Yu.

“Mother, why aren’t you saying anything?” Outside, Qiao Ni was getting anxious and started banging on the door, worried Madam Yu had fainted in the room.

Ye Wenxin and Madam Yu looked at each other. Madam Yu hastily shouted, “Help…”

She even sounded out of breath. Her skillful acting made Ye Wenxin suspect that Madam Yu often did these immoral things.
