Release the Female Lead Ch. 268

Chapter 268: Let Her Enjoy Today (4th Update)

“Why’re you so skilled at this?”

“What do you care—”

Before Madam Yu could finish her sentence, Qiao Ni slammed the door open. Ye Wenxin pounced on Madam Yu, pretending she was molesting her.

Qiao Ni screamed in surprise. Ye Wenxin was secretly rejoicing, thinking this was finally the end of Qiao Ni’s infatuation.

But then Qiao Ni cried, “You’re both too much; why are you playing without me?”

No matter how mature she was, she was still just a twelve-year-old. Watching the two roll around, Qiao Ni took off her shoes and climbed up.

Madam Yu was frozen in shock, Ye Wenxin even more so. They felt a small body slip between them, giggling.

“I suddenly feel I actually have a father and mother.”

At that moment, a flood of emotions overcame Madam Yu. She couldn’t help but hold Qiao Ni in her arms.

Ye Wenxin, afraid that Madam Yu would catch a cold, covered them with a quilt, while she lay on the side, watching the touching moment between mother and daughter.

Seeing them like this, Ye Wenxin found herself easily moved. She wondered if she had softened after becoming Ye Wenxin or if she harbored subtle affection for these two people.

Now seeing them, mother and daughter embracing each other, it seemed as if everything in the world had become inconsequential. The corner of Ye Wenxin’s mouth lifted slightly.

While Madam Yu was still interacting with Qiao Ni, she looked at Ye Wenxin lingering here and said lightly, “You may leave now.”

“No; if we’re playing, we’re playing together!” Qiao Ni stubbornly pulled Ye Wenxin back and lightly kissed her cheek. Ye Wenxin’s face stiffened into a forced smile, but Madam Yu was brimming with murderous intent again.

“This wasn’t my idea,” Ye Wenxin felt even more awkward. She stood up to leave, but Qiao Ni lifted the quilt and pulled Ye Wenxin in too.

Both Ye Wenxin and Madam Yu felt extremely embarrassed, but Qiao Ni refused to let go of either of them, pulling them both around until she finally fell asleep late into the night.

Madam Yu was exhausted long ago. As Ye Wenxin prepared to leave, Madam Yu whispered softly, “Thank you for today.”

The gratitude carried no hostility, but Ye Wenxin understood that Madam Yu’s thanks did not refer to having her life saved. In the eyes of this woman who only had her daughter, Qiao Ni’s happiness was Madam Yu’s greatest happiness.

“No harm done. Let her enjoy herself today; she’ll probably be in tears tomorrow.” Ye Wenxin thought of her impending departure tomorrow and could already imagine Qiao Ni’s fuming expression.

Madam Yu, smiling faintly, slightly got up, and adjusted the quilt on Qiao Ni’s body, revealing her shoulders. Her hair cascaded down, exuding an extraordinary beauty under the candlelight.

In Ye Wenxin’s mind, a vague memory seemed to emerge, elusive and fleeting. She tried to grasp it but found herself unable to. After a moment’s pause, she bid farewell to Madam Yu and walked out of the room.

The moon hung above the branches outside. Ye Wenxin caught a whiff of the faint fragrance on herself, which she seemed to have inadvertently picked up in the room.

Recalling the interactions with Qiao Ni and Madam Yu just now, Ye Wenxin felt a warmth in her heart.

After walking for a bit, Ye Wenxin saw Old Man Lü Dao. He was still wearing his training clothes, his face ghastly pale. He seemed to notice Ye Wenxin, gave a small nod, and soon went on his way.

Old Man Lü Dao’s walking gait looked a little dainty. Although she had no special hobbies, she still focused and checked. Upon discovering that Old Man Lü Dao had no third leg, Ye Wenxin unwittingly sighed with relief.

A beauty befitted a hero; fortunately, the annoying Old Man Lü Dao ultimately didn’t win over Madam Yu. But on second thought, it seemed it was her own doing from decades ago that led to this outcome.

Feeling pleased, Ye Wenxin initially thought that tonight, they wouldn’t need a soundproofing charm for their conversation, but soon she realized she couldn’t hear anything at all.

Suddenly, Ye Wenxin realized that what Madam Yu and Old Man Lü Dao were discussing was definitely not some romantic affair, but likely a conspiracy involving collusion with the demon sects.

Ye Wenxin, as a minor character, certainly wouldn’t meddle in other people’s affairs.

Madam Yu was destined to cause chaos in the world, Ye Wenxin believed that in less than three years, she would become a figure within the demon sects.

With this thought, Ye Wenxin continued onward and returned to her small residence. Before she even opened the door, she sensed a presence inside, making her nervous. It always seemed that whenever she thought of someone, that person would appear.

Bracing herself, Ye Wenxin pushed open the door and saw a woman in green lying on the bed. She was lounging lazily, eyes closed, with no awareness of her status as the former Saintess of the Wind and Moon Palace. She was incredibly beautiful, naturally exuding a strong aura of allure.

Feigning infatuation again, Ye Wenxin approached. It seemed that Liu Churan had come specifically to find her.

Liu Churan smirked, making Ye Wenxin’s heart jump, fearing that her disguise had been seen through.

However, Liu Churan didn’t seem to notice, merely scoffing coldly at Ye Wenxin’s apparent infatuation.

“You do resemble her a bit.”

“Ah, who is Miss Liu referring to?” Ye Wenxin had to feign ignorance, feeling that living as a minor character with her subpar acting was truly difficult.

“That’s none of your concern. I came to ask if there are any notable figures in the Azure Wings Sect.” Liu Churan sat up, her veil swaying with her movement, giving a glimpse of her stunning beauty. Ye Wenxin pretended to sneak a peek, only to feel Liu Churan unleashing her coercive pressure.

Ye Wenxin didn’t want to kneel, but remembering that her current cultivation level couldn’t resist the pressure, she fell to her knees with a thud. This kneeling filled her with immense shame, but it completely dispelled Liu Churan’s suspicion.

Ye Wenxin pretended to be jolted awake by Liu Churan’s coercive pressure, and quickly said, “If you speak of notable figures in the Azure Wings Sect, it would naturally be Fairy Fengya.”

Liu Churan looked displeased but continued to ask, “What about the younger generation? A girl around twelve or thirteen, plain-looking, with a strange temperament, often speaks incomprehensible words.”

Liu Churan’s inquiry gave Ye Wenxin chills. She had considered that Liu Churan might know about her, but she hadn’t expected her understanding to be so thorough, even down to her behavioral patterns.

“There are indeed a few like that. Oh, my senior sister Gu Xiangsi could be considered a notable person.” Ye Wenxin mentally lit a candle1 for Gu Xiangsi, but she clearly understood that Liu Churan wouldn’t target these people.

Liu Churan’s objective, whether in the past or present, was to find Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng.

“Oh, I’ve investigated this Gu Xiangsi before. She does seem interesting.”

Liu Churan nodded without surprise, appearing to have already grasped the details of the Azure Wings Sect.

Ye Wenxin, feeling the pressure, forced out more names, only to see Liu Churan looking directly at her.
